Lidar-derived digital elevation models often contain a vertical bias due to vegetation. In areas with tidal influence the amount of bias can be ecologically significant, for example, by decreasing the expected inundation frequency. The purpose of the plowprint is to track annual grassland conversion to cropland across the Mississippi River Basin and Great Plains region, and to provide a way to measure the loss of this important habitat type, against which annual changes can be compared. Heat load, a unitless value from 0 (low incident radiation) to around 1 (high incident radiation), is calculated using aspect, slope, and latitude (McCune and Dylan 2002). For the purposes of the exploration tool, the data are binned into 6 classes using Geometric Interval. Classes range from very low to very high and are designed to allow the classification of a polygon into its heat load types. Multispectral remote sensing data acquired by Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) sensor were analyzed using an automated technique to generate surficial mineralogy and vegetation maps of the conterminous western United States. Six spectral indices (e.g. band-ratios), highlighting distinct spectral absorptions, were developed to aid in the identification of mineral groups in exposed rocks, soils, mine waste rock, and mill tailings across the landscape. This data release contains land cover-derived statistics regarding estuarine vegetated wetland area change within estuary drainage areas along the conterminous U.S. This dataset includes net change in estuarine vegetated wetland area based on National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Coastal Change Assessment Program (C-CAP) 1996 and 2016 land cover data. Net change was assessed between estuarine vegetated wetlands (i.e., estuarine marshes, mangroves, non-mangrove estuarine woody wetlands, and salt pannes, depending on vegetation coverage and type) and the following other landcover classes: 1) water; 2) unconsolidated shore; 3) freshwater woody wetlands; 4) freshwater marsh; 5) upland; and 6) agriculture....

This dataset contains an inventory of landslides in many of the most landslide-prone parts of Minnesota. This project was created to improve our understanding of the landslide hazard in Minnesota and to provide a nearly statewide base map of landslide data. The mapping was performed by geologists from the U.S. Geological Survey, the Freshwater Society, and several academic institutions where undergraduate students, graduate students and faculty performed mapping. Multispectral remote sensing data acquired by the Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) sensor were analyzed using a new, automated technique to generate a map of exposed mineral and vegetation groups in the western San Juan Mountains, Colorado and the Four Corners Region of the United States (Rockwell and others, 2021). Spectral index (e.g. band-ratio) results were combined into displayed mineral and vegetation groups using Boolean algebra. New analysis logic has been implemented to exploit the coastal aerosol band in Landsat 8 OLI data and identify concentrations of iron sulfate minerals. These results may indicate the presence of near-surface pyrite, which can be a potential non-point source of acid rock drainage....

These data are 30m by 30 m grids of the mean Standardized Precipitation-Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI) between 2001-2014 in the western United States. The SPEI index was developed by Sergio M. Vicente-Serrano and coauthors (https://spei.csic.es/index.html). Source evapotranspiration and precipitation data were generated by gridMET (http://www.climatologylab.org/gridmet.html).
This data release includes 2022 data for the Louisiana Outer Coast Restoration Project for North Breton Island. Specifically, this data release includes a detailed habitat map, general habitat map, georeferenced imagery, and a bare-earth digital elevation model (DEM) developed from light detection and ranging data. These habitat maps are developed using the methods and classification scheme from Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority’s (CPRA) Barrier Island Comprehensive Monitoring (BICM) program. The GeoTiff raster data were created from subtraction of elevation values collected in 2012 from elevation values collected in 2011. Both data collections were conducted by airborne lidar surveys contracted by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. These survey occured before and after a historical rain event that cause widespread landscape change. The shapefiles are polygon objects that illustrate where erosion and deposition occurred on slopes and in valleys in the June 2012 rain event in the Duluth, MN region

The Data Distribution Site directs you to the LANDFIRE Viewer, where you can view the 30-meter resolution layers, metadata, and descriptions. This viewer provides assorted tools allowing the ability to interact and manipulate any data displayed within the viewer. Data extents are defined by dragging an extent or defining coordinates.
