This polygon feature class represents vegetation communities mapped at Fort Bowie National Historic Site to an alliance or association level. Field crews used landscape features as a guide to develop the polygons, such as shape, size, pattern, tone, texture, color, and shadow. Additional data layers were used in aiding the interpretation, such as slope, hydrology, geography, and ground-collected vegetation information. The draft polygons were printed out and taken into the field; Field crews modified boundaires and merged or split delineated polygons based on field observations. All edits were made on paper maqps and transferred into GIS later. The minimum mapping unit was 1/2 hectare. The attributed vegetation...

The geographic information system (GIS) format spatial data set of vegetation for Waterton Lakes National Park (WLNP) was created by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)-National Park Service (NPS) Vegetation Mapping Program (VMP) for the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park (WGIPP). The WGIPP covers an area of approximately 458,556 ha (1,133,116 acres), and includes approximately 30.5 km (19 miles) of the Canada-United States International Boundary. The Canadian portion of this park (WLNP) is located in southwest Alberta, Canada. The map classification scheme used to create the vegetation data set is designed to represent local plant communities at the finest level possible using the National Vegetation Classification...

The Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument Seboeis Unit Vegetation Mapping Project was initiated in the fall of 2019 by a grant through the USGS Natural Resource Preservation Program to classify and map vegetation types of the Seboeis Unit thereby providing resource managers and biological researchers with useful baseline vegetation information. These data are the results of the field effort to collect accuracy assessment data for testing the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument Seboeis Unit Vegetation Mapping Project vegetation map. Data collection was assisted by Jennifer Tibbetts, David Rubin, and Tiffany Reese. An accuracy assessment was performed on the draft version of the vegetation map layer....

During summer 2019, botanists with the Maine Natural Areas Program collected data from 94 vegetation plots for plant community characterization. The sampling data were entered into the National Park Service PLOTS version 4.0 (National Park Service 2015) for analyses to characterize vegetation associations in the U.S. National Vegetation Classification. An accuracy assessment was performed on the draft version of the vegetation map layer. During the summer of 2020, field crews collected data from 107 stratified and randomly selected sites for evaluating the accuracy of the vegetation map layer for those map classes representing U.S. National Vegetation Classification associations. The accuracy assessment field data...

This polygon feature class represents vegetation communities mapped at Hovenweep National Monument. The polygons were generated using guidelines set by the USGS-NPS Vegetation Mapping Program (http://www.usgs.gov/core_science_systems/csas/vip/standards.html). Original vegetation map unit lines were drawn on mylar overlays of the project photography, then scanned to generate the linework. Due to the "snapshot" nature of the aerial photography, this vegetation layer largely reflects conditions that existed when the imagery was collected (August 1996).

This polygon feature class represents vegetation communities mapped at Pipe Spring National Monument. The polygons were delineated using guidelines set by the USGS-NPS Vegetation Mapping Program (http://www.usgs.gov/core_science_systems/csas/vip/standards.html). The vegetation map unit lines were drawn onscreen using the digital orthophotos available of the project area (collected May of 2006). The line work was cleaned, polygons created then attributed. As with any digital layer, this layer is a representation of what is actually occurring on the ground; errors are inherent in any interpretation of ground qualities. Due to the "snapshot" nature of the aerial photography, this vegetation layer largely reflects conditions...

The vegetation units on this map were determined through the stereoscopic interpretation of aerial photographs supported by field sampling and ecological analysis. The vegetation boundaries were identified on the photographs by means of the photographic signature and collateral information on slope, hydrology, geography, and vegetation in accordance with the Standardized national Vegetation Classification System (October 1995). The mapped vegetation reflects conditions that existed during the specific year and season that the aerial photographs were taken. There is a margin of error inherent in the use of aerial photographs. Therefore, a detailed ground and historical analysis of a single site may result in a revision...

This layer provides the vegetation map for the Seboeis Unit. Information for this layer was collected in 2019 and 2020. After completion of the accuracy assessment process, 33 map classes represent the Seboeis Unit of the monument. Of the 33 map classes that represent the Seboeis Unit, 28 represent natural (including ruderal) vegetation types, consisting of 50 U.S....

This polygon feature class represents vegetation communities mapped at Timpanogos Cave National Monument. The polygons were generated using guidelines set by the Standardized National Vegetation Classification System (October 1995). Vegetation polygons were drawn on-screen using the aerial 2006 photography. Traditional image interpretation cues were used to develop the polygons, such as shape, size, pattern, tone, texture, color, and shadow. Additional data layers were used in aiding the interpretation, such as slope, hydrology, geography, and ground-collected vegetation information. As with any digital layer, this layer is a representation of what is actually occurring on the ground at the time the imagery was...

This polygon feature class represents vegetation communities mapped at Curecanti National Recreation Area. The polygons were generated using guidelines set by the Standardized National Vegetation Classification System (October 1995). Original lines were drawn on mylar overlays using the DOQs collected in June of 2002. Hard copy 9x9 photography was used for photo interpretation. Traditional image interpretation cues were used to develop the polygons, such as shape, size, pattern, tone, texture, color, and shadow. Additional data layers were used in aiding the interpretation, such as slope, hydrology, geography, and ground-collected vegetation information. The attributed vegetation classes were subjected to an accuracy...

This dataset defines the symbology for the landcover map of the Natchez Trace Parkway. The map shows the distribution of 18 landcover classes based on the National Vegetation Classification Standard. Ground-based vegetation classification was provided by National Park Service (NPS). The mapping output and layer delineate grasses, road-developed areas, scrub-shrub, shrubland, plantation, water bodies, areas of white oak, oak, pine-oak, pine-cedar, pine-sweetgum, sweetgum (including sweetgum-oak), scattered trees, swamp forest, irregular classes, aquatic vegetation, invasive species, canopy gaps, and clouds. Mapped classes that have been digitized are noted with an asterisk (*) in the legend.

The geographic information system (GIS) format spatial data set of vegetation for Saint Croix National Scenic Riverway (SACN) was created for the National Park Service (NPS) Vegetation Inventory Program (VIP). The SACN administrative boundary covers an area of nearly 39,500 ha. The project boundary for the SACN vegetation mapping project covers an areas of just over 68,200 ha with the approximate 300 m buffer. The map classification scheme used to create the vegetation data set is designed to represent local vegetation types at the finest level possible using the National Vegetation Classification Standard (NVCS) Version 2. Physiognomic information was also recorded, including height (woody vegetation), canopy density,...
