Electrical resistivity results from two regional airborne electromagnetic (AEM) surveys (Minsley et al. 2021, and Burton et al. 2021) over the Mississippi Alluvial Plain (MAP) were combined by the U.S. Geological Survey to produce three-dimensional (3D) gridded models and derivative hydrogeologic products. The 3D elevation grid was used to quantify across the MAP region 1) the occurrence and thickness of surficial (< 15 meter (m) depth) confining material, 2) the top and bottom elevation corresponding to the surficial confining material, and 3) a metric representing the degree of surface confinement or connectivity that ranges from fully confining conditions to high potential hydrologic connectivity. These products...

This data release documents the digital data used to produce flood-inundation maps for a range of gage heights (stages) for the Sabinal River near Utopia, Tex. The simulated flood-inundation maps correspond to a range in stage from 11 to 28 feet (ft) at U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) streamgage 08197970 Sabinal River at Utopia, Tex. at intervals of 0.5-ft. The maps were created for a 10-mile reach of the Sabinal River extending from USGS streamgage 08197936 Sabinal River below Mill Creek near Vanderpool, Tex. to USGS streamgage 08197970 Sabinal River at Utopia, Tex. (hereinafter referred to as the “Utopia gage”) and 7-mile reach of the West Sabinal River were created by the USGS in cooperation with the Bandera County...

Rasters of positive openness and positive openness difference in the Greater Raleigh, NC Area based on 1-meter high-resolution lidar-derived digital elevation models (DEMs). This dataset contains positive openness rasters for 2013, 2015, and 2022 and one positive openness difference raster. The positive openness difference raster represents the difference in positive openness values between the years 2015 and 2022. The 2015 and 2022 positive openness rasters were selected for differencing because of the superior quality level (QL2) of base lidar data used to develop the positive openness rasters compared with the poorer quality level (QL3) of base lidar data used to develop the 2013 positive openness raster. Positive...

In February 2016 the U.S. Geological Survey, Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center in cooperation with North Carolina State University and the National Park Service collected multibeam bathymetry and acoustic backscatter data in Lake Crescent located in Olympic National Park, Washington. Data were collected using a Reson 7111 multibeam echosounder pole-mounted to the 36-foot USGS R/V Parke Snavely. These metadata describe the multibeam acoustic-backscatter data file that is included in "LakeCrescent_backscatter_3m_UTM10_NAD83.zip" which is accessible from https://doi.org/10.5066/F7B56GW5.

This portion of the USGS data release presents topography data acquired in the Liberty Island Conservation Wildlands restoration site in 2017 (USGS Field Activity Number 2017-649-FA). Topographic data were collected on June 26 and 27, 2017 by walking with global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers mounted on backpacks. Hand-held data collectors were used to log raw data and display navigational information as the surveyors traversed the landscape. The final point data are provided in a comma-separated text file and are projected in cartesian coordinates using the Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) Zone 10 North, meters coordinate system.

This part of DS 781 presents data for the isopachs of the Punta Gorda to Point Arena, California, region. The vector data file is included in the "Isopachs_PuntaGordaToPointArena.zip," which is accessible from https://doi.org/10.5066/P9PNNI9H. As part of the USGS's California State Waters Mapping Project, a 50-m grid of sediment thickness for the seafloor within the 3-nautical mile limit between Punta Gorda and Point Arena was generated from seismic-reflection data collected between 2010 and 2012, and supplemented with geologic structure (fault) information following the methodology of Wong (2012). Reference Cited: Wong, F. L., Phillips, E.L., Johnson, S.Y., and Sliter, R.W., 2012, Modeling of depth to base of Last...

This part of the data release presents a shapefile that includes a spatial index of orthoimagery and elevation data describing the Alaskan coastline from Icy Cape to Cape Prince of Wales. The data products referenced in this index include orthoimagery, digital surface models, and elevation point clouds which were generated from aerial imagery using structure-from-motion methods. Fairbanks Fodar, a contracted mapping service, collected the aerial imagery in 2016 and created all of the data products referenced here. Due to the enormous extent of this dataset, the products are split into separate files with more manageable sizes. Each polygon in this shapefile index provides a geographic outline of a data file’s coverage,...

This data release presents topographic survey data and a digital elevation model (DEM) of Oxbow Reservoir, in Placer County, California. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) conducted a topographic survey of accessible regions of the reservoir sediment on 26 October 2022, when the reservoir was partially de-watered to allow repairs to the dam infrastructure following the Mosquito Fire. The survey was conducted to document baseline reservoir sediment elevation in Oxbow Reservoir immediately after the Mosquito Fire, prior to the first post-fire runoff of the 2022-2023 winter. During the survey, significant portions of the reservoir site remained inaccessible to surveyors due to the continued flow of the Middle Fork American...

A comprehensive map of Quaternary faults has been generated for offshore of California. The Quaternary fault map includes mapped geometries and attribute information for offshore fault systems located in California State and Federal waters. The polyline shapefile and matching KML file have been compiled from previously published mapping where relatively dense, high-resolution marine geophysical data exist. The data are accompanied by a PDF containing citations for the compiled source data. Most of the marine geophysical data used for mapping have been processed, merged, and released by the USGS in maps, data releases, and journal publications in support of the California Seafloor Mapping Program and the U.S. West...

Structure-from-Motion (SfM) surface models were created using seafloor video collected over a visible fault scarp in the Channel Islands, California, during a 2016 U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) field activity. Four SfM surface models were created, each with a different combination of locating, scaling, and optimizing methods. Video imagery was collected using the USGS Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center's BOBSled, equipped with high-definition (720p) video cameras (video published in Coastal and Marine Geology Program video and photo portal, Golden and others, 2015). The sled was towed behind the R/V Shearwater and shipboard GPS locations were recorded every 1 second in the video's audio channel. The models...

High-resolution chirp sub-bottom data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey, Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center in May of 2019 in Whiskeytown Lake, California using an Edgetech SB-512i sub-bottom profiler. These data were collected to measure possible debris flows into the lake during the 2018-2019 rainy season following the July-August 2018 Carr fire that burned vegetation around the entire lake. Post-fire hillslope sediment yields are commonly substantially greater than pre-fire yields, but the degree to which they increase can vary substantially. Effects of wildfire on sediment yield have important implications for hazards (debris-flow risk), ecosystem disturbance and recovery, and downstream water...

These data present geologic map units for the United States (Horton and others, 2017; Wilson and others, 2015) and Australia (Raymond and others, 2012) reclassified to 31 generalized sub-type lithologic groups of igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks (Lawley and others, 2022). These generalized classifications are based on interpretation of map unit descriptions in the different map compilations. Given that map unit descriptions often contain multiple rock types, there were subjective calls necessary when assigning generalized lithologic classification. The data were developed as part of the tri-national Critical Minerals Mapping Initiative (Kelley, 2020) between the United States, Canada, and Australia, an...
