Tidal energy has the technical potential to form part of a low carbon electricity sector, however, its ‘social potential’ is less clear, as few empirical studies of public beliefs and responses have been conducted to date. This research addressed this gap by investigating a tidal energy convertor in Northern Ireland, said to be the first grid-connected device of its kind in the world. Data was collected from 313 residents of two nearby villages using mixed methods, guided by a conceptual framework that avoided ‘NIMBY’ assumptions and instead drew on place theory. Findings indicated strong support for the project, arising from beliefs that the project enhanced local distinctiveness by ‘putting the area on the map...

The Terrestrial Analogs Data Portal (TADP; https://tadp.astrogeology.usgs.gov/) has been established as a repository and data discovery portal which leverages USGS ScienceBase, a trusted long-term digital repository that provides access to all USGS data services. Creation of the TADP service is in response to a number of NASA-generated reports identifying the need for a permanent planetary analog repository which adheres to standards-based archives. Presented here is the first version of the Planetary Aeolian Analog Database (PAAD) that will be incorporated into the TADP. This dataset is focused on dune field analogs, currently comprising 45 sites from all over the world and includes a set of "core" attributes (that...

This data release is a companion to Dundas et al., 2020. Additional description of the methods and rationale for data collection is provided there. The primary data are from several categories of data-logging sensors described in detail below. Sixteen images are also included as part of this data release. These document the sensor locations as described in Dundas et al. (2020).

Album caption and index card: Oblique aerial view north-northwestwards of the island of Heimaey, Vestmann Islands, Iceland, showing the fishing town of Vestmannaeyjar, the east-west-trending harbor in the background, and the extinct volcano Hegafell rising to 741 ft. in the right center of the island. On January 23, 1973, lava began to pour from 0.9 miles north-northeast trending fissure to the east (right) of Helgafell. Eldfell Volcano eventually grew to be similar in height to Helgafel.
