This dataset represents results from this study attributed to the NHDPlus V2 catchments. Changes in climate occurring throughout the Mississippi River Basin are expected to lead to additional impacts in stream habitats and fish assemblages in multiple ways, including changing changing thermal properties and flow regimes. To manage streams for current impacts and future changes, managers need region-wide information for decision-making and developing proactive management strategies. Our project provides a suite of climate metrics that have been found to be relevant to the distribution and population structure of aquatic organisms in freshwater stream networks. These results provide natural resource managers, decision-makers,...

This shapefile contains fish habitat condition index (HCI) scores as well as specific disturbance indices for 6th level Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC12) watersheds of the Watershed Boundary Dataset. The source datasets compiled and attributed to spatial units were identified as being: (1) meaningful for assessing fluvial fish habitat; (2) consistent across the entire study area in the way that they were assembled; (3) broadly representative of conditions in the past 10 years, and (4) of sufficient spatial resolution that they could be used to make valid comparisons among HUC12 units. In this data set, variable summaries are linked to HUC12 watersheds developed for the Watershed Boundary Dataset downloaded on March 18,...

This dataset was created to support the Washington D.C. StreamStats project funded by the Washington D.C. Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE). The dataset contains digital elevation model (DEM), flow direction and catchment layers that were conditioned using Washingtons D.C.’s stormwater network layer. The data are hosted online as a component of the USGS StreamStats web application (https://streamstats.usgs.gov), where users can interact with a map of Washington D.C.’s stormwater pipe system and National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) “best resolution” blue lines to delineate drainage basins that account for pipe flow. This project utilized 1-meter (high resolution) terrain products, which improves upon existing...
This shapefile contains cumulative fish habitat condition index (HCI) scores as well as specific disturbance indices for local and network catchments of Southeast Alaska. Catchments were created in support of Jared Ross's Master’s thesis. The source datasets compiled and attributed to spatial units were identified as being: (1) meaningful for assessing fluvial fish habitat; (2) consistent across the entire study area in the way that they were assembled; (3) broadly representative of conditions in the past 10 years, and (4) of sufficient spatial resolution that they could be used to make valid comparisons among local catchment units. This dataset represents results from this study attributed to the Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC) 12 watershed boundaries. Human impacts occurring throughout the Northeast and Midwest United States, including urbanization, agriculture, and dams, have multiple effects on the region’s streams which support economically valuable stream fishes. Changes in climate are expected to lead to additional impacts in stream habitats and fish assemblages in multiple ways, including changing stream water temperatures. To manage streams for current impacts and future changes, managers need region-wide information for decision-making and developing proactive management strategies. Our project met that need by integrating results...

Variables summarized at the HUC12 scale include measures of anthropogenic land uses, population density, roads, dams,...

This Geographic Information System dataset contains a shapefile of the watershed drainage area boundaries for the 15 watersheds which were used in the study in Gwinnett County, Georgia. The watersheds were delineated with StreamStats.
This dataset consists of drainage basin boundaries for selected transboundary basins draining to the Gulf of Alaska in south-east Alaska. Basins were delineated to the basin outlet using a tidal datum of mean high water (MHW). The drainage basins are provided as polygons attributed with basin drainage area and as polylines attributed with the data source for each line segment, respectively.

Drainage areas (or watersheds) were calculated for each stream segment in the National Hydrography Dataset High Resolution Plus Beta (NHD HR Plus Beta) using non-end junction points and the provided hydrologically enforced Digital Elevation Model (DEM). The DEM was used to create a flow direction raster. The pour points used were determined from junction points at each stream intersection excluding stream ends (i.e. channel heads are not included). Watershed calculations were automated using the ArcGIS "watershed" tool and then edited manually for accuracy. In western San Diego County (non-desert) there were 39,980 drainage areas calculated. The percent impervious in each watershed was calculated using the National...

This shapefile contains cumulative fish habitat condition index (HCI) scores and specific disturbance indices for local and network stream catchments as well as the downstream main channel catchment of perennial and intermittent streams reaches of the five main island of Hawai'i. In this dataset indices are linked to the Hawaii Fish Habitat Partnership (HFHP) stream layer (Tingley et al. in prep) which is a modified version of the 1:24,000 National Hydrography Dataset. It includes 11,436 intermittent and perennial stream reaches across the five main Hawaiian Islands (Hawai’i, Maui, Moloka’i, O’ahu, Kaua’i). Catchment attributes are available for both local catchments (defined as the land area draining directly to...

This data release supports the study by Sexstone and others (2020) and contains simulation output from SnowModel (Liston and Elder, 2006), a well-validated process-based snow modeling system. Simulations are for water years 1984 through 2017 (October 1, 1983 through September 30, 2017) across a 11,200 square kilometer model domain in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado, United States that encompasses the Rio Grande Basin headwaters (HUC8 13010001). This data release also contains supporting field-based snow and meteorological station observations collected within the model domain during water years 2016 and 2017 that were used to evaluate SnowModel simulations. Sexstone and others (2020) provide details...

Water levels were measured during March 2014 in wells in the Antelope Valley and Fremont Valley groundwater basins, southwestern Mojave Desert, California, in cooperation with the Antelope Valley-East Kern Water District, Palmdale Water District, and Littlerock Creek Irrigation District. These data document recent conditions and, when compared with previous data, changes in groundwater levels. A regional water-table map was constructed using data from about 200 wells.
