Roe Herring catch by Gillnet (aggregated for 1989 to 2008) was prepared with data provided by the Conservation Biology Section, Pacific Biological Station (PBS). The dataset has been modified to meet the sensitive nature of the data as per the Access to Information Act20(1)(b,c); which specifies that Fisheries and Oceans Canada will not disclose to a third party confidential information that may prejudice the competitive position of the fisher, in which fishing location has been identified as one of the entities to be protected.

This dataset displays the output of a participatory mapping exercise conducted during and after the BCMCA Renewable Ocean Energy Mapping Workshop held November 17, 2008. It contains the combined areas of interest or promise for tidal energy development along the coast of British Columbia. The data is grid-based, with each 1x1 km cell weighted according to the measure of relative importance to assigned each area mapped by workshop participants.

Results of the project are intended to inform and help advance marine planning initiatives in BC by providing collaborative, peer-reviewed scientific analyses based on the best ecological and socio-economic spatial data at scales relevant to a BC coast-wide analysis.

This project researched the expected variation in avian demographic responses to environmental change across a gradient of species and landscapes from the San Francisco Bay to the Central Valley of California. We used two avian taxa, waterfowl and songbirds, as case studies for the integration of long-term demographic data with climate change variables. For each taxon, we assessed and synthesized several demographic responses to climate change variables (i.e., precipitation and temperature) to explore the relationship between four large-scale climate indices and bird species arrival dates and nest survival. A web-based application provides natural resource managers with project results.

The NOAA Hypoxia Watch project provides near-real-time, web-based maps of dissolved oxygen near the sea floor over the Texas-Louisiana continental shelf during a period that extends from mid-June to mid-July. We extracted marine mammals from version 1.0 of the global polygon data set compiled by UNEP-WCMC from the publication Marine Mammals of the World (Jefferson et al. 1993) (for more information about the UNEP-WCMC source data set, e-mail spatialanalysis@unep-wcmc.org). There were 118 species in the data set (including cetaceans, sirenians, pinnipeds, and other marine carnivores). These included coastal and high seas species, although the latter may only occasionally venture onto continental shelf areas.
