Geologists from the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) and University of Alaska carried out a two-part geologic mapping and geochemical sampling project in the Tok River area of the Tanacross A-5 and A-6 quadrangles (June 12-26 and July 8-26). The Tok River area is adjacent to the Delta mineral belt volcanogenic massive-sulfide (VMS) district, the Peak gold-silver-copper skarn, and the structurally controlled gold and antimony mineralization in the Stibnite Creek and White Gold areas. The Tok River project area includes the Noah (also called Hona) prospect, an intrusion-related copper prospect. This data release presents 40Ar/39Ar step-heating geochronology results from rocks collected roughly 7 km southwest of Contact Point, Iliamna B-3 Quadrangle. Samples obtained from a felsic dike intruding the principal Bruin Bay fault plane near Contact Point produced biotite and plagioclase 40Ar/39Ar ages of 36.5 +/- 0.8 Ma and 31.5+/-0.7 Ma, respectively. The age dates inform stratigraphic, structural, and geochronologic studies along the western margin of lower Cook Inlet basin. The accompanying report also presents zircon U-Pb LA-ICP-MS geochronology results for dikes near Ursus Head.

Electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) surveys were collected in April 2015 to support hydrogeologic characterization of the alluvial aquifer and to assess the suitability of larger-scale airborne geophysics. For this investigation, five sites were surveyed with ERT methods. At each site three surveys were collected, including dipole-dipole, Schlumberger, and inverse Schlumberger configurations. For each survey a total of 56 electrodes spaced 5-meters (m) apart were used. During the ERT measurement, current is injected through two current electrodes and voltage is measured sequentially across multiple pairs of potential electrodes, which is used to determine the apparent resistivity of the subsurface. This raster depicts the percentage of lithological phosphorus pentoxide (P2O5) content in surface or near surface geology. We derived these rasters by calculating the average percent P2O5 content for each map unit in combined surficial-bedrock geologic maps. We used state geologic maps (Preliminary Integrated Geologic Map Databases for the United States, Open File Reports 2004-1355, 2005-1305, 2005-1323, 2005-1324, 2005-1325, 2005-1351, and 2006-1272), which depict surficial geology instead of bedrock when the surficial layers are sufficiently deep. The Arizona Geological Survey (AZGS) is committed to making its geologic products freely available online to a variety of consumers of geologic information and data. To this end, AZGS proposed two projects under the 2021-2022 National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program (NGGDPP) to increase the availability of its data. First, AZGS converted 32 of its older geologic maps that existed only as PDF scans into modern digital geodatabases. Each of these preserved maps was then archived and re-published at the National Digital Catalog, University of Arizona Campus Repository, Arizona Geological Survey Repository, and National Geologic Map Database. This report provides detailed (1:63,360-scale) mapping of the Tanana A-1 and A-2 quadrangles (500 square miles; equivalent to eight 7.5-minute quadrangles). The area is part of the Manley Hot Springs-Tofty mining districts and adjacent to the Rampart mining district to the south of the Tanana B-1 Quadrangle. This report includes detailed bedrock, structural, and stratigraphic data. The Tanana A-1 and A-2 Quadrangles and surrounding area comprise several isolated mountainous ridges in the western Yukon-Tanana Upland of interior Alaska.

In April 2015, a total of 34 passive seismic surveys were conducted in the Cedar River Floodplain. The horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio (HVSR) method is a passive seismic technique that uses a three-component seismometer to measure the vertical and horizontal components of ambient seismic noise. Seismic noise in the range of approximately 0.1 to 1 Hertz (Hz) is caused by ocean waves, large regional storms, and tectonic sources. A resonance frequency (f0) is induced in the unconsolidated deposits when there is a substantial contrast (greater than 2:1) in shear-wave acoustic impedance between the overburden and the bedrock. Accurate, high-resolution maps of bedrock outcrops are extremely valuable. The increasing availability of high-resolution imagery can be coupled with machine learning techniques to improve regional bedrock maps. This data release contains training data created for developing a machine learning model capable of identifying exposed bedrock across the entire Sierra Nevada Mountains (California, USA). The training data consist of 20 thematic rasters in GeoTIFF format, where image labels represent three categories: rock, not rock, and no data. 40Ar/39Ar analyses of igneous rocks from the Alaska Highway corridor between Delta Junction and the Canada border show a range of Cretaceous ages from about 68 Ma to about 112 Ma. The 25 samples fall into two broad age groups. The younger group ranges from about 68 Ma to 73 Ma; the older group ranges from a minimum age of about 84 Ma to about 103 Ma. One sample, a mafic dike, yielded an older age of about 112 Ma.

Mineral-resources personnel from the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys carried out a geological field survey, including mapping and sampling, in the eastern part of the Bonnifield mining district in the Fairbanks A-1 and A-2, and the Healy D-1 and D-2 quadrangles, Alaska, from June 16 through July 18, 2008. This report presents 40Ar/39Ar step-heating geochronology results for igneous and metamorphic rocks from the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys' (DGGS) geologic mapping project in the Tanacross A-5 and A-6 quadrangles and adjoining areas. Our results indicate the Hona granodiorite pluton intruded the area in the Late Cretaceous between 76 and 71 Ma. We determined Cretaceous metamorphic ages from 126 to 121 Ma for hornblende, biotite, sericite and muscovite from multiple samples of upper greenschist to amphibolite grade rocks. This report presents 40Ar/39Ar step-heating geochronology results from a single outcrop of a mineralized near-trench intrusion exposed in a road cut near Whittier, Alaska. The outcrop is the best road-accessible occurrence of a Tertiary near-trench pluton in the region and is commonly visited by field trips, yet no prior geochronological data from this outcrop have been published. Two chronologically distinct intrusive bodies, the Paleogene Sanak-Baranof belt and the Eshamy-suite, are documented in the upper Cook Inlet area. Samples were collected from Turnagain Arm (mile 104 Seward Highway), Whittier, Crow Pass, and Panorama Mountain (roughly mile 217 Parks Highway).
