ADCP data were collected on November 4, 2015 at the confluence of the Illinois River and Fox River near Ottawa, IL using a Teledyne Rio Grande 1200 kHz Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler with integrated Trimble Ag162 GPS. ADCP data was collected in reciprocal pairs along cross-sections. The data are provided in: (1) a zipped folder containing classic ascii output files exported from WinRiverII software, and a README text file indicating which files are reciprocal pairs (2) a zipped folder containing KML files for each transect.

This data release contains monthly 270-meter resolution Basin Characterization Model (BCMv8) climate and hydrologic variables for Localized Constructed Analog (LOCA; Pierce et al., 2014)-downscaled Global Climate Models (GCMs) for Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) 4.5 (medium-low emissions) and 8.5 (high emissions) for hydrologic California. The 20 future climate scenarios consist of ten GCMs with RCP 4.5 and 8.5 each: ACCESS 1.0, CanESM2, CCSM4, CESM1-BGC, CMCC-CMS, CNRM-CM5, GFDL-CM3, HadGEM2-CC, HadGEM2-ES, and MIROC5. The LOCA climate scenarios span water years 1950 to 2099 with greenhouse-gas forcings beginning in 2006. The LOCA downscaling method has been shown to produce better estimates of extreme...

In August 2015, water velocities around a fully-loaded commercial barge tow were measured as the barge tow traveled upstream through the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal from a starting position in Lockport Pool, and passed through the Electric Dispersal Barrier System at river mile (RM) 296 near Romeoville, IL. Velocity measurements were made in and alongside the gap formed by the junction between the boxed stern of a rake hopper barge and the raked bow of a rake tanker barge (herein referred to as the rake-to-box junction gap) using two SonTek Argonaut SW 3kHz acoustic Doppler velocity meters (ADVM). One ADVM was mounted 0.091 meters below the water surface, facing downward in the center of the rake-to-box junction...
The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), collected cross-section data on the upstream and downstream sides at selected bridges in Montana during the 2020 calendar year. The purpose of the data collection is to determine if scour and channel instability occur in the vicinity of the bridge structures. Data were processed, analyzed, and compiled for scour monitoring, facilitating better understanding, documentation, and prediction of scour processes.

ADCP data were collected on July 31-August 1, 2013 in the Dresden Island Pool on the Des Plaines River using a Teledyne Rio Grande 1200 kHz Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler with integrated Trimble Ag162 GPS. On July 31-August 1, 2013 the Des Plaines River discharge also was approximately 2,000-3,000 cfs. ADCP data was collected in reciprocal pairs along cross-sections and along roughly streamwise oriented lines between cross-sections. The data are provided in: (1) a zipped folder containing classic ascii output files exported from WinRiverII software, and a README text file indicating which files are reciprocal pairs, and which files are streamwise oriented lines (2) a zipped folder containing KML files for each...

The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is evaluating the placement of dredged material in the nearshore areas of Lake Michigan as a means to replenish sand at selected beaches. In order to elucidate the physical processes in the nearshore environment that transport and distribute sand to the beach, the USACE-Chicago District and the US Geological Survey (USGS) developed a plan for a beach nourishment study on Lake Michigan near Burns Harbor/Ogden Dunes, Indiana. In support of this effort, the USGS deployed an upward-profiling acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) to the Burns Harbor/Ogden Dunes study area to collect wave and current data. The ADCP was located at the following World Geodetic System 1984 (WGS84)...

This dataset describes the quantity and morphology of floating microplastics in 29 Great Lakes tributaries in 6 states. Samples were collected in spring 2014 – spring 2015. Each tributary was sampled three to four times, capturing low-flow and runoff-event conditions. Sampling and analysis methods are described in the .xml metadata file. These data are interpreted in a journal article: Baldwin, A.K., Corsi, S.R., and Mason, S.A., 2016, Plastic debris in 29 Great Lakes tributaries: Relations to watershed attributes and hydrology: Environmental Science and Technology, v. 50, no. 19, p. 10377–10385, doi:10.1021/acs.est.6b02917.

ADCP data were collected on May 22, 2015 immediately downstream of Starved Rock Lock and Dam near Utica, IL.The data were collected as reciprocal pairs of measurements at cross-sections, and as longitudinal lines roughly along the centerline of the channel. The data are provided in: (1) a zipped folder containing classic ascii output files exported from WinRiverII software, and a README text file indicating which files are reciprocal pairs (2) a zipped folder containing KML files for each transect.

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release contains the code, data, executables, and other information necessary to run the application Unit Flows in Networks of Channels (UFINCH). The UFINCH application is a computer code that utilizes the geospatial stream connectivity and catchment geometry described in National Hydrography Dataset Plus value added attributes (NHDPlus Version 2) to simulate unit (15-minute) flows in networks of channels, generally by use of daily flows at the most downstream stream segment in a basin at which a USGS streamgage is located. Preliminary testing indicates that UFINCH may be most applicable for simulating unregulated, non-estuarial, flows in basins as large as 3,000 square miles...

This dataset describes storm event loads (sediment and total particulate phosphorus), hydrologic metrics, and precipitation characteristics for storm events occurring between 2010-2012. Loads were estimated for four watersheds included in a paired watershed study; a forested reference watershed and three urban watersheds with centralized or decentralized stormwater management in Clarksburg, Maryland USA or Fairfax County, Virginia USA. Storm event loads were estimated from surrogate relations between turbidity and the water quality parameter of interest. Hydrologic metrics were determined for each storm event using the USGS stream gage instantaneous discharge record for each watershed. Precipitation event characteristics...
Water velocities were measured in the Illinois and Des Plaines Rivers using a Teledyne Rio Grande 1200 kHz acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP). ADCP data were collected in reciprocal pairs along cross-sections and along approximately streamwise-oriented lines between cross sections at the following locations: (1) the confluence of the Fox River and the Illinois River near Ottawa, IL on November 4, 2015 (2) immediately downstream of Starved Rock Lock and Dam on the Illinois River near Utica, IL on May 22, 2015 (3) the Dresden Island Pool of the Des Plaines River on July 31 – August 1, 2013 (4) the Marseilles Pool of the Illinois River on May 14-15, 2013 and May 28, 2013 The WinRiverII ASCII output file and...
