Habitat selection studies can make important contributions to habitat prioritization efforts for species of conservation concern. We present a large-scale collaborative effort to develop habitat selection models for Greater Sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) across large landscapes (Wyoming, USA) and multiple seasons. Greater Sage-grouse are limited to western semi-arid landscapes in North America, range-wide population declines have been documented, and the species is currently listed a “warranted but precluded” from listing under the U.S. Endangered Species Act. Wyoming is predicted to remain a stronghold for Sage-grouse populations and contains approximately 37% of the remaining birds. We developed Resource...

In 30 surveys, we mapped 21,486 birds comprising 88 species “interact with” the intertidal habitat. Each full “survey” represents a unique month-year-tide combination (but not necessarily a unique day). Specifically, for each of 15 months between January 2012 and March 2013 we conducted separate, but temporally adjacent high-tide and low-tide bird surveys (30 in total) throughout the intertidal habitats. Back to back surveys within the same month are not meant to be independent measures of bird abundance and should be averaged to get an idea of bird abundance in a particular month. Birds were counted if they were in the intertidal habitat. We also counted some species, like raptors, if they were perched in adjacent...

This dataset presents current and future change agent models and combined future potential for change (PFC) within big game seasonal ranges. The big game seasonal ranges extent was determined by aggregating datasets on seasonal ranges of several big game species (Elk, Mule Deer, Pronghorn, and Bighorn Sheep). Seasonal ranges include winter, crucial winter, crucial summer, and parturition areas. Data were obtained from state natural resource agencies (Colorado Parks and Wildlife) and the BLM.This dataset presents current and future change agent models and combined future potential for climate change (PFC). Potential for change (PFC) was determined by calculating the maximum potential for change among all change agents...

GunnSageGrouseWinterRange is an ESRI SDE Feature Class showing observed winter range of Gunnisons Sage-Grouse. This information was derived from field personnel. A variety of data capture techniques were used including drawing on mylar overlays at 1:50,000 scale USGS county mapsheets and implementation of the SmartBoard Interactive Whiteboard using stand-up, real-time digitizing at various scales (Cowardin, M., M. Flenner. March 2003. Maximizing Mapping Resources. GeoWorld 16(3):32-35). Dataset was acquired from a third party distributor who obtained it from CDOW in January 2011. The authoritative data source is available on ArcGIS.com (http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=1bab23cd9f274742ae1e38afa6e6c44f) and...

This data set is comprised of a potential distribution model for the Grassland Bird Assemblage within the Northwestern Plains Ecoregion. Observations used in maxent were from 1990 - present and during the months of May - September (birds only). The assemblage includes Baird's sparrow, chestnut-collared longspur, McCown's longspur, Sprague's Pipit and one non bird species, swift fox. Observations for swiftfox related to road kill were removed from the observations. The moderate and optimal maxent model threshold for WYNDD was extracted for each species in the assemblage and overlaid to show where multiple species values overlap. 1 = one species, 5 = all 5 species optimal habitat overlapping.

GrSageGrouseSevereWinterRange is an ESRI SDE Feature Class showing coverage for severe winter range for Sage Grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus). Severe Winter Range is defined as that part of the winter range where 90% of the individuals are located when annual snowpack is at its maximum and/or temperatures are at a minimum in the two worst winters out of ten. This data set is comprised of a potential distribution model for the ferruginous hawk within the Northwestern Plains Ecoregion. Observations used in maxent were from 1990 - present. This dataset was reclassed to show only the low, moderate and optimal maxent data based on the MT/Threshold thresholds.

It was reclassified to combine the maxent output for the low, moderate and optimal thresholds into one class (1).

This data showswhere the largest patches of grassland occur in thisecoregion that are not currently affected by known anthropogenic disturbances. To complete this analysis, the GAP landcover was extracted out to the extent of the assemblage with Maxent output as the startingpoint. Once this extraction was complete, all anthropogenic features were removed and contiguous pixelsof grassland were then grouped and categorized into the metrics.1=good, 2=fair, 3=poor

The GIS shapefile Extra limit counts of southern sea otters 2019 is a point layer representing the locations of sea otter sightings that fall outside the officially recognized range of the southern sea otter (Enhydra lutris nereis) in mainland California. These data were collected during the spring 2019 range-wide census. The USGS range-wide sea otter census has been undertaken each year since 1982, using consistent methodology involving both ground-based and aerial-based counts. The spring census provides the primary basis for gauging population trends by State and Federal management agencies. Sea otter distribution in California (the mainland range) is considered to comprise a band of potential habitat stretching...
