Establishing connections among natural landscapes is the most frequently recommended strategy for adapting management of natural resources in response to climate change. The U.S. Northern Rockies still support a full suite of native wildlife, and survival of these populations depends on connected landscapes. Connected landscapes support current migration and dispersal as well as future shifts in species ranges that will be necessary for species to adapt to our changing climate. Working in partnership with state and federal resource managers and private land trusts, we sought to: 1) understand how future climate change may alter habitat composition of landscapes expected to serve as important connections for wildlife,...

This dataset contains vegetation data collected at a variety of watershed restoration sites across southeastern Arizona over 5 years. The semiarid habitats in the Madrean Archipelago Ecoregion, which extends from southern Arizona into northern Mexico, are facing many challenges from climate change to land use change which threaten the ecological and cultural values of the region. Watershed restoration practitioners use a variety of techniques such as gabions, check dams, and cross vanes to reduce the effects of these threats and improve or maintain watershed function. Since vegetation dynamics in the area are driven by water availability, these restoration techniques appear to have secondary effects on the vegetation...
This is an antiquated version of the North American Bird Banding Program dataset that has been superseded by a more recent release. Unless visitors have a specific need for these archived data, they should return to the Main NABBP Dataset Page and choose the most recent data release, as that one will include all NABBP data released to date.
The Louisiana State Legislature created Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) in order to conserve, restore, create and enhance Louisiana's coastal wetlands. The wetland restoration plans developed pursuant to these acts specifically require an evaluation of the effectiveness of each coastal wetlands restoration project in achieving long-term solutions to arresting coastal wetlands loss. This data set includes mosaicked aerial photographs for the Delta Wide Crevasses (MR-09) project for 2016. This data is used as a basemap land-water classification. It also serves as a visual tool for project managers to help them identify any obvious problems or land loss within their project boundary....

These files contain data necessary for analyzing state-space models for male greater sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) populations in response to grazing level (relative grazing index), timing, and NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) in Wyoming, USA.
The 'Vulture: Quarterly Reports to DEQ' file is part of the A. F. Budge Mining Ltd. Mining collection. A. F. Budge Mining Ltd., a British company owned by Tony Budge, controlled properties across several western U. S. states and northern Mexico. The company was active in Arizona during the 1980s and into the early 1990s. The collection consists of economic geologic information including maps, logs, reports and records. A few properties make up most of the collection: Vulture, United Verde Extension and Korn Kob.

Many biological, hydrological, and geological processes are interactively linked in ecosystems. These ecological phenomena normally vary within bounded ranges, but rapid, nonlinear changes to markedly different conditions can be triggered by even small differences if threshold values are exceeded. Intrinsic and extrinsic ecological thresholds can lead to effects that cascade among systems, precluding accurate modeling and prediction of system response to climate change. Ten case studies from North America illustrate how changes in climate can lead to rapid, threshold-type responses within ecological communities; the case studies also highlight the role of human activities that alter the rate or direction of system...

Biophysical assessment for indemnity selection of federal lands in Colorado: Terrestrial development
The “Biophysical assessment for indemnity selection of federal lands in Colorado: Development” dataset quantifies the estimated surface disturbance from development (urban, agriculture, energy and mineral extraction and transmission, and roads and railroads) at several analysis scales for each of 89 Indemnity Units. The Indemnity Units are federal lands, currently managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), under consideration for transfer of ownership to the State of Colorado in compensation for federal lands not available for transfer at the time of statehood. The companion data release (see "Cross Reference" section) was used to summarize the surface disturbance from development (development footprint) at...
High-resolution maps of big sagebrush plant community biomass using multivariate matching algorithms
These GeoTIFF data were compiled to investigate how a new multivariate matching algorithm transfers simulated plant functional biomass of big sagebrush plant communities from 200 sites to a gridded product with 30-arcsec spatial resolution. Objectives of our study were to (1) describe how climate change will alter the biomass and composition of key plant functional types; (2) quantify the impacts of climate change on future functional type biomass and composition along climatic gradients; (3) identify if and which geographic locations will be relatively unaffected by climate change while others experience large effects; and (4) determine if there is consistency in climate change impacts on plant communities among...
These data are comprised of measurements of elements (i.e., aluminum, iron, vanadium, chromium, cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc, arsenic, selenium, cadmium, tin, antimony, barium, thallium, lead, mercury, sodium, magnesium, potassium, calcium, manganese, and strontium) in Kemp's ridley sea turtle (Lepidochelys kempii) egg contents. The eggs were collected along the Texas Gulf coast in 2010-2013; only eggs that failed to hatch were retained for analyses. All results are provided on a dry-weight basis in units of mg/kg.
This is a selected data set that outlines the plot areas and trapping grids used to monitor 'Elepaio and black rat activity within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (HAVO) from 2015-2017. These data provide the spatial reference and structure of four field plots used in the study. Please reference the associated metadata and datasets that correspond to this publication for more information on how these locations were used.

Note: this version has been superseded by version 2.0: Warnell, K., Boos, E., and Olander, L.P., 2020, Testing ecosystem accounting in the United States: A case study for the Southeast - 2022 Updates (version 2.0, February 2023): U.S. Geological Survey data release, https://doi.org/10.5066/P9VET1YX. Ecosystems benefit people in many ways, but these contributions do not appear in traditional national or corporate accounts so are often left out of policy- and decision-making. Ecosystem accounts, as formalized by the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting Experimental Ecosystem Accounts (SEEA EEA), track the extent and condition of ecosystem assets and the flows of ecosystem services they provide to people...
