The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has compiled a geodatabase containing mineral-related geospatial data for 19 countries of interest in the Indo-Pacific region (area of study): Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Burma, Fiji, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Korea (Republic of Korea), Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam. The data can be used in analyses of the extractive fuel and nonfuel mineral industries integral for the successful operation of the mineral industries within the area of study. This geodatabase reflects the USGS ongoing commitment to its mission of understanding the nature and distribution of global mineral commodity...

Sediment particles can strongly bind metals, effectively repartitioning them from solution to a solid phase. As a result, sediments may accumulate and retain metals released to an aquatic environment. Sediment cores provide a historical record of metal inputs that can reveal anthropogenic influences (Förstner and Wittmann, 1979). Specifically, studies of sediment cores in San Francisco Bay chronicled metal inputs and suggested that legacy contamination can remain a chronic source of metals to the system owing to sediment mixing and redistribution (Hornberger and others, 1999; Van Geen and Luoma, 1999). Metals in sediments also indicate exposure levels to benthic animals through contact with, and ingestion of, bottom...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has compiled a geodatabase containing mineral-related geospatial data for the People's Republic of China. The data can be used in analyses of the extractive fuel and nonfuel mineral industries and related economic and physical infrastructure integral for the successful operation of the mineral industries within the area of study as well as the movement of mineral products across domestic and global markets. This geodatabase reflects the USGS ongoing commitment to its mission of understanding the nature and distribution of global mineral commodity supply chains by updating and publishing the georeferenced locations of mineral commodity production and processing facilities, mineral...

Trace-metal concentrations in sediment and in the clam Limecola petalum (World Register of Marine Species, 2020; formerly reported as Macoma balthica and M. petalum), clam reproductive activity, and benthic macroinvertebrate community structure were investigated in a mudflat located 1 kilometer south of the discharge of the Palo Alto Regional Water Quality Control Plant (PARWQCP) in south San Francisco Bay, California. This report includes data collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) starting in January 2019. These data append to long-term datasets extending back to 1974. This dataset supports the City of Palo Alto’s Near-Field Receiving-Water Monitoring Program, initiated in 1994. This data release is presented...
Baggs, D.W., and Sherman, G.E., 1987, Feasibility of economic zinc, copper, silver, and gold mining in the Porcupine mining area of the Juneau mining district, Alaska: U.S. Bureau of Mines Open-File Report 15-87, 28 p.
The objective of this research was to determine the volume of silver that might reasonably be expected to be supplied from secondary sources in the future by establishing and analyzing the price -supply relationship. It was determined that there are very large unreported U.S. stocks of silver bullion, coin, and sterling silver which, under certain conditions, can become an important increment to the future market supply. The price- elasticity of supply of silver refined from both new and old scrap in the aggregate is relatively low --at 0.3. The supply of silver refined from coins, however, is highly price -elastic with an elasticity calculated at 1.6 to 2.7. It was also found that U.S. capacity to process and refine...

The Alaska Geochemical Database Version 4.0 (AGDB4) contains geochemical data compilations in which each geologic material sample has one best value determination for each analyzed species, greatly improving efficiency of use. The relational database includes historical geochemical data archived in the USGS National Geochemical Database (NGDB), the Atomic Energy Commission National Uranium Resource Evaluation (NURE) Hydrogeochemical and Stream Sediment Reconnaissance databases, and the Alaska Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) Geochemistry database. Data from the U.S. Bureau of Mines and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management are included as well. The data tables describe historical and new quantitative...

This Final Report summarizes the results of work accomplished under Contract No. J0215039. It is in an executive overview or executive summary format. The number and description of the various technical reports prepared and submitted is outlined. The essential changes and reasons for the revised program schedule /contract modifications actually enacted in May 1982 are discussed in detail. The evolving mines /deposits list and the accompanying criteria classifications are explained along with the verifications /justifications for adding or deleting specific mines /deposits to the list. Difficulties and problems experienced during the different phases of the project in conjunction with the ensuing remedies are highlighted....
