This data set includes WRTDS nutrient flux trend results and the values of daily streamflow trend results displayed in the Quantile-Kendall plots. For 1995-2015 nutrient trends, the method of generalized flow normalization (FNG) was used which explicitly addresses non-stationary streamflow conditions. For 2005-2015 nutrient trends, the WRTDS trend analyses used the method of stationary flow normalization (FNS) because streamflow nonstationarity is difficult to assess over this shorter duration time frame. This child item data set provides high-resolution, nearshore, spatial water-quality data collected from Owasco Lake, New York, on June 26 and October 8, 2019. All data are reported as raw measured values. Continuous water-quality monitors were mounted to a boat at approximately 0.5-meters below the water surface and used to measure nitrate, chlorophyll fluorescence (fChl), fluorescent dissolved organic matter (fDOM), dissolved oxygen, specific conductance, phycocyanin fluorescence (fPC), turbidity, pH, and temperature.

The datasets provided here are the input data used to run the Seasonal Kendall Trend (SKT) tests and Weighted Regressions on Time, Discharge, and Season (WRTDS) models. SKT tests use "annualSamplingFreqs_allSites.csv" and "wqData_screenedSitesAll.csv" which includes, for all site-parameter combinations, information on annual sampling frequencies and the screened water-quality data, respectively. Canadian discrete water quality data and daily streamflow records were evaluated using the Weighted Regression on Time, Discharge, and Seasons (WRTDS) model implemented with the EGRET R package (Hirsch et al. 2010, Hirsch and De Cicco 2015). Models were used to estimate loads of solutes and evaluate trends for three constituents of interest (selenium, nitrate, and sulfate). Six models were generated; one model for each of the three constituents of interest, in each of the two major tributaries to Lake Koocanusa: the Kootenay River at Fenwick (BC08NG0009), and the Elk River above Highway 93 Near Elko (BC08NK0003). Data provided in this release support the findings in Choquette et al. (2019), utilizing methods for evaluating water-quality and daily-streamflow trends described also in Hirsch and DeCicco (2015 and 2018a) and Hirsch (2018). The trend results and model-input data focus on 10 locations in the Lake Erie watershed that have long-term (20 or more years) water-quality and streamflow monitoring records. The trend results include the years 1987 through 2016 or specified sub-periods during this time frame. The U.S. Geological Survey Toxic Substances Hydrology Program at Cape Cod has been investigating the fate and transport of a treated-wastewater, groundwater contaminant plume. A portion of the contaminated groundwater discharges into Ashumet Pond, a kettle hole, freshwater lake. A study was conducted from June 2013 to June 2015 to document transport, transformation, and discharge of dissolved inorganic nitrogen species (DIN; nitrate, nitrite, and nitrous oxide) from the contaminant plume to the lake, across the groundwater-surface water interface. During water years 2016–2020, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, operated continuous monitoring stations on eight of the major rivers in Illinois to better quantify nutrient and sediment loadings from the State of Illinois to the Mississippi River. This data release presents estimates of daily nitrate, suspended sediment, and phosphorus concentrations and uncertainty from that period. The concentration estimates are based on a combination of discrete sampling data and surrogate regression (imputation). The data release comprises a single csv file containing daily timeseries of concentration and uncertainty for each monitoring station.

Geo-referenced measurements of near surface water temperature, specific conductance, dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity, chlorophyll fluorescence, phycocyanin fluorescence, and fluorescence of dissolved organic matter were recorded at 5 second intervals and nitrate+nitrite was recorded at 1 minute intervals during water-quality surveys in order to create high resolution water-quality maps of the study area.

This data release contains a netCDF file containing decadal estimates of nitrate leached from septic systems (kilograms per hectare per year, or kg/ha) in the state of Wisconsin from 1850 to 2010, as well as the python code and supporting files used to create the netCDF file. The netCDF file is used as an input to a Nitrate Decision Support Tool for the State of Wisconsin (GW-NDST; Juckem and others, 2024). Groundwater data were collected in the spring and fall of 2008 from three sites representing different geological settings and biogeochemical conditions within the surficial glacial aquifer of Long Island, NY. Investigations were designed to examine the extent to which average vadose zone thickness in contributing watersheds controlled biogeochemical conditions and processes, including dissolved oxygen concentration (DO), oxidation-reduction potential (Eh), dissolved organic carbon concentration (DOC), and microbial dinitrogen (N2) production.
