The Imiq Hydroclimate Database houses hydrologic, climatologic, and soils data collected in Alaska and Western Canada from the early 1900s to the present. This database unifies and preserves numerous data collections that have, until now, been stored in field notebooks, on desktop computers, as well as in disparate databases. Synthesizing and analyzing the large-scale hydroclimate characteristics of this important climatic region have been made easier with this searchable database. The data, originally collected in a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 relational database, has been migrated to an open source PostgreSQL and PostGIS environment. The Imiq Data Portal provides public access to portions of the Imiq Hydroclimate...

The Terrestrial Environmental Observation Network (TEON) is intended to meet the need for a sustainable environmental observing network for northern Alaska. The TEON plan proposes collection of a time series of specific environmental variables in seven representative watersheds across northern Alaska. The Kuparuk River watershed is central to this plan both because of its location that bisects Alaska’s North Slope and its record of hydroclimatic data and research now surpassing 30-yrs. Nested catchments within and adjacent to this sentinel Arctic river system integrate climate and landscape responses from the Brooks Range foothills (Imnavait Creek and Upper Kuparuk River) to the Arctic Coastal Plain (Putuligayuk...

This dataset features suitable habitat at discharges from 15,000 cfs to 100,000 cfs. The spatial extent for floodplain inundation modeling in the lower Trinity River was from Romayor, Texas, to approximately Moss Bluff, Texas. River sections were modeled using steady flow conditions. For the upper section, discharge and stage were both available for the two gages (Romayor USGS 08066500 and Liberty USGS 08067000). For the lower section, the Moss Bluff gage (USGS 08067100) is tidally-influenced, so gage height didn’t correspond to upstream changes in discharge. Depth rasters were exported from HEC-RAS 5.0.0. Since the lower section had large over- and underestimates, depth values were sampled along the intersection...

The mottled duck, a focal species for the Gulf Coast Prairie Landscape Conservation Cooperative, is one of only a few duck species adapted to breeding in southern marshes. A major part of its population spends its entire life cycle within a relatively small coastal area in eastern Texas and western Louisiana. This is a thriving part of the Mississippi and Central Flyways, two of four major waterfowl migration routes in North America. In recent years, the mottled duck’s habitat and surrounding areas have been compromised by urbanization, agricultural development, and changes to the area’s hydrology affecting coastal wetlands. The latter threat includes the ramifications of climate change, such as sea level rise and...

Map of the Upper Koyukuk River Area and location of proposed observation sites (numbered circles). This large area drains the southern Brooks Range ecoregion and extends downstream into the Kobuk Ridges and Valleys outside of the Arctic LCC boundary. Compared to other sites in TEON, these rivers are larger basins and reflect higher relief landscapes. Inset shows the location of the seven TEON focal watersheds. Image by Arctic LCC staff.

This community catalog serves the USGS Pennsylvania Water Science Center. The Water Science Center's mission is to collect, analyze and disseminate the impartial hydrologic data and information needed to wisely manage water resources for the people of the United States and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In Pennsylvania, the USGS's water-resources roots date back to the late 1800's, with the initiation of streamflow gaging on the Delaware and Susquehanna Rivers and the evaluation of groundwater resources in various parts of the Commonwealth. Today, the Pennsylvania Water Science Center's cadre of nearly 80 scientists, technicians, and support staff in New Cumberland, Exton, Pittsburgh, and Williamsport work in...

As part of the Triangle Area Water Supply Monitoring Project, the U.S. Geological Survey conducted a study to evaluate the occurrence and distribution of phytoplankton, taste-and-odor compounds, and cyanotoxin occurrence in four water-supply reservoirs in the Triangle area of North Carolina. This data release contains the associated data described in the Scientific Investigations Report, "Phytoplankton, Taste-and-Odor Compounds, and Cyanotoxin Occurrence in Drinking Water Supply Reservoirs in the Triangle Area of North Carolina". Surface-water samples were collected four times between April and October 2014 at five study sites for laboratory analysis of nutrients, chlorophyll a, major ions, metals, taste and odor...

Water-quality samples were collected at 49 surface water sites covering a range of land uses across the state of Iowa starting the summer of 2022 and continuing into the spring of 2023 by staff from the U.S. Geological Survey Central Midwest Water Science Center. Samples were submitted to the National Water Quality Laboratory in Denver, Colorado, and were analyzed for 32 per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. Additional samples for N-(1,3-Dimethylbutyl)-N’-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine (6PPD) and 6PPD-Quinone were sent from a subset of the sites to the Organic Geochemistry Research Laboratory in Lawrence, Kansas.

Due to the quantity and complexity of the data, wetlands and riparian data only displays at 1:250,000 scale and greater. For wetland information visit www.fws.gov/wetlands/The original wetland maps were produced as topical overlays using U.S. Geological Survey topographic maps as the base. Thus, the data are intended for use in publications, at a scale of 1:24,000 or smaller. Due to the scale, the primary intended use is for regional and watershed data display and analysis, rather than specific project data analysis. The wetlands data were neither designed nor intended to represent legal or regulatory products. These data were developed in conjunction with the Cowardin et al. publication (Cowardin, L.M., V. Carter,...

This paper presents a method for determining the causes of salinization of surface waters, in this case the upper Colorado River and its tributaries in Texas. The analysis, which includes a combination of statistical analysis and graphical methods, indicates that among the sources of salt (e.g., saline ground water discharge into surface waters and storm runoff, both surface and shallow subsurface, and washing minerals into surface waters) the major contributor is saline ground water, which discharges into the river and streams. Data also points to salt plume intrusion into the river and streams from sources of salt in the aquifers. Published in Journal of the American Water Resources Association, volume 36, issue...

This data release consists of three geophysical data sets measured in the lower Guadalupe River channel, south-central Texas, and one supplementary geophysical data set measured in a laboratory. The lower Guadalupe River is incised into the outcrop of the Carrizo-Wilcox aquifer in south-central Texas. The river and the aquifer are hydraulically connected across the outcrop, although the connectivity is obscured by alluvium and surface-water and groundwater exchange dynamics are currently poorly understood. The data sets were therefore produced to investigate surface-water and groundwater exchange dynamics between the lower Guadalupe River and the Carrizo-Wilcox aquifer, and consist of (1) a 14.86 kilometer (km)...

This data set represents the extent, approximate location and type of wetlands and deepwater habitats in Arizona. These data delineate the areal extent of wetlands and surface waters as defined by Cowardin et al. (1979). Certain wetland habitats are excluded from the National mapping program because of the limitations of aerial imagery as the primary data source used to detect wetlands. These habitats include seagrasses or submerged aquatic vegetation that are found in the intertidal and subtidal zones of estuaries and near shore coastal waters. Some deepwater reef communities (coral or tuberficid worm reefs) have also been excluded from the inventory. These habitats, because of their depth, go undetected by aerial...
The files contained on this site are for use with the National Hydrologic Model (NHM) for the Precipitation Runoff Modeling System (PRMS), developed by the Modeling of Watershed Systems (MoWS) group of the U.S. Geological Survey. PRMS is a daily deterministic watershed-scale model (Markstrom and others, 2015), and can be used at a conterminous United States (CONUS) extent with on the Geospatial Fabric (Viger and Bock, 2014) in the NHM infrastructure (Regan and others, 2018). The NHM-PRMS is the sum of three parts: the source code, parameter values, geospatial fabric (Regan and others, in press). These components are used to generate the simlation output files. Child items of this page include all or parts of these...
