In 1968, the Missouri Geological Survey (MGS) established the Operation Basement program to address three objectives: a) to obtain drill hole and underground mining data relative to the structure and composition of the buried Precambrian basement; b) to expand mapping in the Precambrian outcrop area and conduct research related to Precambrian geology and mineral resources; and c) to publish the results of the first two objectives in the Contribution to Precambrian Geology series (Kisvarsanyi, 1976). The database presented here represents the first of those objectives. It was originally compiled in close cooperation with exploration and mining companies operating in Missouri, who provided drillhole data, core and...

This publication provides digital flight line data for a high-resolution horizontal magnetic gradient and radiometric survey over an area of southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, and western Kentucky. The survey was conducted in collaboration with the Missouri Geological Survey as part of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Mapping Resource Initiative (Earth MRI) effort (Day, 2019). Earth MRI is a cooperative effort between the USGS, the Association of American State Geologists, and other Federal, State, and private sector organizations to improve our knowledge of the geologic framework of the United States. Data for this survey were collected by Terraquest, Ltd. under contract with the USGS using a fixed-wing...
Airborne radiometric flight and tie line data the includes estimated concentrations of potassium, thorium, and uranium and total count radioactivity are provided here in NetCDF (Network Common Data Form) format along with a GeoTIFF grid of a ternary K, U, Th grid. Along with the data provided on this child page, a report in PDF format by the airborne contractor that describes the technical details of the data collection, reduction and processing procedures and a zip file that contains the contractor's deliverable products (Geosoft databases and grids) for the magnetic and radiometric survey is available on the parent page (https://doi.org/10.5066/P9TK8KMM).

An investigation was completed by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs that found 1,132 transportation and utility assets in Indiana are vulnerable to fluvial erosion hazards due to close proximity to actively migrating streams. Locations of transportation assets (bridges, roadways, and railroad lines) and selected utility assets (high-capacity overhead power-transmission lines, underground pipelines, water treatment facilities, and in-channel dams) were determined using aerial imagery hosted by the Google Earth platform. Identified assets were aggregated by stream reach, county, and class. The contents of this data release include (1) a comma-delimited...

Airborne magnetic gradiometry data along the tie and flight lines are provided here in CSV (Comma Separated Value) format along with a GeoTIFF grid of the total magnetic intensity (TMI) in nanoTeslas.

This data release compiles major and trace element analytical results of samples of bauxite (aluminum ore) and associated rocks collected from the Arkansas bauxite region, located near the center of Arkansas in Pulaski and Saline Counties. Samples were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in April 2018 as part of the USGS' focus on increased understanding of the United States' critical mineral resources. Mineral commodities, based on USGS studies, have been designated as critical where the United States is predominantly reliant on foreign sources (McCullough and Nassar, 2017; Fortier and others, 2018). The five primary aluminum smelters in the U.S., in 2017 and previous years, were dependent on imported...
