The Proposed Action is needed to protect and enhance shrub-steppe and riparian habitat for sharp-tailed grouse (Tympanuchus phasianellus columbianus), Pygmy rabbits (Brachylagus idahoensis), and other indigenous wildlife species. The purpose of the Proposed Action is to compensate, in part, for wildlife habitat lost from the construction of Grand Coulee Dam and the inundation of Lake Roosevelt. Bonneville Power Administration proposes to fund management agreements, conservation easements, acquisition of fee title, or a combination of these on as many as 29,000 acres in Lincoln and Douglas Counties to improve shrub-steppe and riparian habitat for sharp-tailed grouse and pygmy rabbits. The BPA also proposes to fund...

The numbers of introduced and established or probably established mammals were based on Long (2003). These data for many countries and oceanic islands were presented in a table in the book introduction and include translocations and re-introductions. Some regions included in the table covered broader geographies than countries (e.g., North America, South America, Russian Federation & associated independent states). To be able to show these data at country level, the data were compiled from the text descriptions of species introductions in the book. Data from Long, J.L. 2003. Introduced Mammals of the World: Their history, distribution and influence. CSIRO Publishing, Collingwood, Australia.

Project Goals: To identify regions of recently evolved endemic (neo-endemism) mammal species in California and thereby infer areas of rapid evolutionary diversification, which may help guide conservation prioritization and future planning for protected areas. Four species-based GIS rasters were produced of mammalian endemism (see reference for details ). This is: Richness of species distribution models weighted by inverse range size Abstract: The high rate of anthropogenic impact on natural systems mandates protection of the evolutionary processes that generate and sustain biological diversity. Environmental drivers of diversification include spatial heterogeneity of abiotic and biotic agents of divergent...

This dataset represents the predicted distribution for Canada Lynx (Lynx canadensis) for the 2050's (ten year period average), based on the agreement (spatial average) of 5 niche modeling techniques (BIOCLIM, Climate Space Model, Envelope Score, Environmental Distance, SMV) and monthly precipitation and average temperature from 12 GCM's from the A2 emission scenario. Localities used to produce the model were resampled from the core area (highest probability) of the predicted distribution based on 48 Worldclim 1.4 climatic variables and BIOCLIM.

Mapping of terrestrial vertebrates focuses on linking a spatial representation of species-habitat matrices to geographic distribution. Each model is a combination of distribution from regional and state references in association with contiguous appropriate habitats. Ranges for all species were based on 8-digit HUCs. Habitats were based on a raster SWReGAP 1 acre MMU land cover data set, with hydrology habitats added in from USGS NHD dataset directly or through modeling. Habitat association information was obtained from various state, regional, and national references with updates from scientific literature. This portion of the Southwest Regional Gap Analysis Project produced predicted habitat distribution maps for...

Establishing connections among natural landscapes is the most frequently recommended strategy for adapting management of natural resources in response to climate change. The U.S. Northern Rockies still support a full suite of native wildlife, and survival of these populations depends on connected landscapes. Connected landscapes support current migration and dispersal as well as future shifts in species ranges that will be necessary for species to adapt to our changing climate. Working in partnership with state and federal resource managers and private land trusts, we sought to: 1) understand how future climate change may alter habitat composition of landscapes expected to serve as important connections for wildlife,...
