This report summarizes the cosmogenic beryllium-10 (10Be) geochronologic results from boulders deposited on moraines in the Stura Valley of the Maritime Alps, the southwestern most extent of the European Alpine mountain chain, northwestern Italy. Within this report are detailed the methodologies used to collect samples of whole rock, determine the concentrations of cosmogenic 10Be in purified quartz isolated from those samples, and use those nuclide concentrations to calculate surface exposure ages. This report should be used as supplementary material for any publication(s) that uses the nuclide concentrations and/or ages reported herein. This version supersedes all previous age estimates and reports.

This data release contains model output from simulations presented in the associated Open-File Report (Barnhart and others, 2021). In this report, we present model results from four simulations (scenarios C-290, NC-290, C-689, NC-689, Table 1) of hypothetical rapid movement of landslides into adjacent fjord water at Barry Arm, Alaska using the D-Claw model (George and Iverson, 2014; Iverson and George, 2014). The basis for the four scenarios is described in Barnhart and others (2021). Table 1. Summary of four considered scenarios including key simulation input parameter values. The U.S. Geological Survey provides a wide range of scientific information to an even wider group of stakeholders. Understanding what capacities are needed and if and or where these capacities exist across the USGS landscape is critical in moving science to the next level of use, implementation, and visualization. The concept behind the groups organized to conduct and interpret the survey that collected these data took advantage of the USGS’s position as a science organization with expertise spanning a wide range of science disciplines, stakeholders, and responsibilities. A survey was conducted of USGS employees (Sep 20-Nov 20) to get a current sample of the capacities that exist across the USGS.
This Scientific Data Release is a spatial geodatabase representation of Braun, D. D., 1996, Surficial geology of the Allentown 30x60-minute quadrangle: Pennsylvania Geological Survey, 4th ser., Open-File Report 96–48, 17 p., 1 map, scale 1:100,000. These geospatial data depict surficial geologic materials in the Pennsylvania portion of the Allentown 30 x 60-minute quadrangle in eastern Pennsylvania. The map area shows the effects of at least three Pleistocene glacial advances. The report map is a compilation and revision of published and unpublished, 1:24,000-scale, detailed-reconnaissance maps. Types of surficial geologic units include 14 anthropogenic, 8 alluvial or wetland, 16 colluvial, and 12 Wisconsinan, Illinoian,...

Denali National Park and Preserve (DENA), located in central Alaska, is home to iconic and dynamic landscapes surrounding the tallest mountain range in North America, the Alaska Range. DENA preserves over 6 million acres of wild land that provides opportunities for recreation, subsistence hunting and gathering, preservation of cultural resources, and scientific research. Despite its size and popularity, DENA has only one road—the dead-end, 92-mile Denali National Park Road (hereafter referred to as the Park Road). The Park Road is mostly gravel; only the first 15 miles are paved. It is the only access for most DENA infrastructure, including visitor centers, staff facilities, campgrounds, and businesses. The Park...

The Homestake Reservoir 7.5' quadrangle lies at the northwestern end of the Upper Arkansas Valley, and headwaters of the Arkansas River, and the Roaring Fork, Fryingpan, and Eagle Rivers of the Colorado River system. The quadrangle lies within tectonic provinces of the 1.4 Ga Picuris Orogeny, the late Paleozoic Ancestral Rockies, Late Cretaceous-Paleocene Laramide orogeny, Oligocene to Miocene, and Pliocene?, volcanism, and Miocene to the present Rio Grande rift extensional tectonics. In the eastern half of the quadrangle, high-angle, east-dipping, Neogene normal faults displace Proterozoic rocks, and locally Mio-Pliocene? volcanic rocks. Many quartz veins and hydrothermally altered zones are exposed along the eastern...

Ken Pierce was a Research Geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey for over 55 years and authored numerous scientific papers, geologic maps, and field trip guides. This data release contains digital scans of 64 field notebooks 713 annotated aerial photographs, and 640 annotated geologic and topographic maps authored or annotated by Ken Pierce or his collaborators. Information contained in these notebooks, aerial photographs, and maps provide much of the underpinning of Ken Pierce's research, which focused largely on the glacial and geomorphological history of Yellowstone National Park and surrounding areas.

This dataset supports the publication “Geophysical insights into Paleoproterozoic tectonics along the southern margin of the Superior Province, central Upper Peninsula, Michigan, USA.” At a 1:100,000 scale, these data are in a geologic database in the Geologic Map Schema (GeMS) which includes spatial feature classes and non-spatial tables that contain the geologic information presented in figure 8 and S3 of appendix A, the supplemental map of the publication. This data release contains input data for hydrologic simulations of the Alaska Domain application of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Precipitation Runoff Modelling System (PRMS) as implemented in the National Hydrologic Model (NHM) infrastructure (Regan and others, 2018). The NHM Alaska Domain parameter database consists of 114 parameter files in ASCII format (CSV), two files needed to run the Alaska Domain PRMS (control.fy19deliverable and fy19_deliv.param), two xml files (dimensions.xml and parameters.xml) containing descriptive information about the parameters, and a table that defines each parameter (AK_paramDB_datadictionary.csv). The Entity and Attribute element of this metadata record describe the data...

These data can be used to replicate the application of MWBMglacier as described in two journal articles: 1) Enhancement of a parsimonious water balance model to simulate surface hydrology in a glacierized watershed (in review), and 2) Hydrologic regime changes in a high-latitude glacierized watershed under future climate conditions (doi:10.3390/w10020128). These simulations provide results from historical and 12 future general circulation model scenarios for the period 1949-2099 to determine the potential effects of climate change on the hydrology and water quality of a snow-dominated mountainous environment. In addition to the inputs and outputs, this Data Release includes summaries of the input and output data...
The lateral blast, debris avalanche, and lahars of the May 18th, 1980, eruption of Mount St. Helens, Washington, dramatically altered the surrounding landscape. Lava domes were extruded during the subsequent eruptive periods of 1980-1986 and 2004-2008. During 2017, U.S. Forest Service contracted the acquisitions of airborne lidar surveys of Mount St. Helens and upper North Fork Toutle River basin, part of a larger 2017-2018 survey of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The U.S. Geological Survey combined and reprojected 81 raster datasets, provided by the U.S. Forest Service in October 2018, into a single digital elevation model (DEM) of the ground surface, including beneath forest cover (that is, 'bare earth')....
