The Lynne Deposit is a Volcanogenic Massive Sulfide Deposit in Oneida County in northern Wisconsin containing zinc, lead, silver, and small amounts of gold and copper. In 1990 and 1991, the Noranda Company drilled 133 exploration boreholes, and the core from some of these holes was donated to WGNHS and the Natural Resource Research Institute (NRRI) in Duluth, MN. In 2021, the NRRI donated core from seven holes to WGNHS. These cores were photographed, and detailed logs were created by Dr. Robert Lodge and students from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. Original documentation from the Noranda Company including logs, assays, cross sections, reports, and a site map are available at Oneida County’s website: https://www.co.oneida.wi.us/archive/mining/category1da1.html?linkcatid=9...
Dataset contains digital versions of physical core logs housed in Missouri Geological Survey archives. The logs are variable in detail, ranging from simple locations and formation tops to extensive stratigraphic descriptions and chemistry. A portion were done by MGS staff; others were donated by industry, academia, and government entities. The dataset includes logs for mines or undeveloped deposits with occurrences of or potential for critical minerals, along with logs in areas with permissive geology. The dataset comprises three tables: header and location information; formation/stratigraphic top, bottom and written description; and geochemical and assay data.
Digital files of basement structure in Colorado, including structure contours on top of Precambrian basement rock, selected wells drilled to Precambrian and Lower Paleozoic rocks, sedimentary basins, major oil and gas fields, Precambrian and Upper Cretaceous to Tertiary volcanic and intrusive rock outcrops. Major sedimentary basins and arches, as well as Precambrian mountain ranges and volcanic fields are included. Also included are 73 gas fields and 129 oil fields.

In 1968, the Missouri Geological Survey (MGS) established the Operation Basement program to address three objectives: a) to obtain drill hole and underground mining data relative to the structure and composition of the buried Precambrian basement; b) to expand mapping in the Precambrian outcrop area and conduct research related to Precambrian geology and mineral resources; and c) to publish the results of the first two objectives in the Contribution to Precambrian Geology series (Kisvarsanyi, 1976). The database presented here represents the first of those objectives. It was originally compiled in close cooperation with exploration and mining companies operating in Missouri, who provided drillhole data, core and...

This set includes 52 cores collected from the Mohawk River Valley, NY (Herkimer, Fulton, Montgomery, Schoharie, and Saratoga Counties). Each well was cored continuously from the top of bedrock to the total depth (TD), capturing a complete stratigraphic section of Late Ordovician to (in most cases) Precambrian basement. Core diameters are BX and NX, and lengths range from ~400 to ~1400 feet. The Mohawk Valley cores are of particular value because they were collected at the north end of the Appalachian Basin, in an area where there has been little other exploratory drilling. The results from previous analyses are available upon request.
Collection of cores from 2069 holes in critical mineral focus areas in Wisconsin. This is a subset of the collection, Rock cores from Wisconsin, cores drilled from sites across the state. Metadata follows the UGSS borehole template, with an added field for focus area. Each point shows a drillhole in one of approximately 20 critical minerals focus areas in Wisconsin. Core has been indexed by location and may not show evidence of critical minerals. Three focus areas are quite large and are represented by a large number of drillholes: Pembine-Wasusau terrane VMS, Archaean gneiss terranes, and Midcontinent Rift conduit-type magmatic sulfide Ni-Cu-PGE, but the usefulness of this core in identifying critical minerals...

Hand specimens of rocks collected as a part of field work conducted primarily by present and former WGNHS staff members. Samples date from the early 20th century to the 1990s and were collected throughout the state. Many of the samples are described in the historical field notebook collection, and relationships between the samples and the field notebooks have been established and captured in identifiers. Locations for samples were taken from field notes, maps, and accession lists. There are approximately 5,700 hand samples in this collection.
Access to deliverables produced for Earth Mapping Resources Initiative (MRI) priorities under the National Geologic and Geophysical Data Preservation Program (NGGDPP).

The Ouachita Mountains record the late Paleozoic Laurentia-Gondwana orogenic event along southern Paleo-North America during Pangea supercontinent formation. This data release contains a digital compilation of geomorphic-structural information from the Ouachita Mountains of southeastern Oklahoma and southwestern Arkansas as previously published by Arbenz (2008). The geodatabase, presented herein, contains feature classes that include contact, fault, fold, and cross section lines with map unit polygons characterized by predominantly siliciclastic material with primarily Paleozoic depositional ages. Spatial data are also disseminated as shapefiles, accompanied by applicable non-spatial tables detailing the data sources,...

This digital data release presents subsurface data from multiple geologic units that were part of a previous study of the regional subsurface structural configuration of the Powder River Basin in Wyoming and Montana. The original data within this geodatabase is sourced from an unpublished doctoral dissertation by Jessie Melick at Montana State University (Melick, 2013). Data contained in this release were generated from elevation grids developed by Jessie Melick using 28,000 wells and geophysical well logs penetrating Paleozoic to Mesozoic strata over a 70,000 square-kilometer area designated by the Department of Energy as a realistic locality for geologic carbon sequestration (Melick, 2013). Information included...

A compilation of drill core logs and thin section notes, including well abandonment reports, drill hole location maps, and associated notes, from Minnesota Geological Survey Precambrian geologists. These logs and notes were scanned using NGGDPP FY22 support and will support future investigations of Precambrian geology by MGS Precambrian geologists, other statewide stakeholders, industry, and universities.
Hand specimens of rocks collected in and around Marathon County as part of a bedrock mapping project in the 1970s and 1980s. Specimens were collected by P.E. Myers and UW-Oshkosh geologist Gene LaBerge as part of the field work supporting WGNHS publication Information Circular 45: Precambrian Geology of Marathon County, 1983. The collection consists of about 1500 specimens taken from approximately 580 outcrop locations.
