This dataset combines the sensitive soils datasets for the Southern Rockies Landscape Conservation Cooperative, the projected future vegetation and the simulated historic potential natural vegetation, created using the MC2 dynamic global vegetation model. Colors represent unique combinations of vegetation change and the number of sensitive soil factors present in a given area.

This dataset represents the soils with high smectite (high activity clays) concentrations content in the North Pacific Landscape Conservation Cooperative.

This set of soils data consists of mineral depth, and three layers each of sand, clay, and rock fragment fractions. The soils data were obtained from Kern, using methodology from Kern (1995) with corrected inconsistencies and gap filling from NRCS (1994).

This file contains soil data for 3 depths (0-0.5 meters, 0.5-1.5 meters, and greater than 1.5 meters) for percent sand, clay, and rockiness for the entire globe at a half degree grid resolution. A single bulk density value and mineral depth are also provided for each gridcell. Bulk density values came from the the International Geosphere Biosphere Programme (IGBP). Mineral depth, clay, sand, and rockiness values came from the International Satellite Land Surface Climatology Project (ISLSCP).

This dataset covers the southern half of the Southern Rockies Landscape Conservation Cooperative. It was aggregated and converted to raster by Conservation Biology Institute as part of a soil vulnerability study funded in part by the Southern Rockies LCC. The soil data come from a digital soil survey, the most detailed level of soil geographic data developed by the National Cooperative Soil Survey. The information was prepared by digitizing maps, by compiling information onto a planimetric correct base and digitizing, or by revising digitized maps using remotely sensed and other information. This data set consists of georeferenced digital map data and computerized attribute data. The map data are in a soil survey...

Clay percentage was summarized from SSURGO and STATSGO tabular data, joined to source feature data from the NRCS, and then converted to an 800m raster using the cell center to assign the values. This data set is a digital soil survey and generally is the most detailed level of soil geographic data developed by the National Cooperative Soil Survey. The information was prepared by digitizing maps, by compiling information onto a planimetric correct base and digitizing, or by revising digitized maps using remotely sensed and other information. This data set consists of georeferenced digital map data and computerized attribute data. The map data are in a soil survey area extent format and include a detailed, field verified...

This dataset represents the soil temperature regimes from SSURGO and STATSGO soil descriptions for soil map units in the state of northern California that lie within the North Pacific Landscape Conservation Cooperative. Definition.—“Soil temperature” is the mean monthly soil temperature at the specified depth (the average of the daily high and daily low temperature for the month). Significance.—Soil temperature is important to many biological and physical processes that occur in the soil. Plant germination and growth are closely related to soil temperature. Cold soil temperatures effectively create a thermal pan in the soil. Roots cannot uptake moisture or nutrients below the threshold temperatures specific to...

The information was prepared by digitizing maps, by compiling information onto a planimetric correct base and digitizing, or by revising digitized maps using remotely sensed and other information. This data set consists of georeferenced digital map data and computerized attribute data. The map data are in a soil survey area extent format and include a detailed, field verified inventory of soils and miscellaneous areas that normally occur in a repeatable pattern on the landscape and that can be cartographically shown at the scale mapped. A special soil features...

Karst systems are useful for examining spatial and temporal variability in Critical Zone processes because they provide a window into the subsurface where waters have interacted with vegetation, soils, regolith, and bedrock across a range of length and time scales. The majority of Critical Zone research has emphasized silicate lithologies, which are typified by relatively slow rates of reactivity and incongruent weathering. However, weathering of carbonate dominated lithology can result in secondary mineral deposits, such as speleothems, which provide a long-term archive for Critical Zone processes. Examination of carbon isotope variability in speleothems has the potential to provide records of changes in vegetation,...

Winter climate change has the potential to have a large impact on coastal wetlands in the southeastern U.S. Warmer winter temperatures and reductions in the intensity of freeze events would likely lead to mangrove forest range expansion and salt marsh displacement in parts of the U.S. Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic coast. The objective of this research was to better understand some of the ecological implications of mangrove forest migration and salt marsh displacement. The potential ecological effects of mangrove migration are diverse ranging from important biotic impacts (e.g., coastal fisheries, land bird migration; colonial nesting wading birds) to ecosystem stability (e.g., response to sea level rise and drought;...

These data are comprised of measurements of aluminum, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc, arsenic, selenium, molybdenum, silver, cadmium, thallium, lead, bismuth, thorium, uranium, and mercury in soil, vegetation, and small rodents. Gross alpha activity, gross beta activity, and radionuclide activities (isotopic U, isotopic Th) are also presented for vegetation and soil. Radioactivities for small rodents were previously presented at https://doi.org/10.5066/P9HARTQ4. Samples were collected at the Kanab North Mine (post-mining, pre-reclamation) in the Grand Canyon watershed.
