These files were used to construct corridors estimating the extent of new coastal corridors exposed by reduced lake levels. They are included here to show the available horizontal extent of lidar-derived topo-bathymetric data and thus explicitly identify gaps and limitations of predicted corridor extents under various reduced lake level scenarios. Effects of pulse duration on common hydroacoustic measures in Lake Erie in 2011-2012 and Ohio Reservoirs in 2017

Hydroacoustics is a common sampling tool in freshwater and marine ecosystems, yet the full potential of this tool remains restricted, owing to an incomplete understanding of the influence of many data collection settings. In particular, investigation into the effects of the pulse duration setting on common hydroacoustic measures remains limited. Lake Erie Ecological Investigations 1980-2000: Sediment Analysis

This Sediment Analysis dataset, a conceptual subgroup of the Lake Erie Ecological Investigations (LEEI) dataset, focuses on the sediments sampled at Areas of Concern (AOCs) on Lake Erie. Per the Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP), sediment collections were a composite of at least five randomly selected samples collected from each site. Per an internal summary report, sediment samples were collected using a stainless steel Eckman dredge. Total thiamine concentrations in lake trout Salvelinus namaycush eggs in lakes Huron and Michigan, 1996-2018

Monitoring of vitamin B1 (thiamine) in the eggs of lake trout (Salvelinus namaycush) collected from lakes Huron and Michigan has been conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey since the mid-1990’s. The results of this monitoring effort have been used by natural resource management agencies and native American tribes within the Great Lakes basin to evaluate the reproductive health of lake trout. The data in this release are the thiamine concentrations measured in lake trout collected from 1996-2018. Results are reported as total thiamine (nmol/g-egg), collection site, lake, year collected, and reference to the analysis methods.

Microsatellite genotypes for Lake Sturgeon (Acipenser fulvescens) Eggs and Larvae from Constructed Reefs in the St. Clair-Detroit River System (2015-2016)

This dataset contains the physical collection information (e.g., sample location, date, gear type) and microsatellite DNA genotype of egg and larval Lake Sturgeon collected in the St. Clair and Detroit rivers in 2015 and 2016. Individuals were genotyped for 18 microsatellite loci (13 disomic and 5 polysomic). Alleles (base pair sizes) were recorded as presence absence scores (1:present, 2:absent, 0:missing data) for all previously observed alleles. Thus individual genotypes were recorded as pseudo diploid dominant phenotypes resulting in individual vectors of length n=205 for each genotyped egg or larval individual.

Laboratory Evaluation of Phototaxis in Cultured Cisco Larvae

Field observations in a Lake Ontario embayment suggested that there is a phototaxic response of larval cisco that changes with development. This switch was verified using cultured cisco in a laboratory environment. These data include counts of cisco larvae at three depth ranges within multiple 95 liter tanks. Each tank of larvae were exposed to one of three different light treatments with three replicate tanks per treatment. Light treatments were 24 hours per day of light exposure, 24 hours per day in darkness, and a 12-hour light then 12-hour dark exposure cycle. Reproductive success and contaminant associations in tree swallows (Tachnycineta bicolor) nesting in the U.S. and Binational Great Lakes' Areas of Concern data

During 2010-2014, tree swallow (Tachycineta bicolor) reproductive success was monitored at 68 sites across all 5 Great Lakes, including 58 sites located within Great Lakes Areas of concern (AOCs) and 10 non-AOCs. Sample eggs were collected from tree swallow clutches and analyzed for contaminants including polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), dioxin and furans, polybrominated diphenyl ethers, and 34 other organic compounds. Contaminant data were available for 360 of the 1249 clutches monitored. Markov chain multistate modeling was used to assess the importance of 5 ecological and 11 of the dominant contaminants in explaining the pattern of egg and nestling failure rates. Black carp and grass carp morphometric measurements

Black carp Mylopharyngodon piceus and grass carp Ctenopharyngodon idella are morphologically similar species imported from eastern Asia to North America as biological control organisms. Preferred identification methods are coloration and pharyngeal tooth form. Grass carp possess serrated teeth and black carp molariform teeth. Examination of pharyngeal teeth causes extensive damage to a specimen, and is labor and time intensive. Coloration can vary within a species and fades with preservation. Biomass and abundance of invertebrates collected on artificial substrates in the Great Lakes, 2013-2016

In this dataset, we report on the biomass and abundance of invertebrates collected on artificial substrates in the Great Lakes from 2013-2016. Sampling effort was focused on the western basin of Lake Erie, but also includes some sampling from Green Bay (Lake Michigan), Grand Traverse Bay (Lake Michigan) and Saginaw Bay (Lake Huron). In 2015 and 2016, we increased the number of taxa that we quantified. Round Hester-Dendy samplers were used as artificial substrates. Substrates were deployed at sites where unionid mussels were also deployed in cages.

The Lethality of Hot Water, Chlorine, and Ozone on Aquatic Invasive Species

This data describes the use of hot water, chlorine, and ozone as a potential lock treatment to prevent the spread of Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) during boat transfers. Laboratory exposures where conducted to determine combinations of time, temperature, and chlorine or dissolved ozone induced complete morality to select AIS. Induced mortality from exposure to these variables are provided in this data set. This data set is closely related to toxicity data.
