The continental United States (CONUS) was modeled to produce simulations of historical and potential future streamflow using the Precipitation-Runoff Modeling System (PRMS) application of the USGS National Hydrologic Model Infrastructure (NHMI; Regan and others, 2018). This child page specifically contains a suite of 52 streamflow metrics. This dataset contains a zipped file (dailyQs.zip) of daily streamflow data for 1,378 streamgages in 19 study regions in the conterminous U.S. from October 1, 1980 through September 30, 2013 from mostly undisturbed watersheds. USGS streamgages that were identified as being of “reference” quality in the GAGES-II dataset (https://water.usgs.gov/lookup/getspatial?gagesII_Sept2011) and had at least 10 complete water years (WYs) during the study period from WY1981 through WY2013 were selected. The Wetland Reserve Program (WRP) is a voluntary program administered by the NRCS. It provides technical and financial assistance to private landowners and Tribes to restore, protect, and enhance wetlands in exchange for retiring eligible land from agriculture. For a site to be a wetland eligible for restoration, it must be in a zone with sustained or frequent flooding for a period of 7 consecutive days on average at least once every 2 years (a value termed the 7MQ2). Robinson Forest, in eastern Kentucky, is a research forest owned and operated by the University of Kentucky (UK) since the 1920s. The UK Department of Forestry and Natural Resources began collecting streamflow and water-chemistry data in the forest starting with weirs at Falling Rock and Little Millseat in 1971, and supplemented by weirs at Coles Fork and Clemons Fork in 1973. The U.S. Geological Survey, in collaboration with American Rivers and other partners, conducted a monitoring program beginning in 2010 to track river response to a series of dam removals on the Patapsco River intended to restore anadromous fish habitat in the watershed. Dam removals included the November 2010 removal of the Simkins dam, a 3.3 m tall and 66 m wide dam, with a reservoir sediment volume of ~67,000 cubic meters. As part of the dam removal monitoring program, three USGS streamgaging stations were established in late 2010 along the mainstem of the Patapsco River to estimate flow and suspended sediment-transport for constraining sediment budgets. The National Water Quality Network (NWQN) for Rivers and Streams includes 110 surface-water river and stream sites monitored by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Water Quality Program, National Water-Quality Assessment (NAWQA) Project. The NWQN includes 20 large river coastal sites, 41 large river inland sites, 30 wadeable stream reference sites, 10 wadeable stream urban sites, and 9 wadeable stream agricultural sites. Tree-ring reconstructions of water-year (Oct 1 through Sep 30th) flow for 31 gaging sites in Missouri River basin, with complete data for 1685 through 1977 (n = 293 water years). The complete 105 tree-ring reconstructions of streamflow used in the Nature Scientific Reports paper were obtained from various sources; 74 flow reconstructions were obtained from the web resource, TreeFlow (http://www.treeflow.info/), and an additional 31 flow reconstructions (provided here) for the Missouri River basin were obtained from the U.S. Geological Survey in Bozeman, Montana.
