The California Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment Program (GAMA) is a statewide assessment of groundwater quality designed to help better understand and identify risks to groundwater resources. GAMA is implemented by the California State Water Resources Control Board. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is the technical lead for the Priority Basin Project (PBP), one of the components of the GAMA Program. Starting in 2012, GAMA began an assessment of water resources in domestic-supply (shallow) aquifers in California. These aquifers provide water for domestic and small community-supply wells, which are often drilled to shallower depths in the groundwater system than public-supply wells. Domestic-supply aquifers...

The U.S. Geological Survey collected groundwater samples from 48 grid wells and 11 understanding wells screened in aquifers used for domestic supply in San Bernardino County, California, in 2018. The sites were sampled for the Mojave Basin (MOBS) Shallow Aquifer Study Unit of the California State Water Resources Control Board Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment (GAMA) Program Priority Basin Project’s assessment of the quality of groundwater resources used for domestic and small system drinking water supplies. The MOBS study unit covered the Upper, Middle, and Lower Mojave River groundwater basins, El Mirage groundwater basin, and part of the Harper Valley groundwater basin [California Department of Water...

The U.S. Geological Survey collected groundwater samples from 71 domestic wells and 4 springs in Nevada, Yuba, Sierra, and Placer Counties, California in 2015-2016. The wells and springs were sampled for the Yuba and Bear Watersheds Shallow Aquifer Study Unit of the California State Water Resources Control Board Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment (GAMA) Program Priority Basin Project’s assessment of the quality of groundwater resources used for domestic drinking water supply. The Yuba and Bear Watersheds Shallow Aquifer Study Unit includes portions of the watersheds of the Upper Yuba (hydrologic unit code 18020125) and Upper Bear (hydrologic unit code 18020126) that are within the Sierra Nevada Province....

The California Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment Program (GAMA) is a statewide, comprehensive assessment of groundwater quality designed to help better understand and identify risks to groundwater resources. GAMA is being implemented by the California State Water Resources Control Board. The USGS is the technical lead for the Priority Basin Project (PBP), one of the components of the GAMA Program. The initial focus of the GAMA Priority Basin Project in 2004 to 2012 was on assessment of water-quality in groundwater resources used for public drinking water supply (Belitz and others, 2003; 2015). Groundwater basins and sub-basins (472 in total) were prioritized based upon a number of factors (Belitz and...

The U.S. Geological Survey collected groundwater samples from 50 wells used for domestic and small-system drinking water supplies in Shasta and Tehama Counties, California in 2018-2019. The wells were sampled for the Redding-Red Bluff Shallow Aquifer study unit of the California State Water Resources Control Board Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment (GAMA) Program Priority Basin Project’s assessment of the quality of groundwater resources used for domestic and small-system drinking water supplies. Domestic and small-system wells are commonly screened at shallower depths than public-supply wells. The Redding-Red Bluff Shallow Aquifer study unit consisted of 2 study areas corresponding to 11 groundwater...

The U.S. Geological Survey collected groundwater samples from 46 wells used for domestic and small system drinking water supplies in San Joaquin, Calaveras, and Stanislaus counties, California in 2019. The wells were sampled for the Northern San Joaquin Valley Domestic-Supply Aquifer Study Unit of the California State Water Resources Control Board Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment (GAMA) Program Priority Basin Project’s assessment of the quality of groundwater resources used for domestic and small system drinking water supplies. Domestic and small-system wells are commonly screened at shallower depths than public-supply wells. The Northern San Joaquin Valley study unit encompasses the Eastern San Joaquin...
