Concern has been raised that selenium contamination may be adversely affecting endangered fish in the upper Colorado River basin. The objective of the study was to determine if operation of a water control structure (opened in December 1996) that allowed the Colorado River to flow through a channel area at Walter Walker State Wildlife Area (WWSWA) would reduce selenium and other inorganic elements in water, sediment, aquatic invertebrates, and forage fish. Endangered Colorado pikeminnow were collected and muscle plug samples taken for selenium analysis. We evaluated the thermal regime and relative abundance of native and non-native fish and invertebrates within Kelly Warm Spring and Savage Ditch, Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming. Water temperatures within the system remained relatively warm year round with mean temperatures less than 20 degrees Celsius near the source, and greater than 5 degress Celsius approximately 2 km downstream of the spring source. This dataset contains the non-freshwater specimens from the Nonindigenous Aquatic Species (NAS) database, which was established as a central repository for spatially referenced biogeographic accounts of introduced aquatic species. This dataset does not include any marine fish. The NAS program provides scientific reports, online/real-time queries, spatial data sets, regional contact lists, and general information. Capacity to prioritize barrier removals in the Great Lakes basin is currently limited by lack of data on the passability of road crossings and dams for both unwanted invasive species and desirable native migratory fishes. Building upon our initial barrier inventory, this project has two key elements. First, we are testing whether our landscape statistical models accurately predict the upstream limits of fish migrations along the Wisconsin coast of Lake Michigan. We report a draft genome of a previously undescribed calicivirus from a single brown bullhead inhabiting Lake Memphremagog, Vermont/Quebec. The genome is 7413 nt in length and is most similar to the Atlantic salmon calicivirus (nucleotide identity; 64.7%).

This Data Release provides records of fish species abundance collected during summer 2015 using single pass backpack electrofishing within sections of Owens Creek, Big Hunting Creek, and Blue Blazes Creek (a tributary to Big Hunting Creek) in Maryland (USA). We also provide water and air temperature data collected during at 30 minute increments summers of 2015 and 2016. Stream physical habitat data are also reported for fish sampling sites.
Egg mat retention trials were conducted with walleye (Stizostedion vitreum) and lake whitefish (Coregonus clupeaformis) eggs in an experimental flume tank, seeded directly on egg mats (test retention efficiency) and hand dispersed in flowing flume water to simulate spawning over egg mats (test capture efficiency) with and without alternate substrate. Herbaceous riparian buffers (CP 21 grass filter strips) are a widely used agricultural conservation practice in the United States for reducing nutrient, pesticide, and sediment loadings to agricultural streams. The ecological impacts of herbaceous riparian buffers on the channelized agricultural headwater streams that are common throughout the midwestern United States have not been evaluated. This dataset documents the length and developmental stage of pallid sturgeon and shovelnose sturgeon free embryos from the time of hatch through melanin plug expulsion (the approximate onset of exogenous feeding) reared in the laboratory at a constant temperature. Free embryos from 4 pallid sturgeon crosses and 7 shovelnose sturgeon crosses were reared separately in the laboratory at a mean temperature of 17.8 degrees Celsius (range 17.3–18.4 ). We provide a comprehensive review of the status of non-native fishes in the central Indian River Lagoon (from Cape Canaveral to Grant-Valkaria, east of I-95) through literature review and field surveys. Historical records exist for 17 taxa (15 species, one hybrid, one species complex). We found historical records for one additional species and collected one species in our field survey that had never been recorded in the region before (and which we eradicated). We evaluated distribution, habitat use, spawning, and species associations of the endangered humpback chub (Gila cypha) in the Yampa and Green rivers, Dinosaur National Monument, from 1986 to 1989. Adult and juvenile humpback chub were captured in high-gradient reaches of Yampa and Whirlpool canyons where they were rare (n = 133, G. robusta) were widely distributed in eddies, pools, runs, and riffles.
