The Jackson moose herd inhabits an area 2,023 mi2 (5,239 km2) north of Jackson, Wyoming. The Jackson moose herd was historically abundant with a peak of 3,000–5,000 animals in the early 1990s. However, the herd underwent a dramatic population crash following the large counts in the early 1990s and continues to decline with an average count of 280 animals between 2016–2020 (Wyoming Game and Fish Department, 2022).
