Digital flood-inundation maps for an 8.8-mile reach of the North Platte River, from 1.5 miles upstream of the Highway 92 bridge to 3 miles downstream of the Highway 71 bridge, were created by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the Cities of Scottsbluff and Gering. The flood-inundation maps, which can be accessed through the USGS Flood Inundation Mapping Science website at http://water.usgs.gov/osw/flood_inundation/, depict estimates of the areal extent and depth of flooding corresponding to selected water levels (stages) at the USGS streamgage on the Platte River at Scottsbluff, Nebr. (station 06680500). Near-real-time stages at this streamgage may be obtained on the Internet from the USGS National...

This dataset contains input parameter and data files, as well as output files for simulations before calibration (pre-calibration) and after calibration (post-calibration) of solar radiation and potential evapotranspiration (ET) parameters. Simulated solar radiation and potential ET for nine near-native subbasins and three selected subareas [16, 71, 124] are included for parts of the Upper Rio Grande Basin in Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, and northern Mexico using the Precipitation-Runoff Modeling System (PRMS). Input data include pre-calibration input parameters for the entire Upper Rio Grande Basin developed from the National Hydrologic Model (NHM) parameter database, and model parameters after calibration (post-calibration)...
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Puerto Rico Environmental Quality Board, has compiled a series of geospatial datasets for Puerto Rico to be implemented into the USGS StreamStats application (https://streamstats.usgs.gov/ss/). These geospatial datasets, along with basin characteristics datasets for Puerto Rico published as a separate USGS data release (https://doi.org/10.5066/P9HK9SSQ), were used to delineate watersheds and develop the peak-flow and low-flow regression equations used by StreamStats. The geospatial dataset described herein are the flow direction rasters at a 10-m resolution, which indicates the direction in which water is predicted to flow out of a given pixel (8 compass...

This dataset contains projected climate data (precipitation, maximum temperature, minimum temperature) from 27 climate scenarios used as input to the Precipitation-Runoff Modeling System (PRMS), and baseline PRMS simulated streamflow at 63 sites in the Upper Rio Grande Basin under each of the 27 scenarios. Projected climate data, obtained from the USGS South Central Climate Adaptation Science Center (Wooten, 2020), were generated using three general circulation models, run under three emission scenarios (RCP 2.6, RCP 4.5, RCP 8.5), and downscaled using three different methods (delta SD, equidistant quantile mapping, piecewise asynchronous regression). Together, the three models, RCPs, and downscaling methods resulted...

Discrete volumetric and mid-section stream discharge measurements were conducted from July through October 2020 in H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest near Blue River, OR. The measured streams are part of the Lookout Creek basin, draining into Blue River and subsequently the McKenzie River on the west slope of the Cascade Range. ORWSC Streamflow measurements supplemented an eco-drought low-flow modeling project in partnership with the Forest and Rangeland Ecosystem Science Center (FRESC) and the USGS Water Mission Area (WMA). Measurements were collected at 25 selected sites with co-located HOBO data loggers and 7 miscellaneous (MISC) sites with no data loggers present. HOBO logger data were collected and processed...
This item contains data and code used in experiments that produced the results for Sadler et. al (2022) (see below for full reference). We ran five experiments for the analysis, Experiment A, Experiment B, Experiment C, Experiment D, and Experiment AuxIn. Experiment A tested multi-task learning for predicting streamflow with 25 years of training data and using a different model for each of 101 sites. Experiment B tested multi-task learning for predicting streamflow with 25 years of training data and using a single model for all 101 sites. Experiment C tested multi-task learning for predicting streamflow with just 2 years of training data. Experiment D tested multi-task learning for predicting water temperature with...

This child page contains the requisite folder structure along with model input and output data used in the model validation process for two Hydrologic Engineering Center Hydrologic Modeling System (HEC-HMS) models during the validation period of the study detailed in the associated Scientific Investigations Report "Comparison of Storm Runoff Models for a Small Watershed in an Urban Metropolitan Area, Albuquerque, New Mexico" (Shephard and Douglas-Mankin, 2020). One model uses a curve-number (CN) based loss method approach, and the other model uses an initial and constant (IC) infiltration rate loss method. Each model was used to simulate storm runoff in the Hahn Arroyo Watershed, an urbanized watershed with concrete...

This data release contains a comma-delimited ascii file of three same-day, discrete discharge measurements made at sites along selected reaches of Honomū Stream, Hawai'i on August 11, 2020. These discrete discharge measurements form what is commonly referred to as a “seepage run.” The intent of the seepage run is to quantify the spatial distribution of streamflow along the reach during fair-weather, low-flow conditions, generally characterized by negligible direct runoff within the reach. The measurements can be used to characterize the net seepage of water into (water gain) or out of (water loss) the stream channel between measurement sites provided that the measurements were made during stable, nonchanging flow...

This metadata record describes 99 streamflow (referred to as flow) metrics calculated using the observed flow records at 1851 streamflow gauges across the conterminous United States from 1950 to 2018. Calculation of these metrics are often used as dependent variables in statistical models to make predictions of these flow metrics at ungaged locations. Specifically, this record describes (1) the U.S. Geological Survey streamgauge identification number, (2) the 1-, 7-, and 30-day consecutive minimum flow normalized by drainage area, DA (Q1/DA, Q7/DA, and Q30/DA [cfs/sq km]), (3) the 1st, 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th, 90th, and 99th nonexceedence flows normalized by DA (P01/DA, P10/DA, P25/DA, P50/DA, P75/DA, P90/DA, P99/DA...

This dataset includes inputs and results for parameterizing the USGS Thornthwaite Monthly Water Balance Model (MWBM) to simulate annual stream permanence on National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) stream reaches. Also included are results from sensitivity analysis of MWBM parameters to final stream permanence classification (permanent or nonpermanent). The dataset includes files that link PRISM climate grids to NHD catchments and flowlines. Data tables describe the sensitivity of MWBM stream permanence classifications to each of the altered MWBM parameters. Suitable MWBM parameter sets, which resulted in accuracy of at least 65% when compared to observed surface water conditions, for modeling stream permanence are presented...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Bureau of Land Management, used streamflow measurements at 11 partial-record sites and related them to nearby USGS or Idaho Power Company real-time streamgages (index sites) to provide daily mean streamflow values at ungaged (partial-record) sites within the Wild and Scenic River of the Owyhee Canyonlands Wilderness, Idaho. Daily mean streamflow was estimated by developing a regression relationship between streamflow at each partial-record site and the index site for the period of record of the index site. The regressions are then used to estimate annual and semimonthly 20-, 50-, and 80-percent exceedance probability streamflow statistics at each partial-record...
