This data set provides the coordinates of plot centers, the area of each plot, plot type, and search history of the plot. Plots in this data set are linked through the combination of plot number and year provided in this file. Plot search history indicates if a plot was searched for nests. Plot shape and area has varied through time. After 1985, plot were selected by stratified random sampling, and after 1998 by simple random sampling from the area defined in ‘YKD Nest Plot Study Area Boundary.’ Plot shape has also varied but after 1998 was generally 1/4 by 1/2 mile.

The Arkansas River Shiner (ARS), Notropis girardi, is a federally threatened minnow that now occurs natively in modest numbers only in the South Canadian River, following decades of range contraction and population losses. The remaining populations are at increasing risk as global change is expected to impact the upper and middle South Canadian River with a rise in temperature as much as 4-6 F and a decrease in precipitation from 10 to 35 % in this century. We used comparative landscape genetics to examine the relative roles of historical events, intrinsic traits and landscape factors in determining the distribution of genetic diversity of river fishes across the North American Great Plains. Spatial patterns of diversity were overlaid on a patch-based graphical model and then compared within and among three species that co-occurred across five Great Plains watersheds. On a global scale biodiversity within river networks is threatened by interactions between habitat fragmentation and altered hydrologic regimes. Intrafragment ecology is little studied for imperiled riverine fishes although river fragmentation and habitat loss increasingly threaten sensitive species. A long-term population-monitoring program in the Pecos River, New Mexico, provided detailed data for 15 annual cohorts of speckled chub (Macrhybopsis aestivalis), which were used to assess intrafragment patterns in recruitment and year-class strength in relation to distributional patterns, flow-regime characteristics, and air temperature. This multi-layer GeoPackage contains the YKD Coastal Zone Survey design transects from 1985 to present. The original transects were imported to this SQLite database structure and saved as individual polylines named according to the year they were created (e.g., “main.YK_1985_Trans,” “main.YK_1986_Trans,” “main.YK_1987_Trans,” etc.). The aerial transects were developed systematically from randomly-selected start points and created along constant lines of latitude. The inter-transect spacing in the low, medium, high, and very-high density strata varies so that areas with higher waterfowl density are surveyed more intensively. This geopackage contains the density strata that were used to create the YKD Coastal Zone Survey’s current four-year rotating panel design. This file was derived from a mid-1980’s ArcInfo coverage, ‘Sampling Intensity’ (“SI arc”) that was produced through the visual interpretation of 1:250,000-scale LANDSAT imagery and the nesting density of cackling Canada geese.
This file crosswalks each species in the raw transcribed data to a common name, scientific name, four-letter American Ornithological Union (AOU) species code, and provides species-specific decision logic for the analysis of Arctic Coastal Plain, Black Scoter, Copper River, and Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta aerial survey data.

Aerial surveys with locations, habitat type, and count estimates for Sandhill Cranes (Grus canadensis) and waterfowl. Waterfowl were distinguished between ducks, dark geese, and light geese. Habitat types described include: main channel, side channel, pond or wetland, and field adjacent to river, pond, or wetland. Crane and waterfowl habitat use was collected on the North and South Platte Rivers from the confluence of the North and South Platte River near North Platte, Nebraska to the Nebraska state line. Survey data was used to create habitat use models for ducks, geese, and sandhill cranes.

Priority and use segments for Sandhill Cranes (Antigone canadensis). Segments designated as use areas were utilized during annual spring surveys 2014-2016. Priority areas were determined using statistical modeling. The reduced model that best predicted use by Sandhill cranes included total area of trees, pits, crops and unvegetated sandbar habitats in each segments. Mean distance to conservation lands and roads and minimum distance to transmission lines and towers were also included in the model. Only distance to lines and total tree area had a significant (p < 0.05) relationship with priority core segments.

This is the raw YKD salinity data for fixed and random plot 2006 - 2019. No attempt has been made for quality control on these data. These data are quality controled using the R code in the file ‘YKDsalinity_QC.R’ to produce the data used for analysis and sharing (‘YKDsalinity_QC.R’). These data should not generally be used or distributed other than when the quality control process is revised and downstream data files need to be recreated (i.e., information is needed from these raw data that is not represented in the quality control files).
This file documents changes that were made to the original “raw” transcribed data during the quality assurance / quality control process when duplicate records were deleted, typographical errors were corrected, and character encoding was revised to conform to the current data standards.
