A triangulated irregular network (TIN) developed to create a digital elevation model was modified to represent areas of proposed channel modification at Soldier Meadows, Black Rock Desert - High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area, Nevada. This polygon shapefile contains the TIN modifications for locations of selected channels and ditches to be infilled or excavated for proposed restoration.

Trait-based approaches to vegetation analyses are becoming more prevalent in studies of riparian vegetation dynamics, including responses to flow regulation, groundwater pumping, and climate change. These analyses require species trait data compiled from the literature and floras or original field measurements. Gathering such data makes trait-based research time intensive at best and impracticable in some cases. To support trait-based analysis of vegetation along the Colorado River through Grand Canyon, a data set of 20 biological traits and ecological affinities for 179 species occurring in that study area was compiled. On November 11, 2021, the height, density, and species richness of trees were recorded in five plots along a 175 m transect at Hickory Point State Forest near Pocomoke City, Maryland. This data was divided into categories depending on if the tree was alive, dead, or a sapling. Emergent species' height, density, and richness was also recorded.

This work captures a multi-year progression from 2013 to 2021 of change in the height of the topographic surface and freshwater status of the rooting zone that may indicate impending vegetation transition. Two Surface Elevation Tables (SETs) in a tidal Taxodium distichum swamp at Hickory Point State Forest near Pocomoke City, Maryland were used to collect data on the height of the topographic surface established with respect to a local vertical datum. The study was conducted on tidal freshwater swamp environments subjected to salinity intrusion at Hickory Point State Forest near Pocomoke City, Maryland. This is the raw YKD salinity data for fixed and random plot 2006 - 2019. No attempt has been made for quality control on these data. These data are quality controled using the R code in the file ‘YKDsalinity_QC.R’ to produce the data used for analysis and sharing (‘YKDsalinity_QC.R’). These data should not generally be used or distributed other than when the quality control process is revised and downstream data files need to be recreated (i.e., information is needed from these raw data that is not represented in the quality control files).

This dataset provides baseline concentrations (from 2014) of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH), other aromatic organic compounds, mercury (Hg), and trace metal concentrations in sediment and biota collected from two sites along an existing rail line used for coal transport in the Columbia River Gorge, Washington. For this study, aquatic surface sediments, aquatic insects, and juvenile fish were collected in 2014 from Horsethief Lake in Columbia Hills State Park and Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge (NWR), both located in close proximity to the rail line and within the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. This data release is associated with a journal article titled, "Aquatic-Terrestrial Linkages Control Metabolism and Carbon Dynamics in a Mid-sized, Urban Stream Influenced by Snowmelt." The data were collected adjacent to USGS stream gage 06730200 and include observed and modeled values. Dissolved oxygen, dissolved carbon dioxide, stream depth, water temperature, and light intensity were collected via passive water quality sensors. Modeled values include gross primary production, ecosystem respiration, net ecosystem production, reaeration, and light (when observed values were unavailable). This Fish Community Analysis dataset, a conceptual subgroup of the Lake Erie Ecological Investigations (LEEI) dataset, focuses on the fish communities sampled at Areas of Concern (AOCs) on Lake Erie. Per the Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP), fish were sampled for identification and measurement of length and weight. Identification of fish were done by the same biologists for both the 1998-2000 data and the 1986-87 historical data (Smith et al. 1994). Any fish difficult to identify were preserved in buffered formalin for later identification. Remote sensing technologies, such as high-resolution sonar, can be used to collect more detailed information about the benthic and water column characteristics of macro habitats in the Illinois River. Multibeam echosounders (MBES) collect multibeam and sidescan simultaneously, providing high-resolution images of the riverbed. Sidescan images, in raster format, show the recorded intensity of acoustic signal returns from the riverbed. The acoustic data were collected from the Easst Pit of Hanson Pits (where accessible) of the Marseilles reach June 27, 2018.

Hydroacoustic (sonar) data were collected for the Mississippi, St. Croix, and Minnesota Rivers for the development of high-resolution bathymetry and sidescan imagery. Small areas containing priority mussel habitat had additional collection efforts to map water velocities and bottom composition. Combining these data in a GIS can provide key components to characterizing physical benthic habitat for native mussels in a riverine environment. Data on changing hydrogeomorphic characteristics along river gradients from nontidal through tidal freshwater to oligohaline reaches along the Mattaponi and Pamunkey Rivers, Virginia. Shapefile data include location and elevation profiles of the river valleys along multiple digital cross-sections from lidar digital elevation models, satellite visible imagery, and geographic information system analysis. These data were used to help interpret fundamental changes in regime along rivers as they transition from watersheds into the coastal zone.

The South Atlantic Conservation Blueprint is a living spatial plan to conserve natural and cultural resources for future generations. It identifies shared conservation priorities across the South Atlantic region. The second iteration of the Blueprint, Version 2.0, was released in July 2015. It was a completely data-driven plan based on ecosystem indicator models for terrestrial, freshwater, and marine environments, as well as a connectivity analysis. Blueprint 2.0 used a 200 m spatial scale. With Version 2.0, the total number of people actively involved in developing the Blueprint grew to more than 400 individuals from over 100 organizations.

From 16 June to 30 July, 2021, a Virginia Tech team of 4-6 sampled the fish community in 30 Shenandoah Valley streams (Virginia and West Virginia, USA) as part of a larger stream-health study including other teams who surveyed geomorphology, water quality, flow, temperature, macroinvertebrates, and fish health at the same 30 streams. The fish community team also sampled three additional bonus streams (SiteID's FOLL, NAKE, and TUMB) during 19-22 August, 2021. These 33 streams had upstream drainage areas of 7 to 46 sq. km and included 4 James River tributaries (SiteID's POAG, MLRB, CEDR, PISG), one Potomac River tributary (HARL), and 28 Shenandoah River tributaries. The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service funded this report to help inform members of the newly established NPLCC as they assess priorities and begin operations.
