This inventory was originally created by Gorum and others (2014) describing the landslides triggered by the M 7.9 Denali, Alaska earthquake that occurred on 3 November 2002 at 22:12:41 UTC. Care should be taken when comparing with other inventories because different authors use different mapping techniques. This inventory includes landslides triggered by a sequence of earthquakes rather than a single mainshock. Please check the author methods summary and the original data source for more information on these details and to confirm the viability of this inventory for your specific use. With the exception of the data from USGS sources, the inventory data and associated metadata were not acquired by the U.S. Geological...

This inventory describes the landslides triggered by the the M6.3 Central Italy earthquake that occurred on 2009-04-06 at 1:32:39 UTC, also referred to as L'Aquila or the Aquilano earthquake. The inventory comes from the Italian Catalogue of Earthquake-Induced Ground Effects (Italian acronym CEDIT) by Martino and others (2014), which contains inventories from multiple earthquakes. To obtain the most up to date version of the entire, original catalog along with more details about its compilation, please visit the CEDIT webpage on the website of the Centre for Research (CERI) of the Department of Earth Sciences in the Sapienza University of Rome: http://www.ceri.uniroma1.it/index.php/web-gis/cedit/. This dataset represents the 1984 vegetation inventory completed during the development of the Mt. Hood National Forest Land and Resource Management Plan. It was updated with 1989 harvested polygons and the addition of Mature Over Mature Study (MOMS) data to the ORACLE database. The polygon data and tables were converted to its current form as the VEGIS coverage with attributes stored in a set of related dbase tables. Vegetation activities were tracked separately in harvest and fire coverages in the past, and currently in FACTS Activities and Fire History geodatabases. A new vegetation inventory and update process is currently underway with remote sensing and ecology specialists from the Pacific Northwest Regional...

The Jornada Basin Long Term Ecological Research program, in collaboration with the USDA ARS Jornada Experimental Range, studies the causes and consequences of desertification: the broad scale expansion of woody plants into grasslands that results in more "desert like" conditions. We are interested in spatial and temporal variation in desertification dynamics, and how historic legacies, the geomorphic template, transport vectors (wind, water, animals), and environmental drivers (climate, land use, disturbance) interact with the patch structure of the vegetation to determine past, present, and future ecosystem dynamics across scales. Our study site is located in the northern Chihuahuan Desert, approximately 25 km...

This report is volume 1 of a two-volume ecological assessment of grassland ecosystems in the Southwestern United States. Broadscale assessments are syntheses of current scientific knowledge, including a description of uncertainties and assumptions, to provide a characterization and comprehensive description of ecological, social, and economic components within an assessment area. Volume 1 of this assessment focuses on the ecology, types, conditions, and management practices of Southwestern grasslands. The second volume, due to be published in 2005, describes wildlife and fish species, their habitat requirements, and species-specific management concerns, in Southwestern grasslands. This assessment is regional in...
NPS is transforming the way park resource information is managed and delivered to parks, partners, and the public. IRMA (Integrated Resource Management Applications) is the name given to the project that has guided this transformation, and to the web portal that is its end result. View or download the IRMA project brief (.pdf). IRMA is a portfolio of tools and applications, and the beginnings of a "one-stop" for data and information on park-related resources. From IRMA you can search for, view, and download documents, reports, publications, data sets, and park species lists. You can get information on park visitor numbers, park projects, and apply for a park research permit. Park staff can navigate to certain internal...

This Comprehensive Conservation Plan (CCP) was written to guide management on Cabeza Prieta NWR for the next 15 years. This plan outlines the Refuge vision and purpose and describes how Cabeza Prieta NWR will contribute to the overall mission of the Refuge System. The plan provides an introduction to the Refuge, an overview of the CCP process, management alternatives, the affected environment, and environmental consequences. Key planning issues include: wildlife and habitat management, endangered species, desert bighorn sheep management, predator management, visitor services, and public use.

This virtual flora and fauna was created to serve as a gateway for the environmental research community, as well as the general public, to access and contribute to a growing collection of specimen records and observations. These data represent the products of MABA research expeditions as well as historic data from herbaria, museum collections, and scientific literature. Sky Island Alliance's MABA project is a visionary initiative to catalog, protect, and restore one of the world's premier biodiversity hotspots - the Southwestern U.S. and Northwestern Mexico’s Madrean Sky Island region (Sonora, Arizona, Chihuahua, and New Mexico). MABA is committed to inventorying the wildlands and wildlife of these Sky Islands —...
This special issue brings together leading experts from Asia, Europe and North America to examine the international institutions, national governance mechanisms and financing systems that together will determine the future of the energy sector. The enormous environmental externalities imposed by fossil fuel extraction and consumption, the devastating corruption and human rights abuses that have accompanied this energy system, and the geopolitical vulnerabilities that have arisen because of the uneven natural distribution of these resources, have occasioned enormous handwringing – but not, yet, a shift to a more rational system of providing energy services. Although national governments play the dominant role in...

These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. Data points represent locations of photographs taken of landslides in the Little North Santiam River Basin, Oregon. Photos were taken in spring of 2010 during field verification of landslide locations (deposits previously mapped using LiDAR-derived imagery). The photographs depict various landslide features, such as scarps, pistol-butt trees, or colluvium deposits. This work was completed as part of the Master's thesis "Turbidity...

An FY17 NGGDPP grant funded a demolition project to rescue of 1952+ core boxes from a collapsed building, the Cary Annex. This update on the status of the Legacy Core and Cuttings Collection (LCCC) helps compile the interim results of an inventory of 781 of the 1952+ rescued boxes, partly funded by an FY21 NGGDPP grant. As a result of the inventory, 504 core boxes were identified that are associated with 42 original borehole records in the LCCC. For the same borehole records, 367 core boxes remain palletized in conexes, or were damaged or lost. All of the core boxes were damaged and likely need reboxing; 120 were reboxed by NCGS staff. Some of the core boxes have partial losses of core lengths; some material is...
