A polygon dataset of current road footprints in the SNK REA derived from the Alaska Department of Natural Resources infrastructure data (see the process steps for details). (This data depicts infrastructure locations in Alaska as digitized primarily from 1:24,000, 1:63,360, and 1:250,000 USGS quadrangles. The source document that represented the newest information and best geographic location was used to capture the data. All infrastructure from the primary source document was digitized and then supplemented with the information from other source documents for additional or updated infrastructure or attributes.)

This dataset represents roads in the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem (with a 50km buffer). Developed with the most recently available data and represents roads in ~2016. This dataset was developed by the Crown Managers Partnership, as part of a transboundary collaborative management initiative for the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem, based on commonly identified management priorities that are relevant at the landscape scale. The CMP is collaborative group of land managers, scientists, and stakeholder in the CCE. For more information on the CMP and its collaborators, programs, and projects please visit: http://crownmanagers.org/ This dataset has been produced by merging the "National Road Network (NRN) - AB,...

Wyoming railroads and rail yards were created at 1:24000 as an accurate representation for taxation purposes. This is critical for the GIS analysis needs of the Ad Valorem mapping section. This was not meant to be nor was it based on legal descriptions.

The availability of transportation routes is a major factor that influences the social and economic atmosphere of communities in the CYR study area. The influences of transportation routes can be both negative and positive, but nonetheless changes occur when a community becomes connected to a larger transportation network. The Alaska Railroad is the primary rail network throughout Alaska and the region. The Northern Rail Extension project will extend the current railroad system south of Fairbanks to Delta Junction. There are four phases of this project, with Phase 1 completed. Phase 2 includes expansion of the railroad from Moose Creek near North Pole to across the newly built Tanana River Bridge by Salcha. The...
Density of linear features, such as roads, power lines, telephone lines, and railroad tracks have been shown to influence synanthropic predator abundance patterns (Knight et al. 1995). Following Knight et al. (1995), we used linear features such as roads, railroads, and power line spatial data sets, but also included irrigation canals, to build a linear features spatial data set. However, we lacked spatial data on telephone and feeder-power lines and therefore our linear feature spatial data set vastly underestimates the number of linear features in some areas.

This dataset shows the density of the intercepts of roads and streams in the Crown of the Continent and a 50km buffer. This dataset has been produced by merging the “National Road Network (NRN) - AB, Alberta” shapefile obtained from GeoBase , Digital Road Atlas (DRA) of British Colombia from GeoBC and “Roads from the Montana Transportation Framework MSDI” for Montana, US Provided by Montana State Library. This dataset was developed by the Crown Managers Partnership, as part of a transboundary collaborative management initiative for the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem, based on commonly identified management priorities that are relevant at the landscape scale. The source document that represented the newest information and best geographic location was used to capture the data. In addition, ISER added major rivers (those being named in the Anadromous streams catalog and > 150 km in length) and the historic Iditarod Trails for additional reference.

This dataset was created by the Conservation Biology Institute to identify the amount of water (based on NHD linear and polygon features) within 500 meters of roads and railroads. This datset was converted to raster (at 30m resolution) to circumvent vector processing issues created by the complexity of the input datsets and to facilitate coverage calculations across reporting units.Original metadata for the NHD: The National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) is a feature-based database that interconnects and uniquely identifies the stream segments or reaches that make up the nation's surface water drainage system. NHD data was originally developed at 1:100,000-scale and exists at that scale for the whole country. This high-resolution...

We evaluated the fragmentation of the western United States by anthropogenic features. The addition of roads, railroads, and power lines to wildlands, and the conversion of wildlands to agricultural land and/or urban areas, induces fragmentation. We used the following spatial data sets to model anthropogenic fragmentation: agricultural land, populated areas, power lines, railroads, and roads. Because we were interested in the spatial arrangements of wildland patches and how anthropogenic fragmentation affects wildlife dispersal, we buffered some of these spatial data sets according to their area of influence. For example, the area of influence of interstate highways extends beyond the traffic lanes (Rowland et al....

This dataset was created to serve as one sub-layer of the Florida Marine Blueprint. The Florida Marine Blueprint was created to aid in prioritizing ecosystems and habitats derived from species biodiversity, highly valued habitat and potential marine migratory corridors. Highest priority areas are those where there is high species biodiversity/richness and overlaps in valued habitats. The Blueprint will then be used to inform where potential management and conservation practices should be focused and potentially carried out.
