The Integrated Scenarios of the Future Northwest Environment project (an FY2012 NW CSC funded project), resulted in several datasets describing projected changes in climate, hydrology and vegetation for the 21st century over the Northwestern US. The raw data is available in netCDF format, which is a standard data file format for weather forecasting/climate change/GIS applications. However, the sheer size of these datasets and the specific file format (netCDF) for data access pose significant barriers to data access for many users. This is a particular challenge for many natural/cultural resource managers and others working on conservation efforts in the Pacific Northwest. The goal of this project was to increase...

This dataset contains the daily average base flow, as determined by hydrograph separation, for 14 watersheds in Gwinnett County, Georgia for October 2001 through September 2020. Hydrograph separations were done using the Web-based Hydrograph Analysis Tool (WHAT) using the simple local minimum method on the daily average streamflows, which are also provided in this dataset. Base flow along with the calculated base-flow index (the proportion of base flow to total flow) were used to characterize groundwater recharge and the relative degree of storm runoff in the watersheds. Base flow was also used as predictor variable in models for estimating streamwater constituent loads for 12 water-quality constituents at 13 of...

A comma separated values (csv) file of data used to support attribution of trends and change points in annual peak streamflows observed at gages in the Northeast region. The file includes USGS gage identification and location information, developed land cover and basin storage data, correlation results between annual peak magnitudes and precipitation and Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI), and trend and change point results for precipitation and PDSI.

In 2021, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program, cataloged and scanned notes and calculations for indirect measurements taken during flood events in Montana. This product provides a publicly available catalog of the field notes, photos, survey information, and calculations for indirect measurements at selected sites. Indirect measurements are surveyed by the USGS after floods by identifying high water marks along rivers indicating the maximum stream stage. These high water marks are used to estimate the peak discharge through standardized methods. Estimates of peak streamflow from the indirect estimates were were added to the National...

Human factors that influence water availability in the Basin were discovered by reviewing hundreds of published literature items and articles from the literature following an extensive keyword search. The different factors were drawn from reviewing the literature and datasets to support the factor were researched across open data catalogs and the world wide web.

A rich legacy of geochemical data produced since the early 1960s covers the great expanse of Alaska; careful treatment of such data may provide significant and revealing geochemical maps that may be used for landscape geochemistry, mineral resource exploration, and geoenvironmental investigations over large areas. To maximize the spatial density and extent of data coverage for statewide mapping of element distributions, we compiled and integrated analyses of more than 175,000 sediment and soil samples from three major, separate sources: the U.S. Geological Survey, the National Uranium Resource Evaluation program, and the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys geochemical databases. Various types of...

The lake and reservoir water-quality data were compiled from Water Quality Portal (https://www.waterqualitydata.us/) (National Water Quality Monitoring Council, 2015), USGS’s NAWQA Project’s data compilation (Oelsner and others, 2017) and the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology (Montana Bureau of Mines, 2021), The compilation contains data for chloride, pH, specific conductance, sulfate, total dissolved solids (TDS) collected between water year 1970 to 2014. In addition 10 metals (aluminum, arsenic, barium, chromium, copper, iron, lead, selenium strontium, and zinc) analyzed during water years 1993 through 2014. National Water-Quality Monitoring Council, 2015, Water Quality Portal: National Water-Quality Monitoring...

Upper Plains (UP) Region. The U.S. Geological Survey Dakota Water Science Center, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, is analyzing annual peak-flow data to determine if trends are present and provide attribution of trends where possible. This dataset contains four core comma separated values (csv) files (50-year monotonic, 75-year monotonic, 50-year change point, and 75-change point). Each of the four core csv files includes the USGS gage identifier, various statistical values, primary and secondary attribution, level of evidence, and comments/citations. The comments/citations column should include any sources, in addition to the statistical values in the csv, that were needed to decide on the...

Southwest (SW) Region. The U.S. Geological Survey Dakota Water Science Center, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, is analyzing annual peak-flow data to determine if trends are present and provide attribution of trends where possible. This dataset contains comma separated value (csv) files to support the attribution of changes in peak streamflow in the southwestern U.S. to changes in precipitation, temperature, and timing of peak runoff. The peak streamflow is the maximum instantaneous flow during a water year from October 1st to September 30th of the next year. The dataset contains results for only the streamgages that were identified to have significant trends and change points for periods...

The U.S. Geological Survey collected groundwater samples from 38 wells used for domestic and small system drinking water supply in the Coachella Valley of California in 2020. The wells were sampled for the Coachella Valley Basin (CODA) Domestic Aquifer Study Unit of the California State Water Resources Control Board Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment (GAMA) Program Priority Basin Project’s assessment of the quality of groundwater resources used for domestic and small system drinking water supplies. Coachella Valley is located in the Desert hydrogeologic province (Johnson and Belitz, 2003) and is structurally divided into four subbasins by the San Andreas fault: the Indio subbasin, the Mission Creek subbasin,...

This child item model archive summary documents a surrogate regression model to estimate suspended-sediment concentration (SSC) at the Mohawk River above State Highway 30A at Fonda, New York. (U.S. Geological Survey station number 01349527). The methods used follow USGS guidance in relevant Office of Surface Water/Office of Water Quality Technical Memoranda and USGS Techniques and Methods, book 3, chap. 4 (Rasmussen and others, 2009). Thirty-nine concurrent measurements of SSC and turbidity, collected from June 12, 2015, through May 28, 2020, were used in the model calibration dataset. Samples were collected across 94 percent of the range in observed discharge and 24 percent of the range in observed turbidity during...
