The Ozark Plateau aquifer system stretches across approximately 70,000 square miles (mi2) of Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma, and is composed of many hydrogeologic units, such as the Boone aquifer and the Roubidoux aquifer. However, this data release is focused on only 11,000 mi2 in northern Arkansas, southeastern Kansas, southwestern Missouri, and northeastern Oklahoma. The Boone aquifer covers approximately 10,700 mi2 of this area, and the Roubidoux aquifer covers the 11,000 mi2 area entirely. These aquifers are mostly made of Mississippian-aged and Ordovician-aged carbonate rock, and serve as the main sources of fresh groundwater in northeastern Oklahoma (Imes and Emmett, 1994). In 2017, the U.S. Geological...

This part of DS 781 presents data for the faults of the Punta Gorda to Point Arena, California, region. The vector data file is included in the "Faults_PuntaGordaToPointArena.zip," which is accessible from https://doi.org/10.5066/P9PNNI9H. Faults in the Punta Gorda and Point Arena region are identified on seismic-reflection data based on abrupt truncation or warping of reflections and (or) juxtaposition of reflection panels with different seismic parameters such as reflection presence, amplitude, frequency, geometry, continuity, and vertical sequence. Faults were primarily mapped by interpretation of seismic reflection profile data collected by the U.S. Geological Survey between 2010 and 2012.

The National Seismic Hazard Model (NSHM) utilizes a fault sections database (FSD) throughout the model workflow. Working towards a 2023 NSHM release, the NSHM23 FSD encompasses a major update with the addition of new fault sections, as well as the revision of existing fault sections from prior FSD (2014). The additions and revisions were largely based on the U.S. Geological Survey's Quaternary Faults and Folds Database (QFFD). The nshm-faultmaps.ipynb Jupyter Notebook (Python code) provides users with a visual, side-by-side comparison of fault representations from the QFFD, NSHM14 FSD and NSHM23 FSD. The code downloads the fault sections databases to the user's computer and plots maps of each fault based on the...

This report summarizes the age-dating results from two alluvial fan surfaces (map units Qyf2 and Qyf3) that are broken by strands of the Cucamonga Fault, in southern California, at Day Canyon and Etiwanda Canyon. Within this report are detailed the methodology used to collect samples of rock and sediment, determine concentrations of cosmogenic beryllium-10 in purified quartz isolated from the samples, and use those nuclide concentrations to calculate surface exposure ages. This report should be used as the supplementary materials for any publication(s) that uses the nuclide concentrations and/or ages reported herein. This version supersedes all previous age estimates and reports.

Laboratory slide-hold-slide tests were conducted in a conventional triaxial deformation configuration on 3/4-inch diameter cylindrical cores of Eureka quartzite bisected by a sawcut oriented at 30 degrees from vertical. Tests were conducted at constant normal stresses of 30, 110, and 210 MPa with a 10 MPa pore fluid pressure. The pore fluid was deionized water. Experiments were conducted at temperatures of 22, 100, and 200 degC.

Rapid population growth and declining annual recharge to aquifers in the upper Santa Cruz basin area of southern Arizona, has increased the demand for additional groundwater resources. This demand is predicted to escalate in the future due to higher temperatures, longer droughts, less aquifer recharge, and decreased river and stream base flow. We conducted geologic studies to help evaluate and better understand groundwater resources in the basin. Results of these studies are presented in this report, which summarizes the basin geologic framework and hydrogeology, and presents a 3-D hydrogeologic model for the Rio Rico and Nogales 7.5' quadrangles. Three major hydrogeologic units are displayed in the 3-D model; a...

Two active landslides at and near the retreating front of Barry Glacier at the head of Barry Arm Fjord in southern Alaska (Figure 1) could generate tsunamis if they failed rapidly and entered the water of the fjord. Landslide A, at the front of the glacier, is the largest, with a total volume estimated at 455 M m3 (Dai et al, 2020). Historical photographs from Barry Arm indicate that Landslide A initiated in the mid twentieth century, but there was a large pulse of movement between 2010 and 2017 when Barry Glacier thinned and retreated from about 1/2 of the toe of Landslide A (Dai et al., 2020). The glacier has continued to retreat since 2017. Interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) investigations of the...
These datasets provide bedrock mapping and geochemistry, low-temperature thermochronology, remotely mapped lineaments, field observations of interpreted faults, and structure from motion models in the Pit River Region of northeastern California. The bedrock mapping datasets contain bedding orientations and field rock descriptions and associated geochemistry and 40Ar/39Ar data for a limited number of samples. Low-temperature thermochronology datasets contain (U-Th)/He measurements for two samples from the Klamath terranes. Remotely mapped lineaments, field observations of lineaments, and structure from motion models document the Quaternary-active faults in the region. Simplified fault traces for interpreted Quaternary-active...
