This data release includes data and metadata on litterfall rates, foliar nitrogen and carbon, grass biomass, soil nitrogen and carbon, and native outplant survival rates for an experiment that added large quantities of woody litter to a restoration forest in an attempt to lower soil nitrogen and exotic grass biomass. All sites were within Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge on Hawaii Island. Broadly, this study looked at the ability to alter soil nitrogen cycling, exotic grass biomass and native outplant survival with large quantities of Metrosideros polymorpha litter in a forest dominated by Acacia koa.
This data release includes data and metadata on litterfall rates of the two dominant canopy trees (Metrosideros polymorpha and Acacia koa) in a restoration forest in Hawaii. All sites were within Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge on Hawaii Island. Broadly, this study looked at the ability to alter soil nitrogen cycling, exotic grass biomass and native outplant survival with large quantities of Metrosideros polymorpha litter in a forest dominated by Acacia koa.

These data were compiled for monitoring riparian zone trends and changes in the Lower Colorado Delta as part of the Minute 139 of the 1944 Water Treaty between the United States and Mexico. The quality and quantity of the Delta’s riparian and aquatic ecosystems have been dramatically reduced over the past century, due largely to significant alterations to natural hydrologic and sediment regimes. Invasive-plant treatments often target a single or few species, but many landscapes are diversely invaded. Exotic annual grasses (EAGs) increase wildfires and degrade native perennial plant communities in cold-desert rangelands, and herbicides are thus sprayed to inhibit EAG germination and establishment. During 2018, uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs or 'drones') were used to collect spatially referenced aerial imagery from 20 management units (sites) enrolled in the Phragmites Adaptive Management Framework, a collective learning program developed by the Great Lakes Phragmites Collaborative. Santa Rosa Island, part of Channel Islands National Park off the coast of California, has a undergone a history of ecologic degradation due to introduced ungulate grazing for ranching (cattle and sheep) and hunting (deer and elk) purposes. Grazing in many parts of the island has resulted in widespread vegetation loss and subsequent erosion presumably causing changes in infiltration/runoff relations. This dataset provides information on plant sexual reproduction of a clonally-spreading perennial species, Spartina alterniflora. We investigated flowering phenology, potential seed and seedling production, and flower damage in reference and restored sites in southeastern Louisiana. The U.S. Geological Survey provides a wide range of scientific information to an even wider group of stakeholders. Understanding what capacities are needed and if and or where these capacities exist across the USGS landscape is critical in moving science to the next level of use, implementation, and visualization. The concept behind the groups organized to conduct and interpret the survey that collected these data took advantage of the USGS’s position as a science organization with expertise spanning a wide range of science disciplines, stakeholders, and responsibilities. We developed habitat suitability models for three invasive plant species: stiltgrass (Microstegium vimineum), sericea lespedeza (Lespedeza cuneata), and privet (Ligustrum sinense). We applied the modeling workflow developed in Young et al. 2020, developing similar models for occurrence data, but also models trained using species locations with percent cover ≥10%, ≥25%, and ≥50%. We chose predictors from a national library of environmental variables known to physiologically limit plant distributions (Engelstad et al. 2022 Table S1) and relied on human input based on natural history knowledge to further narrow the variable set for each species before developing habitat suitability models. These data were compiled to assess potential impacts of altered operations of Glen Canyon Dam on riparian plant resources. Objective(s) of our study were to quantify potential responses of specific vegetation metrics. These data represent predicted changes in vegetation metrics based on the data in the Interim Guidelines and LTEMP_SEIS folders. These data were collected in Grand Canyon and Glen Canyon below the dam from 2014-2019. These data were collected by USGS SBSC scientists through ground-based vegetation surveys. These data can be used to predict responses of vegetation metrics only to the specific alterations to dam operations that were simulated.

The Yellowknife Study Area (YSA),Northwest Territories, Canada, was established in 1961 by H. W. Murdy, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, for the study of wetland and waterfowl ecology. The study area is located on the western edge of the Precambrian Shield and edge of the taiga and is recognized for its high wetland densities and waterfowl abundance. The region is underlain by discontinuous, warm permafrost and hence vulnerable to a warming climate.
