This data set presents attributes of floodplain ecosystem characteristics including floodplain soil denitrification, floodplain soil biogeochemistry, floodplain vegetation, floodplain sedimentation, floodplain and channel morphometry, stream discharge and water quality, floodplain climate, floodplain physiographic region, and catchment land cover. Attributes are associated with 18 floodplains of the Chesapeake Bay watershed. For many of these attributes, mean values are summaries of multiple measurements made within each floodplain site.

Summary 1. Historically, biogeographic barriers to the movement of aquatic organisms existed at multiple spatial scales and contributed to the development of unique regional faunas. At increasing spatial scales, these barriers consisted of waterfalls and cascades; catchment divides; major mountain ranges and oceans. We quantified annual sediment deposition, bank erosion, and sediment budgets in nine riverine wetlands that represented a watershed continuum for 1 year in the unregulated Yampa River drainage basin in Colorado. One site was studied for 2 years to compare responses to peak flow variability. Annual mean sediment deposition ranged from 0.01 kg/m(2) along a first-order subalpine stream to 21.8 kg/m(2) at a sixth-order alluvial forest. Nutrient and suspended-sediment loads and changes in loads were determined by applying a weighted regression approach called WRTDS (Weighted Regression on Time, Discharge, and Season). The load results represent the total mass of nitrogen, phosphorus, and suspended sediment that was exported from each of the RIM watersheds.

This data set portrays the linear federally-owned land features (i.e., national parkways, wild and scenic rivers, etc.) of the Lake Michigan basin. The data set was created by extracting linear federal land features from the 1:2,000,000-scale individual State DLG files produced by the U.S. Geological Survey. These files were then merged into a single coverage. This is a revised version of the April 2000 data set.
This assessment presents GIS data containing results of all freshwater assessment analyses conducted by The Nature Conservancy for Washington State. This data set includes values for biodiversity metrics (e.g. suitability, threat, number of species) across all HUC6 watersheds in Washington State, as well as identifies rivers, watersheds, and wetlands that provide the best opportunities for conservation of Washington's native freshwater species and ecological systems. This file is an updated version of 'nfhap_hci_hawaii.shp' and incorporates the suggestion from the Hawaii Fish Habitat Partnership of removing trails and paths from the road network to help better represent amounts of disturbance in remote areas such as the Na Pali coast. Subindices are summarized for local and network catchments specific to perennial stream reaches throughout the state. The National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) is a feature-based database that interconnects and uniquely identifies the stream segments or reaches that make up the nation's surface water drainage system.
