This dataset represents soils of Wyoming at 1:100,000- scale. The layer contains 350 separate soils descriptions across 23 Wyoming counties. The layer was compiled based on the five-factor soil forming model using digital surficial geology, bedrock geology, and elevation. This dataset will be more fully documented in 23 AES publications scheduled for completion in winter of 99/00. These publications will use the designation AES Bulletin B-1071 followed by a two letter abreviation for each county.

This project developed a soil vulnerability index and map indicating where forest cover will be most affected by climate change. Using this map, researchers developed a greater understanding of potential changes in soil moisture and temperature regimes under future climate conditions. They then evaluated how this information could be used to improve vegetation models across the landscape. They compared the results of different modeling approaches to the soil vulnerability map, synthesized the state of knowledge and uncertainty, and introduced management implications for action.

Information on the nature and distribution of permafrost is critical to assessing the response of Arctic ecosystems to climate change, because thawing permafrost under a warming climate will cause thaw settlement and affect micro-topography, surface water redistribution and groundwater movement, soil carbon balance, trace gas emissions, vegetation changes, and habitat use. While a small-scale regional permafrost map is available, as well as information from numerous site-specific large-scale mapping projects, landscape-level mapping of permafrost characteristics is needed for regional modeling and climate impact assessments. The project addresses this need by: (1) compiling existing soil/permafrost data from available...

Mangrove restoration has a strong potential to enhance the services provided by coastal wetlands on a number of Department of the Interior (DOI) managed lands throughout the southeastern United States of America. Services include storm protection, water quality improvement, and biological carbon sequestration. Forest structural attributes including basal area, tree height, and stem density by species are used to calculate above ground biomass and above ground productivity. Percent cover is used to asses the forest canopy health. The data collected for the soils are: bulk density, percent total Nitrogen, percent total Carbon, and selected samples percent total Phosporus. The forest structure plots were placed in...

This data set includes geospatial data and tables providing location, environmental, and vegetation data collected in 2017 and 2018 at the Little Saint Francis River (LSFR) chat pile restoration site, Fredericktown, Madison County, Missouri. Restoration actions are being implemeneted as part of the settlement for the Madison County Mines Superfund site to compensate the public for losses of natural resources and the services they provide as part of the Natural Resource Damage Assessment and Restoration Southeast Missouri Lead Mining District case. Data were collected prior to and during the early stages of restoration actions to restore bottomland forest habitat, reduce invasive plant species abundance, and improve...

The Database was built to enable data integration across sources, as well as to support program planning and observational network design. The Imiq Data Portal provides a snapshot of available hydroclimate data – a map-based view of where , what , and when data have been obtained. Users can submit a custom data query, specifying variable of interest, geographic bounds, and time step. Imiq will aggregate and export data records from multiple sources in a common format, with full metadata records that provide information about the source data.

This dataset represents soils of Wyoming at 1:500,000- scale. The layer contains 45 separate soils descriptions across 10 Wyoming soil zones. The layer was compiled based on the five-factor soil forming model using digital surficial geology, bedrock geology, and elevation. This dataset is documented in the report: Munn, L.C. and C.S. Arneson, 1998. Soils of Wyoming: A Digital Statewide Map at 1:500,000-Scale. Agricultural Experiment Station Report B-1069. University of Wyoming, College of Agriculture, Laramie, Wyoming.

This dataset was produced by the US Geological Survey as a supporting dataset to be used for the purpose of calculating stream gage basin characteristics in preparation for the South Carolina StreamStats application. This integer raster dataset represents runoff curve numbers for the combinations of hydrological soils groupings and land cover types within the South Carolina StreamStats study area. Soils data are from the USDA, NRCS SSURGO soils database and land cover data are USGS 2019 NLCD data. The dataset will be used in peak flow regression equations that are used to predict flow in South Carolina streams. The StreamStats application provides access to spatial analytical tools that are useful for water-resources...

The Imiq Hydroclimate Database houses hydrologic, climatologic, and soils data collected in Alaska and Western Canada from the early 1900s to the present. This database unifies and preserves numerous data collections that have, until now, been stored in field notebooks, on desktop computers, as well as in disparate databases. Synthesizing and analyzing the large-scale hydroclimate characteristics of this important climatic region have been made easier with this searchable database. The data, originally collected in a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 relational database, has been migrated to an open source PostgreSQL and PostGIS environment. The Imiq Data Portal provides public access to portions of the Imiq Hydroclimate...

The over-arching theme of this work is that soil data affect the performance and realism of vegetation models with particular focus on their ability to predict or explain disturbances such as fire or disease. We tested the sensitivity of the Excel version of the 3-PG model to soil properties and applied this information to understanding bark beetle attacks in drought-stressed forests. We tested the sensitivity of the MC2 model to soil depth with a particular focus on how soils affect the biogeochemistry and fire modules of the Dynamic Global Vegetation Model (DGVM). We found in these sensitivity analyses, soil depth, soil water storage capacity (ASW) and soil texture are among the most important soil factors to...

This study evaluated CO2 flux from soils and pneumatophores of Avicennia germinans mangrove trees subjected to nitrogen and phosphorus fertilization versus an unfertilized control with a basin mangrove ecosystem. Data were collected twice, once in the summer (June 2020) and once in the winter (November 2020) and will be used to help develop a carbon budget for basin mangroves on Sanibel Island, Florida. These data were presented as part of an M.S. Thesis (Florida Atlantic University, Natalie T. Faron, 2021), entitled “The impact of nutrient loading on the soil and root respiration rates of Florida mangroves”.
