This study deployed acoustic telemetry into a red swamp crayfish-infested water retention pond (1.0 ac) near Novi, Michigan to document the movements and behavior of telemetered red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii). Telemetry was setup in the pond for approximately 3 months. Spreadsheets include telemetry data with position estimates for individual crayfish.

To evaluate how bigheaded carps use a restored backwater habitat, their passages into and out of and residency within a backwater was monitored using acoustic telemetry. This dataset describes the results of this study and was used to compare activity of bigheaded carps between species, at a diel scale, among seasons, and how activity related of environmental conditions. Calculation of passages and residency are available in the thesis of Douglas Schultz (Southern Illinois University, 2006). http://fishdata.siu.edu/schultz.pdf

While recording fish habitat use via electronic sensors, biologgers can also be viewed as autonomous environmental monitoring systems with the organism as a vehicle. This dual perspective has provided novel results from marine ecosystems but has not been applied to freshwater ecosystems. To understand limitations in freshwater, we evaluated miniature depth and temperature recorders, as aquatic monitoring systems in Lake Erie. As part of an acoustic telemetry study, biologgers were implanted in a subsample of walleye, Sander vitreus in 2014. Biologgers were equipped with sensors capable of measuring water temperature and depth at half-hour intervals for up to a year. Recaptures provided six biologgers for analysis...

Adaptive efforts to achieve water quality objectives by modifying nutrient loading can have attendant impacts on fish habitats and fisheries. Thus, coordinating fishery and water quality management depends on knowledge of fish behavioral responses to habitat change. This data set aims to reduce these knowledge gaps by combining acoustic telemetry detections of a native demersal fish, lake whitefish (Coregonus clupeaformis), along with forecasted abiotic water quality parameters (e.g., temperature and dissolved oxygen) throughout Lake Erie during periods of seasonal hypoxia. Lake whitefish were tagged throughout 2015-2017. Detection locations of tagged lake whitefish were recorded throughout 2017-2018, using the...

The dataset and accompanying analysis scripts accompany the article "Bayesian multistate models allow incorporation of spatial dynamics to improve invasive species management". The data are summarized detections from acoustic telemetry receivers (69 KHz) from 353 silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) and 170 bighead carp (H. nobilis) surgically implanted with transmitters in the Illinois River, USA. The analysis scripts assess probability of detection, probability of monthly movement between navigation pools on the river, probability of apparent survival, and probability of operable transmitter battery through a Bayesian multistate hidden Markov model.
This dataset was used to evaluate bigheaded carp movement (net and total) between the upper and lower Illinois River and to create a multistate model in Program MARK to estimate movement probabilities among river pools.

This dataset contains the capture histories for juvenile green (Chelonia mydas) and hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata) sea turtles tagged with an acoustic telemetry tag between 2012 and 2017. It contains information on how many days had passed since the tag was attached and whether or not the tag was still attached upon recapture. This dataset thus allows estimation of acoustic tag retention rates for these two species of sea turtle in our study site at Buck Island Reef National Monument (BIRNM), St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI).

An acoustic telemetry receiver was mounted on a gliding robotic fish, a novel type of autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) during a series of field trials in a freshwater lake. Like underwater gliders, gliding robotic fish (dubbed GRACE, for Gliding-Robot-ACE) achieve locomotion primarily through buoyancy-driven gliding or spiraling. They are also equipped with an active tail fin that can provide extra propulsion (e.g., “swimming” against current), act as a rudder to improve steering during glide/spiral, and improve maneuverability via asymmetrical flapping (e.g., tight turns on the surface or during gliding). Consequently, gliding robotic fish combine the energy-efficient nature of underwater gliders with the high-maneuverability...

This dataset accompanies the article "Upstream experience and experimental translocation of invasive bigheaded carps results in increased upstream passage success at a navigation lock in a large river". The data come from the experimental capture and tagging of invasive bigheaded carp with acoustic transmitters and physically moving some groups farther downstream. These transmitters emit signals that are detected and recorded on receivers that are strategically placed above, within, and below Mississippi River Lock and Dam 19 (LD 19). Once the data from the receivers were downloaded, we could show when successful upstream passage through LD19 occurs and compare the origin of the fish and the physical characteristics...
To evaluate how bigheaded carps move upstream through and around Starved Rock Lock and Dam (SRLD) on the Illinois River, their movements were monitored using acoustic telemetry. This dataset describes the results of this study and was used to compare the residency duration of upstream migrants downstream of SRLD between years, tailwater elevation, and water temperature, and how tailwater elevation and water temperature influenced their timing of arrival downstream of SRLD. Calculation of passage and residency are available in the thesis of Matthew Lubejko (Southern, Illinois University, 2016).

Data on the detection range and efficiency of VR2W-69 kHz acoustic receivers (Innovasea Marine Systems Canada Inc., Bedford, Nova Scotia, Canada; https://www.vemco.com/) were collected to guide the development of telemetry studies of the Clear Lake Hitch (Lavinia exilicauda chi), an imperiled fish species endemic to Clear Lake, Lake County, California. The study took place June 21, 2021 through July 01, 2021. Receivers we deployed at distances of 0m, 25m, 50m, 100m, 200m, and 300m from a sentinel test tag. The test tag was deployed for 20 minutes and emitted signals approximately 6-7 times per minute. Data recorded included the total number of signals emitted by the test tag and the number of those signals that...
