The Niobrara River is a National Scenic River in northern Nebraska. The Niobrara River is characterized by a sand channel with areas of gravel and bedrock. Bathymetric and topographic surveys were completed at five sites (Norden, Meadville, Mariaville, Spencer, and Niobrara) on the Niobrara River in August 2020. The bathymetric data were collected using Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs) attached to kayaks. The ADCP data were collected on transects and between the transects following the flow of the river at each site. Topographic data including water surface elevations were collected with survey grade Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). A temporary reference point was established at each of...

In 2016, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) started collecting high-resolution multibeam echosounder (MBES) data on Lake Koocanusa. The survey originated near the International Boundary (River Mile (RM) 271.0) and extended down the reservoir, hereinafter referred to as downstream, about 1.4 miles downstream of the Montana 37 Highway Bridge near Boulder Creek (about RM 253). USACE continued the survey in 2017, completing a reach that extended from about RM 253 downstream to near Tweed Creek (RM 244.5). In 2018, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Idaho Water Science Center completed the remaining portion of the reservoir from RM 244.5 downstream to Libby Dam (RM 219.9). The MBES data collected in 2016 and 2017...

These data consist of rectified aerial photographs, measurements of active channel width, measurements of river and floodplain bathymetry and topography, and ancillary data. These data are specific to the corridor of the Colorado River in Canyonlands National Park between Potash, Utah and the confluence of the Green and Colorado Rivers near Spanish Bottom, Utah. The time period for these data are 1940 to 2018. The shapefile data are measurements of features of the active river channel and floodplains of the Colorado River. The raster data are aerial images and digital elevation models (DEMs) for segments of the Colorado River in Canyonlands National Park, Utah. The aerial images depict the river channel and adjacent...
These data were compiled for/to National Park Service and Upper Colorado River Endangered Fish Recovery Program. Objective(s) of our study were to resurvey previously established cross sections on the Green River, Utah, in, and upstream, from Ouray National Wildlife Refuge to document changes in channel width, depth, and cross-sectional area. These data represent the 2020 resurvey coordinates and elevations of previously established cross sections (1994 - 1996) on the Green River. These data were collected in the Green River between Jensen and Ouray, Utah from October 11-16, 2020. These data were collected by Ronald Griffiths and Joel Unema from the U.S. Geological Survey using real-time kinematic (RTK) GPS positioning....
This portion of the USGS data release presents digital elevation models (DEMs) derived from bathymetric and topographic surveys conducted along northern Monterey Bay, California, in March 2015 (USGS Field Activity Number 2015-625-FA). Nearshore bathymetry data were collected using two personal watercraft (PWCs) equipped with single-beam echosounders and survey-grade global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers. Topography data were collected using an all-terrain vehicle equipped with a GNSS receiver and on foot with GNSS receivers mounted on backpacks. Additional topography data were collected with a terrestrial lidar scanner. Positions of the survey platforms were referenced to a GNSS base station placed...
This data release presents eelgrass distributions and bathymetry data derived from acoustic surveys of Bellingham Bay, Washington. Survey operations were conducted between February 16 and February 21, 2019 (USGS Field Activity Number 2019-606-FA) by a team of scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center and Washington State Department of Ecology. This portion of the USGS data release presents digital elevation models (DEMs) derived from bathymetric and topographic surveys conducted on the Elwha River delta, Washington, in July 2016 (USGS Field Activity Number 2016-653-FA). Nearshore bathymetry data were collected using two personal watercraft (PWCs) and a kayak equipped with single-beam echosounders and survey-grade global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers. Topography data were collected on foot with survey-grade GNSS receivers mounted on backpacks. Positions of the survey platforms were referenced to a GNSS base station placed on a benchmark with known horizontal and vertical coordinates relative to the North American Datum of 1983 (CORS96 realization)...

Structure-from-Motion (SfM) surface models were created using seafloor video collected over a visible fault scarp in the Channel Islands, California, during a 2016 U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) field activity. Four SfM surface models were created, each with a different combination of locating, scaling, and optimizing methods. Video imagery was collected using the USGS Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center's BOBSled, equipped with high-definition (720p) video cameras (video published in Coastal and Marine Geology Program video and photo portal, Golden and others, 2015). The sled was towed behind the R/V Shearwater and shipboard GPS locations were recorded every 1 second in the video's audio channel. The models...
This data release contains gridded bathymetry data from repeated multibeam sonar surveys and input files for a hydrodynamic and sediment transport model application of the mouth of the Columbia River (MCR), Oregon and Washington. The bathymetry data were collected by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Portland District Surveys Section between September 9, 2020, and March 10, 2021, to characterize the morphology and dispersal of a nearshore berm composed of 216,000 m3 of sand-sized sediment that was dredged from the MCR navigation channel and placed on the northern flank of the ebb-tidal delta in water depths between 12 and 15 m. Observations of berm morphology were compared with predictions from a three-dimensional...

These data are digital hillshades of the bathymetry for five (of six) sites where known rock structures exist in the St. Croix River. Hillshades are shaded relief surfaces created by the illumination source angle and shadows, and are being used to investigate the use of hydroacoustic technologies for quantifying habitat for imperiled mussels Spectaclecase (Margaritifera monodonta) and Salamander (Simpsonaias ambigua) typically associated with rock structures (e.g., wing dams, revetment) in rivers. Hillshades are essential for visualizing details of underwater terrain and it represents a shaded relief surface of the topography. Multibeam sonar data were collected using a Norbit integrated wide band multibeam system...

This data release contains model inputs used to estimate surface water greenhouse gas fluxes from two large arid reservoirs, Lake Powell and Lake Mead. The release also contains empirical, spatially explicit water quality and greenhouse gas data from a single field survey conducted in Lake Powell in July of 2017. Finally, this release contains surface area estimates of shallow (< 15m) tributary regions of Lake Powell under different water level scenarios.

The Carr Fire ignited in northern California on July 23, 2018, and over the following six weeks burned almost 300,000 acres (approximately half on federal lands), resulting in a federal major-disaster declaration (DR-4382). Approximately 93 percent of the area within Whiskeytown National Recreation Area was burned extensively during the Carr Fire, including all of the landscape surrounding and draining into Whiskeytown Lake. Whiskeytown Lake, a federally managed reservoir, therefore acted as a sediment trap for material eroded from hillslopes and streambeds in the aftermath of the Carr Fire. The U.S. Geological Survey has measured topographic change associated with sediment deposition and erosion in and around Whiskeytown...
