High resolution vegetation polygons mapped by the National Park Service. The National Park Service (NPS), in conjunction with the Biological Resources Division (BRD) of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), has implemented a program to develop a uniform hierarchical vegetation mapping methodology and classification at a national level and apply it to National Parks. The purpose of the data is to document the state of vegetation on Mt. Wanda at the John Muir National Historic Site during 2004, thereby providing a snapshot of conditions to assist in future monitoring and management. The vegetation units of this map were determined through visual interpretation of aerial photographs supported by field sampling. The vegetation...

The California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG) Vegetation Classification and Mapping Program (VegCAMP) and contractor Aerial Information Systems (AIS) created a fine-scale vegetation map of a portion of the western Mojave Desert in California. The mapped area is bounded to the west and south by USDA Ecoregional Subsection 322Ag of the Mojave Desert (Miles and Goudey 1997). To the east, the portion mapped by AIS (approx. 4,202,000 acres) is bounded by the borders of a vegetation map produced in 2004 for the Mojave Desert Ecosystem Program (MDEP). VegCAMP mapped a portion of the area mapped previously for the MDEP (approx. 776,000 acres) using the finer-scale rules and classification that AIS used for the larger...
This metadata is for the vegetation and land-use geo-spatial database for Minidoka National Historic Site (MIIN), Idaho and surrounding areas. This project is authorized as part of the USGS/NPS Vegetation Classification and Mapping Program. The program is being administered by the National Park Service's (NPS) Inventory and Monitoring Program in conjunction with the Biological Resources Division (BRD) of the United States Geological Survey (USGS). This mapping effort was performed by Cogan Technology Inc. (CTI) as a free service to the National Park Service.
This metadata is for the vegetation and land-use geo-spatial database for Pu'ukohola Heiau National Historic Site (PUHE) , Island of Hawai'i and surrounding areas. This project is authorized as part of the USGS/NPS Vegetation Inventory Program. The program is being administered by the National Park Service's (NPS) Inventory and Monitoring Program in conjunction with the Biological Resources Division (BRD) of the United States Geological Survey (USGS). This mapping effort was performed by Cogan Technology Inc. (CTI) under contract to the Pacific Island Inventory and Monitoring Network (UCBN) of the National Park Service.
The vegetation units on this map were determined through a series of image processing steps including unsupervised classification, ecological modeling and stereoscopic interpretation of aerial photographs supported by field sampling and ecological analysis. The vegetation boundaries were identified on the photographs by means of the photographic signature and collateral information on slope, hydrology, geography, and vegetation in accordance with the Standardized National Vegetation Classification System (October 1995). The mapped vegetation reflects conditions that existed during the specific year and season that the aerial photographs were taken. There is a margin of error inherent in the use of aerial photographs....
The geographic pattern in potential forest productivity (bolewood production) under current conditions was initially mapped over Oregon and Washington (Latta et al. 2009) based on statistical relationships between site index of USDA Forest Service forest Inventory and Analysis plots and PRISM climate data (i.e. interpolated meteorological station data). SAR_current is the result of that analysis with potential productivity in terms of gC/m2/yr of bolewood production. The same statistical relationships of climate to potential productivity were then used with downscaled climate data from General Circulation Models (800 m grid) to derive geographic patterns in potential forest productivity in 2100 (Latta et al. 2010).The...
The National Hydro Network (NHN), for which the standard was officially adopted by the Canadian Council on Geomatics (CCOG) in August 2004, focuses on providing a quality geometric description and a set of basic attributes describing Canada's inland surface waters. It provides geospatial vector data describing hydrographic features such as lakes, reservoirs, rivers, streams, canals, islands, obstacles (e.g. waterfalls, rapids, rocks in water) and constructions (e.g. dams, wharves, dikes), as well as a linear drainage network and the toponymic information (geographical names) associated to hydrography. The NHN forms the hydrographic layer of the GeoBase. The best available federal and provincial/territorial data are...
High resolution vegetation polygons mapped by the National Park Service. Vegetation at Lake Meredith National Recreation Area/Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument and environs was mapped and classified by a combination of field plot data collected in 2004 and photointerpreted from 1:12000 scale infrared aerial photography acquired in 2002. The protocols and standards used are those described in the National Vegetation Program documents.

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release contains tree-core, soil-gas, and soil data collected at the Vienna Wells Superfund site in Vienna, Missouri by the U.S. Geological Survey between 2011 and 2016. Concentrations of tetrachloroethylene (PCE) are reported for each sample in each medium. Tree-core sampling was conducted over two days (July 29, 2014 and May 21, 2015). Trees sampled on July 29, 2014 were used to calculate concentration centroids for each tree to compare with concentration centroids in soil samples. Tree 29 was sampled on May 21, 2015 to characterize and model tetrachloroethylene concentrations within a single tree. An interpolated soil surface was created from 1,016 soil samples (see doi:...

This data set includes the relative production scenarios for eight (8) grass species based on linear models from Epstein, et al. (1998). We selected two indicator species for each community: shortgrass prairie: blue grama (Bouteloua gracilis; BOGR) and buffalo grass (Bouteloua dactyloides; BODA); mixedgrass prairie: sideoats grama (Bouteloua curtipendula; BOCU) and little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium; SCSC); tallgrass prairie: big bluestem (Andropogon gerardii; ANGE) and Indiangrass (Sorghastrum nutans; SONU); and semiarid grasslands: black grama (Bouteloua eriopoda; BOER) and tobosagrass (Pleuraphis mutica; PLMU). Soil texture (percent by weight) came from the Earth Systems Science Center (2008) which provided...
This data release contains coastal wetland synthesis products for Massachusetts, developed in collaboration with the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management. Metrics for resiliency, including unvegetated to vegetated ratio (UVVR), marsh elevation, and tidal range are calculated for smaller units delineated from a digital elevation model, providing the spatial variability of physical factors that influence wetland health. The U.S. Geological Survey has been expanding national assessment of coastal change hazards and forecast products to coastal wetlands with the intent of providing Federal, State, and local managers with tools to estimate the vulnerability and ecosystem service potential of these wetlands....
