Oyster reefs are one of the most important environmental and economic resources within the coastal regions of the United States. Although oyster reefs in deeper water have been mapped, the extent and condition of intertidal reefs has not been sufficiently inventoried in most states. Understanding the geographic extent and condition of intertidal oyster reef and shell bottoms is important for assessing parental stock and to determine potential recruitment bottlenecks for oysters within an estuary. These intertidal areas have traditionally served as a sanctuary from commercial harvest pressure due to closures, safety, and operational barriers preventing the harvesting of oysters in shallow water. The location...

This report presents in tabular form a complete listing of faunal and minor floral elements, along with their identification as known to date, for all fossils collected by field party members of the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) during their 1997 and 1998 geological mapping effort in the Healy A-6 Quadrangle. In addition, all known U.S. Geological Survey fossil localities that could be located from previously published maps are also shown on the fossil locality map and listed in the fossil register.

This map was created to help assess impacts on nonindigenous aquatic species distributions due to flooding associated with Hurricane Nate. Storm surge and flood events can assist expansion and distribution of nonindigenous aquatic species through the connection of adjacent watersheds, backflow of water upstream of impoundments, increased downstream flow, and creation of freshwater bridges along coastal regions. This map will help natural resource managers determine potential new locations for individual species, or to develop a watch list of potential new species within a watershed. These data include a subset of data from the Nonindigenous Aquatic Species Database, that fall within the general area of the 2017...

This dataset presents the results of analysis of aquatic biota tissue samples, collected at 2 sites (Las Vegas Bay and Overton Arm) in 2013 and 2 sites (Las Vegas Bay, Boulder Basin, and Overton Arm) in 2014 in Lake Mead National Recreational Area. The tissue samples were analyzed for concentrations of more than 250 compounds and congeners of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), organochlorine pesticides (DDT and its degradates), wastewater chemicals, and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) at the Columbia Environmental Research Center (CERC) in Columbia, Missouri. Analysis methods include low-resolution, high-resolution, and full spectrum mass spectrometry and high-resolution...

These data represent the measurements of length and mouth gape from large juvenile and adult wild-caught and small juvenile hatchery origin black carp, and the results of laboratory size preference trials with bivalve prey, specifically Corbicula clams. Wild-caught black carp ranged from 429-1580 mm total length, a larger range than measured in previous studies. Corbicula feeding trial data consist of the shell dimensions of each clam, survival, and the frequency which clams were engulfed by black carp.

Data describe a designed environmental DNA (eDNA) experiment for the estimation of eDNA degradation rates for the spectaclecase (Cumberlandia monodonta) from water samples collected in the laboratory. Parameters described include laboratory collected water samples that were tested to estimate concentration of spectaclecase DNA and associated quality assurance data. Samples were collected from experiments performed from May 17, 2021 to May 30, 2021 at the USGS Columbia Environmental Research Center, Missouri
