A sensitivity analysis of groundwater-recharge estimates from a water-budget model was completed for the islands of Oahu and Maui, Hawaii (Johnson and others, 2023). Results of the sensitivity analysis were used to quantify the relative importance of selected model parameters to recharge estimates for three moisture zones (dry, mesic, and wet) on Oahu and Maui. These shapefiles contain the boundaries of the moisture zones and boundaries of the model subareas that were used in the model simulations for Oahu and Maui. Attributes in the shapefiles include the names of the land-cover types assigned to model subareas and the mean annual recharge values determined for the model subareas for the baseline scenario of the...
Background The North Atlantic Coastal Plain (NACP) covers a land area of approximately 34,000 mi 2 along the eastern seaboard of the United States from Long Island, N.Y., southward to the northern portion of North Carolina. This area is underlain by a thick wedge of sedimentary deposits that form a complex groundwater system in which the sands and gravels function as confined aquifers, and the silts and clays function as confining units. These confined aquifers of the NACP constitute a major source of water for public and domestic supply for the nearly 27 million people living in the region, as well as being important source of water for industrial and agricultural purposes. Increases in population and changes...

This archive documents a Soil Water Balance (SWB) model of the The White River Basin, Washington and immediate surrounding environs. The SWB model is used to estimate surface processes of a water budget including precipitation, interception, evapotranspiration, surface runoff, etc. for the upper White River area from January 1999 - December 2020.
There is a growing interest in incorporating higher-resolution groundwater modeling within the framework of large-scale land surface models (LSMs), including new processes such as three- dimensional flow, variable soil saturation, and surface water/groundwater interactions. Conversely, complex groundwater models (e.g., the U.S. Geological Survey Groundwater-Flow Model, MODFLOW) often use simpler representations of land surface dynamics (e.g., surface vegetation, evapotranspiration, recharge) and may benefit from higher process fidelity and temporal resolutions in these inputs. This study investigates the potential of improving groundwater representation in LSMs and land surface dynamics in MODFLOW through coupling...
A two-dimensional, steady-state groundwater analytic-element flow model, GFLOW (version 2.2.3), was developed to provide a better understanding of the groundwater-surface water interactions of Crystal Lake, in the city of Crystal Lake, Illinois, in response to lowering an outlet weir during current, wet, and dry conditions. Three models were created and calibrated for average 2020 (current) conditions, wet (2017) conditions, and dry (2012) conditions with the current weir elevation and current steady-state stage-flows at the outlet weir. Simulations of groundwater and surface water responses surrounding the lake and lake-water budgets were run to understand the effects and influences of lowering the weir elevation...
This Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) GeoPackage (.gpkg) contains water-well point features and associated tables for the state of Oklahoma that have been reformatted based on a USGS profile of the OGC GroundWaterML2 (GWML2) standard (https://docs.ogc.org/is/19-013/19-013.html). The water-well records provided in this data set have not received additional processing or interpretation by the USGS beyond the GWML2 standardization. The National Water-Well Database (NWWDB) is a compilation of water-well records from state-managed databases that have been standardized to a common format for consistency across state and administrative boundaries. Water-well completion reports that are submitted to permitting state agencies...

Additionally, the water-well records have been quality-assured to remove or nullify parts of water-well records found to be erroneous or logically inconsistent, harmonized via the assignment of common data codes in the lithologic log, and supplemented with estimates of transmissivity from the analysis of specific-capacity data. The National Water-Well Database (NWWDB) is a compilation of water-well records from state-managed databases that...

Problem Statement More than nine million people rely on the New York City Water-Supply System for their daily-drinking water needs. Approximately 40 percent of this water comes from the Schoharie and Ashokan Reservoirs (fig. 1). This water is transported from the Catskill Area to New York City through Esopus Creek and a series of man-made tunnels and aqueducts built starting in the early 1900s (fig. 1). The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has been measuring streamflow continuously in the Upper and Lower Esopus Creeks for many decades. Specifically, streamflow has been measured in the Upper Esopus Creek at Coldbrook (station number 01362500) for about 80 years and in the Lower Esopus Creek at Mount Marion (station...

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release represents the Oklahoma component of the National Water-Well Database (NWWDB). The NWWDB is a compilation of water-well records from state-managed databases that have been standardized to a common format for consistency across state and administrative boundaries. Water-well completion reports that are submitted to permitting state agencies by licensed drillers constitute a large source of hydrogeologic information, including the locations and distribution of water wells, construction materials and completion depths, lithologic logs, groundwater levels, and the results of pumping or aquifer tests. Standardization was performed based on a USGS profile of the Open Geospatial...
The lakes, rivers, and streams of New York State provide an essential water resource for the State. The information provided by time series hydrologic data is essential to understanding ways to promote healthy instream ecology and to strengthen the scientific basis for sound water management decision making in New York. The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with The Nature Conservancy and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, has developed the New York Streamflow Estimation Tool to estimate a daily mean hydrograph for the period from October 1, 1960, to September 30, 2010, at ungaged locations across the State. The New York Streamflow Estimation Tool produces a complete estimated daily...
