The elevation contours in this dataset have a 2-foot (ft) interval and were derived from a digital elevation model (DEM) of beach topography and near-shore bathymetry of Lake Superior at the Duluth entry, Duluth, Minnesota. The DEM has a 5-meter (m; 16.404 feet) cell size and was created from a LAS dataset of terrestrial light detection and ranging (lidar) data representing the beach topography, and multibeam sonar data representing the bathymetry. The survey area extended approximately 0.85 kilometer (0.5 miles) offshore, for an approximately 1.87 square kilometer surveyed area. Lidar data were collected September 23, 2020 using a boat mounted Velodyne unit. Multibeam sonar data were collected September 22-23,...

This dataset consists of two files containing northing, easting, and elevation ("XYZ") information for light detection and ranging (lidar) data representing the beach and near-shore topography of Minnesota Point near the Superior Entry of Lake Superior, Duluth, Minnesota. The point data is the same as that in the LAS dataset used to create a digital elevation model (DEM) of the approximately 2.27 square kilometer surveyed area. Lidar data were collected using a boat mounted Velodyne unit. Multibeam sonar data were collected using a Norbit integrated wide band multibeam system compact (iWBMSc) sonar unit. Single-beam sonar data were collected using a Ceescope sonar unit. All elevation data were collected September...
The Louisiana State Legislature created the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) in order to conserve, restore, create and enhance Louisiana's coastal wetlands. The wetland restoration plans developed pursuant to these acts specifically require an evaluation of the effectiveness of each coastal wetlands restoration project in achieving long-term solutions to arresting coastal wetlands loss. This data set includes mosaicked aerial photographs for the South Lake Lery Shoreline and Marsh Restoration (BS-16) project for 2012 and 2018. This data is used as a basemap land-water classification. It also serves as a visual tool for project managers to help them identify any obvious problems...
This data set includes mosaicked aerial photographs for the Shell Island East Barrier Island Restoration (BA-0110) project both pre and post-construction for 2013. This data is used as a basemap habitat classification. If repeated, it can also serve as a visual tool for project managers to help them identify any obvious problems or land loss within their project boundary. To better evaluate the effectiveness of restoration efforts, a habitat classification was performed on specific projects to help assess landscape changes. High-resolution elevation data provide a foundational layer needed to understand regional hydrology and ecology under contemporary and future-predicted conditions with accelerated sea-level rise. While the development of digital elevation models (DEMs) from light detection and ranging data has enhanced the ability to observe elevation in coastal zones, the elevation error can be substantial in densely vegetated coastal wetlands. In response, we developed a machine learning model to reduce vertical error in coastal wetlands for a 1-m DEM from 2018 that covered Nassau and Duval Counties, Florida. Error was reduced by using a random forest regression model within situ observations and predictor variables from optical...
Topography provides information about the structural controls of the Great Basin and therefore information that may be used to identify favorable structural settings for geothermal systems. Specifically, local relative topography gives information about locations of faults and fault intersections relative to mountains, valleys, or at the transitions between. As part of U.S. Geological Survey efforts to engineer features that are useful for predicting geothermal resources, we construct a detrended elevation map that emphasizes local relative topography and highlights features that geologists use for identifying geothermal systems (i.e., providing machine learning algorithms with features that may improve predictive...

The High Resolution National Hydrography Dataset Plus (NHDPlus HR) is an integrated set of geospatial data layers, including the best available National Hydrography Dataset (NHD), the 10-meter 3D Elevation Program Digital Elevation Model (3DEP DEM), and the National Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD). The NHDPlus HR combines the NHD, 3DEP DEMs, and WBD to create a stream network with linear referencing, feature naming, "value added attributes" (VAAs), elevation-derived catchments, and other features for hydrologic data analysis. The stream network with linear referencing is a system of data relationships applied to hydrographic systems so that one stream reach "flows" into another and "events" can be tied to and traced...
