The Skykomish, Snoqualmie, and Middle Fork Snoqualmie River Basins have historically provided critical spawning, rearing, and core habitat for several salmonid species. These salmonid species include natural populations of Chinook salmon (O. tshawytscha), steelhead trout (O. mykiss), and bull trout (Salvelinus confluentus)—listed as “Threatened” under the Endangered Species Act—as well as coho salmon (O. kisutch)—listed as a ”Species of concern”—pink salmon (O. gorbuscha), chum salmon (O. keta), and native char (S. malma) (Solomon and Boles, 2002; Stohr and others, 2011; Svrjcek and others, 2013; Snohomish County Surface Water Management and the Sustainable Lands Strategy Executive Committee [SWM], 2017; U.S. Fish...

The U.S. Geological Survey South Atlantic Water Science Center, in cooperation with the South Carolina Department of Transportation, implemented a South Carolina StreamStats application in 2018. This shapefile dataset contains vector lines representing streams, rivers, and ditches that were used in preparing the underlying data for the South Carolina StreamStats application. Data were compiled from multiple sources, but principally represent lidar-derived linework from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and the South Carolina Lidar Consortium. The South Carolina hydrography lines were created from elevation rasters that ranged from 4 to 10 ft resolution, to produce a product of approximately 1:6,000-scale....

Soil gas methane and combustible gas concentrations collected from oil and gas well pad locations in Utah. Soil gas samples were measured on site and/or collected for later analysis as described in supporting documentation. Multiple sample locations around well head and depths within the soil profile are available for select sites. Supporting documents provide information of sample collection protocol and data quality assurance.

The Lake Powell Coring Project was a USGS research effort, in cooperation with the Utah Department of Environmental Quality, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, and U.S. National Park Service. In the fall of 2018, hydraulic piston cores targeted sediment that had been deposited in Lake Powell. This large reservoir on the Colorado River in Utah and Arizona was created after the completion of Glen Canyon Dam in 1963. Retrieval and analysis of cores was undertaken in response to the Gold King mine release from the Bonita Peak Mining District in Colorado on August 5, 2015. This event resulted in the containment loss of three-million gallons of mine-impacted waters which flowed from the Animas River into the San Juan River,...

The Great Dismal Swamp (the swamp) is a forested peatland in southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. Since early colonial times, timber harvesting and drainage through a network of ditches constructed to facilitate the harvesting have altered these ecosystems. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has managed the swamp as the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge since 1974 to restore its forest communities to those present in early colonial times. Part of the approach to forest restoration has been to "restore the hydrology." The report by Speiran and Wurster (2020) describes the hydrology and water quality across the swamp. Part of the data used to describe the hydrology and water quality of...

Over 40,000 road crossings in Maine are maintained by Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) managers, emergency managers, natural resource planners, and municipalities. Resource managers need a way to quickly and comprehensively assess, during the planning stages of potential transportation-related projects, how ecological, hydrologic, and structural characteristics of bridges and culverts and their watersheds could adversely affect project schedules and budgets. Factors that are critical to evaluate and incorporate into overall assessments of project risk include basin, land-use, and climatic characteristics; vulnerability to specific events, such as floods; and complicating factors in the watershed, such...

Note: this data release has been depecrated. Find the updated version here: https://doi.org/10.5066/P9FJCM8N. The Skykomish and Snoqualmie River basins in western Washington provide spawning, rearing, and migration habitat for several salmonid species, including Endangered Species Act-listed Chinook salmon, steelhead trout, and bull trout. The production, abundance, distribution, and the health of fish and other aquatic life is strongly influenced by water temperature, which affects their physiology and behavior. The Washington State Department of Ecology establishes water temperature criteria and Total Maximum Daily Load standards for designated aquatic life uses, varying between 12 and 17.5 degrees Celsius, depending...
