Album caption and index card: View north across homes partially buried by tephra in the eastern part of Vestmannaeyjar. The lava flow looms in the background. Gases that are moving through the tephra rise from the house on the right. The houses will eventually be exhumed and restored. Heimaey, Iceland volcanic eruption of 1973. Iceland. July 23, 1973. Published on page 8 in U.S. Geological Survey Government Information Product (gip), "Man against volcano: The eruption on Heimaey, Vestmann Islands, Iceland" 1977.

This data collection includes ground-penetrating radar (GPR) data and related observations collected from the NASA Goddard Instrument Field Team (GIFT) Expedition to the Icelandic Highlands in July-August 2019 and August 2021. This dataset includes observations at the Askja Volcano and caldera and Vikrahraun lava flow. GPR data were collected using Geophysical Survey Systems, Inc (GSSI) shielded bistatic antennas at center frequencies of 200 MHz, 400 MHz, and 900 MHz. Common offset surveys were conducted to investigate the subsurface interfaces. The GPR data includes raw data obtained from the instrument (as GSSI .dzt files), line shapefiles of survey locations, and interpreted ice thickness GeoPackage files with...

Album caption and index card: View southeast across homes partially buried by tephra. Vapor-shrouded Eldfell looms in the distance. Pipes which conveyed seawater to the lava flows cross the tephra in the middle ground. Gases rise from the tephra behind the telephone pole. Heimaey, Iceland volcanic eruption of 1973. Iceland. July 23, 1973. Published in U.S. Geological Survey Government Information Product (gip), "Man Against Volcano: The Eruption on Heimaey, Vestmann Islands, Iceland" on page 7, lower photo. 1977.

Album caption and index card: Panoramic view east-southeast across the fishing port of Vestmannaeyjar. The 6,000 year old Helgafell (Holy Mountain) Volcano is to the right, the new Eldfell (Fire Mountain) Volcano is on the right center. Dark, tephra-covered ground is apparent, with lava flows into the town and harbor in the left background. Heimaey, Iceland volcanic eruption of 1973. Iceland. May 5, 1973. The Terrestrial Analogs Data Portal (TADP; https://tadp.astrogeology.usgs.gov/) has been established as a repository and data discovery portal which leverages USGS ScienceBase, a trusted long-term digital repository that provides access to all USGS data services. Creation of the TADP service is in response to a number of NASA-generated reports identifying the need for a permanent planetary analog repository which adheres to standards-based archives. Presented here is the first version of the Planetary Aeolian Analog Database (PAAD) that will be incorporated into the TADP. This dataset is focused on dune field analogs, currently comprising 45 sites from all over the world and includes a set of "core" attributes (that...
