This report presents the results of a harvest survey and ethnographic research project that investigated the subsistence uses of large land mammals and furbearers in Game Management Unit 25 in the Yukon Flats region of Interior Alaska. Large land mammal species harvested and used by Yukon Flats residents include moose Alces alces, caribou Rangifer tarandus, black bear Ursus americanus, and brown bear Ursus arctos. Furbearing species included in this study are marten Martes americana, lynx Lynx canadensis, and wolf Canis lupus. Data was acquired during aerial surveys conducted by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) between 1992 and 2005. The aerial surveys were conducted annually to count and classify moose in the area. Data are used by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks in their management responsibilities to set hunting seasons, determine population trends, and identify critical habitats. Observations were recorded on data forms and locations either plotted on USFS Maps (Deerlodge National Forest) or recorded by specific location. The data represents observations of moose. This data set represents the 2005 moose seasonal range boundaries for Wyoming. Seasonal range delineations depict lands that are important in each season for certain biological processes within a herd unit. Seasonal range boundaries are based on long-term observation data, specific research projects, and professional judgement. Ranges are digitized at a scale of 1:100,000 using USGS 1:100,000 DRGs as a backdrop for heads up digitizing, and are revised as needed by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. Current seasonal range definitions are based on a 1990 document drafted by the Wyoming Chapter of The Wildlife Society in cooperation with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department and federal land agencies.
The objectives of this work were to map the distribution of the 2 most important habitat associations to moose in the Southern Rockies in order to develop predictive seasonal habitat models. Two seperate datasets were the result of this work, including Deciduous forest and riparian shrublands (Riparian Areas for Moose Winter Habitat Selection, Medicine Bow National Forest, Wyoming).
Subsistence use areas of brown bears, black bears, berries and plants, waterfowl, caribou, wolves, ptarmigan, moose, beaver, subsistence use rivers and lakes for northern pike, sheefish, salmon in the YKL study area. Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is a project within the AMMonitor community, which features projects that monitor wildlife and ecosystems with remotely deployed monitoring devices. Devices that capture media typically include trail cameras (photos, video) and/or autonomous recording units (audio). As with all AMMonitor projects, Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife utilizes an AMMonitor SQLite database to track wildlife monitoring data in a standardized format, permitting cross-project collaboration. This volume's release consists of 26 media files captured by autonomous wildlife monitoring devices under the project, MiddleEarth Wildlife Study. The attached files listed below include several CSV files that provide information about the data release. The file, "media.csv" provides the metadata about the media, such as filename and date/time of capture. The actual media files are housed within folders under the volume's "child items" as compressed files. A critical CSV file is "dictionary.csv", which describes each CSV file, including field names, data types, descriptions, and the relationship of each field to fields other CSV files. Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge (YKF NWR) and Koyukuk NWR (KUK NWR), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), initiated a project with the U.S. Geological Survey Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center to acquire map products needed for moose habitat assessment. The objective of this work was to create a suite of products which included: Estimated Vegetation Heights, probability of Willow Estimates, and Vegetation Type Maps.
