Heavy rainfall occurred across Louisiana during March 8-19, 2016, as a result of a massive, slow-moving southward dip in the jet stream, which moved eastward across Mexico, then neared the Gulf Coast, funneling deep tropical moisture into parts of the Gulf States and the Mississippi River Valley. The storm caused major flooding in north-central and southeastern Louisiana. Digital flood-inundation maps for a 28-mile reach within the communities of Port Vincent, French Settlement, and Maurepas near the Amite River in Livingston and Ascension Parishes, LA was created by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to support response and recovery operations following...

This dataset represents the relative average amount of non-woody cover within 2 ha) of bottomland along the Colorado River from the Colorado state line (San Juan and Grand Counties, Utah) to the southern Canyonlands NP boundary, as of September 2010. Traditional image interpretation cues were used to develop the polygons, such as shape, size, pattern, tone, texture, color, and shadow, from high resolution, true color, aerial imagery (0.3m resolution), acquired for the project. Additional, public available aerial photos (NAIP, 2011) were used to cross-reference cover classes. As with any digital layer, this layer is a representation of what is actually occurring on the ground. Errors are inherent in any interpretation...

The evapotranspiration (ET) datasets were created under contract for this study by the University of Idaho. A high-resolution remote sensing technique known as Mapping Evapotranspiration at High Resolution and Internalized Calibration (METRIC) was used to create estimates of the spatial distribution of ET. The METRIC technique uses thermal infrared Landsat imagery to quantify actual evapotranspiration at a 30-meter resolution that can be related to individual irrigated fields. Because evaporation uses heat energy, ground surfaces with large ET rates are left cooler as a result of ET than ground surfaces that have less ET. As a consequence, irrigated fields appear in the Landsat images as cooler than nonirrigated...
This dataset represents the variety (unique structural classes: water, bare, herbaceous, short shrubs, medium shrubs, short trees, tall trees) within 1 ha of bottomland areas. Errors are inherent in any interpretation of ground qualities. Due to the "snapshot" nature of the aerial photos,...

This contains the Australasian portion of the Hydrologic Derivatives for Modeling and Analysis (HDMA) database. The HDMA database provides comprehensive and consistent global coverage of raster and vector topographically derived layers, including raster layers of digital elevation model (DEM) data, flow direction, flow accumulation, slope, and compound topographic index (CTI); and vector layers of streams and catchment boundaries. The coverage of the data is global (-180º, 180º, -90º, 90º) with the underlying DEM being a hybrid of three datasets: HydroSHEDS (Hydrological data and maps based on SHuttle Elevation Derivatives at multiple Scales), Global Multi-resolution Terrain Elevation Data 2010 (GMTED2010) and the...
This map shows the channel boundary (2011) of the Colorado River mainstem between the Utah Colorado border and the upper pool of Lake Powell, Utah (146 miles). The channel boundary was mapped from public available NAIP imagery flown on June 28, 2011, when the river flow was 886 m3/s at the Cisco gage. The channel is subdivided into channel types: fast water (main channel, secondary channel), and still water types (backwater, isolated pool and tributary channel).

Acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) data were collected along a prescribed navigated course throughout Calumet Harbor on May 6, 2016 to determine the spatial distribution of layer-averaged velocities. The data were layer-averaged in 2-foot increments of depth from the bed to the water surface, and temporally-averaged over a 30-second window to reduce noise. Data were processed using the Velocity Mapping Toolbox (Parsons and other, 2013). Any data assigned a value of "-9999" are invalid or missing and should not be used for analysis. Parsons, D. R., Jackson, P. R., Czuba, J. A., Engel, F. L., Rhoads, B. L., Oberg, K. A., Best, J. L., Mueller, D. S., Johnson, K. K. and Riley, J. D. (2013), Velocity Mapping...

WaSSI (Water Supply Stress Index) predicts how climate, land cover, and human population change may impact water availability and carbon sequestration at the watershed level (about the size of a county) across the lower 48 United States. WaSSI users can select and adjust temperature, precipitation, land cover, and water use factors to simulate change scenarios for any timeframe from 1961 through the year 2100. Simulation results are available as downloadable maps, graphs, and data files that users can apply to their unique information and project needs. WaSSI generates useful information for natural resource planners and managers who must make informed decisions about water supplies and related ecosystem services...
