This dataset includes otolith and water chemistry used for determining natal origins of individuals from six species. The dataset contains Sr:Ca and Ba:Ca of water samples for the Mississippi River and tributaries as well as otolith Sr, Ba, Mg values from fishes collected in navigation pools 4, 8, 13, and 26 of the Upper Mississippi River, as well as the Open River Reach of the Middle Mississippi River and the La Grange Pool of the Illinois River. Fishes included Bullhead Minnow, Emerald Shiner, Gizzard Shad, Bluegill, Orangespotted Sunfish, and Yellow Perch. Laser ablation inductively coupled mass spectrometry to quantify natal origins of these prey fish. Upwards of 50-75% of individuals at a given river reach...

Peak-flow frequency analysis is crucial in various water-resources management applications, including floodplain management and critical structure design. Federal guidelines for peak-flow frequency analyses, provided in Bulletin 17C, assume that the statistical properties of the hydrologic processes driving variability in peak flows do not change over time and so the frequency distribution of annual peak flows is stationary. Better understanding of long-term climatic persistence and further consideration of potential climate and land-use changes have caused the assumption of stationarity to be reexamined. This data release contains input data and results of a study investigating hydroclimatic trends in peak streamflow...

Fisheries monitoring data detailing the lengths and or ages of fish caught during state agency fisheries surveys. These data were collected and shared with our team from: Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Data include length and age data for seven sport fish species: black crappie (Pomoxis nigromaculatus), bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus), largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides), northern pike (Esox lucius), smallmouth bass (Micropterus dolomieu), walleye (Sander vitreus),...

Note: this data release is currently being revised and is temporarily unavailable. This data release is a compilation of the locations of airborne geophysical surveys in the United States. The inventory documents public airborne geophysical surveys primarily flown by or contracted by the USGS from 1943 to present. In addition, surveys from the State of Alaska, Department of Natural Resources, Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys (DGGS): Airborne GeophysWeb, the Bureau of Land Management, the Department of Energy and other state agencies have also been included. The surveys have contributed to studies under USGS programs including Water, Geologic Mapping, Minerals, Energy, Environmental Health, Ecosystems,...

This dataset contains data in support of a study by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, to describe water-quality characteristics of the Red River of the North and tributaries prior to construction of the Flood Risk Management Project in the Fargo-Moorhead metropolitan area. This dataset contains bacteria data for ten sites supplied by the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality, pesticide data for five sites supplied by the North Dakota Department of Agriculture, results from quality control samples collected at ten sites by the USGS as well as files necessary to run loads for ten sites and seven constituents published in U.S. Geological Scientific Investigations...

Phosphorus, nitrogen, and suspended-sediment loads, in 24 U.S. tributaries of the Great Lakes, were calculated using U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) monitoring program for the period Oct 2010 through Sept 2020 (USGS water years 2011–2020). Total phosphorus, orthophosphate, particulate phosphorus, total nitrogen, nitrate plus nitrite, ammonium plus ammonia, and suspended-sediment loads and changes in loads were determined by applying a weighted regression approach called WRTDS (Weighted Regression on Time, Discharge, and Season). The load results represent the total mass of nitrogen, phosphorus, and suspended sediment exported downstream at each tributary site....

High-frequency observations of surface water at fine spatial scales are critical to effectively manage aquatic habitat, flood risk and water quality. We developed inundation algorithms for Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 across 12 sites within the conterminous United States (CONUS) covering >536,000 km2 and representing diverse hydrologic and vegetation landscapes. These algorithms were trained on data from 13,412 points spread throughout the 12 sites. Each scene in the 5-year (2017-2021) time series was classified into open water, vegetated water, and non-water at 20 m resolution using variables not only from Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2, but also variables derived from topographic and weather datasets. The Sentinel-1 model...

Data in this dataset were collected as a part of the Student Network for Amphibian Pathogen Surveilance (SNAPs) program throughout the United States by undergraduate students in biology or ecology courses as a part of their curriculum. This data was collected in the field by students and sent to the USGS National Wildlife Health Center (NWHC) for testing of two amphibian fungal pathogens, Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd) and Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans (Bs). The dataset includes both the field records of the individual amphibians tested and the results for individuals for Bd and Bs. This is Product Number 209311 of the U.S. Geological Survey Amphibian Research and Monitoring Initiative (ARMI).

This map layer contains the shallowest principal aquifers of the conterminous United States, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, portrayed as polygons. The map layer was developed as part of the effort to produce the maps published at 1:2,500,000 in the printed series "Ground Water Atlas of the United States". The published maps contain base and cultural features not included in these data. This is a replacement for the July 1998 map layer called Principal Aquifers of the 48 Conterminous United States.

The data comprise observations of 12 species of fish from Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) fish survey data. Surveys were conducted between 1968 & 2022 generally for the purposes of assessing fishery statuses in inland lakes. The species in these data represent only a subset of all species present in DNR surveys, and were selected for our study because of relevance to stakeholders and relative vulnerability to the gears used to survey the populations.

Dataset containing information for white-tailed deer samples from Minnesota. Samples were genotyped for 11 microsatellites markers and sequenced for a fragment of approx. 546 bp belonging to the mitochondrial control region. Marker OvirQ should not be used as it presents alleles inconsistent with reported pattern, with some alleles separated by only 1 base pair and inconsistent between runs. Coordinates representing the centroid of Township-range-section of origin are given as UTM 15N.
