These data were collected as part of a study to assess the stormwater volume reduction capabilities of urban street trees. In this paired-catchment study rainfall-runoff relations were developed in a medium-density residential area before and after half of the street trees were removed from the treatment basin. The Supplementary_Event_Data set contains rainfall depth and intensity, event date and duration, and paired runoff volume and peak discharge for 135 rainfall events that ocurred between May and September 2018-2020. Unit value discharge and rainfall data used to develop the Supplementary_Event_Data are also published in this data release.

This dataset presents observations and measurements of riparian plant invasion, community composition, and environmental conditions at 238 bridge crossings in four western USA river basins: the Colorado Headwaters, upper/middle Rio Grande, upper Arkansas River, and South Platte River (281,946 square kilometers). The 238 sites are a stratified random sample of all bridge crossings in the river basins, with roughly equal numbers of sites in landscapes dominated by (1) urban and residential (developed) land-use, (2) agricultural (cultivated) land-use, and (3) undeveloped land cover. The dataset includes field observations of stem counts for three non-native riparian woody plant taxa (Tamarix ramosissima x T. chinensis...

Biological, chemical, physical habitat, riparian, and land-use data collected from the Midwest streams by the National Water Quality Project Regional Stream Quality Team. Data were used to develop structural equation models for the purpose of understanding how networks of potential stressors influence stream ecological health. This dataset describes streamflow and precipitation event statistics for four watersheds located in Clarksburg, Maryland, USA. Streamflow and precipitation events were identified from fourteen years of sub-daily (5- and 15-minute) monitoring data from October 1, 2004 through September 30, 2018. A 6-hour inter-event window was used to define discrete streamflow and precipitation events. The following streamflow metrics were calculated for each event area normalized peak streamflow, runoff yield, runoff ratio, streamflow duration, time to peak, and rise rate. Precipitation event metrics include total precipitation depth and precipitation event duration.

To better map the urban class and understand how urban lands change over time, we removed rural roads and small patches of rural development from the NLCD developed class and created four wall-to-wall maps (1992, 2001, 2006, and 2011) of urban land. Removing rural roads from the NLCD developed class involved a multi-step filtering process, data fusion using geospatial road and developed land data, and manual editing. Reference data classified as urban or not urban from a stratified random sample was used to assess the accuracy of the 2001 and 2006 urban and NLCD maps. The newly created urban maps had higher overall accuracy (98.7%) than the NLCD maps (96.2%). More importantly, the urban maps resulted in lower commission...

Nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and total suspended solids (TSS) loads, in Hampton Roads, Virginia stormwater conveyance systems have been calculated using monitoring data from 12 intensively monitored watersheds for the period from water year (October - September) 2016 through 2020. Nutrient and TSS loads were computed using a surrogate (multiple-linear regression) approach with lab analyzed N, P, and TSS samples as the response variable and basic water-quality parameters (e.g. turbidity, specific conductance, water temperature), streamflow, a baseflow separation Boolean term, and time and seasonal terms as predictor (surrogate) variables. Load results represent the mass of N, P, and TSS exported from each of the...

This data set contains the result for inorganic constituents and organic compounds collected from tapwater locations, as well as water filtration plants, in East Chicago, Indiana, and Chicago, Illinois in 2017. Additionally quality assurance data collected was summarized. Residential samples collected were done so directly from residential kitchen taps (faucets) as is, it was noted if a point-of-use filtration device was utilized by the homeowner, but they were not removed for sampling. Samples were collected at various times of the day, without regard to previous water use. Results were analyzed using ToxCast, and Exposure Activity Ratios (EARs) are presented. Water filtration plant samples were taken from Lake...

Nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and suspended-sediment (SS) loads, in Fairfax County, Virginia streams have been calculated using monitoring data from five intensively monitored watersheds for the period from water year (October - September) 2008-2017. Nutrient and suspended-sediment loads were computed using a surrogate (multiple-linear regression) approach with lab analyzed N, P, and SS samples as the response variable and basic water-quality parameters (e.g. turbidity, specific conductance, pH, water temperature), streamflow, and time and seasonal terms that could be measured continuously as predictor (surrogate) variables. The load results represent the total mass of N, P, and SS that was exported from each of...
