From August 2018 to October 2019, the U.S. Geological Survey collected spatially high-resolution water quality data as part of five shoreline synoptic surveys around the perimeters of Owasco, Seneca, and Skaneateles Lakes within the Finger Lakes Region of New York. Water-quality data were collected just below water surface utilizing YSI EXO2 multiparameter sondes and portable nitrate sensors paired with real-time GPS data as part of a HABs monitoring program in the Finger Lakes. In October 2019, water-quality data collection was paired with discrete phytoplankton grab samples on Owasco Lake and Seneca Lake. Phytoplankton grab samples were collected just below water surface with a peristaltic pump at twelve locations...

This section of the data release supports the data used in models for the associated publication. The U.S. Geological Survey and the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay collected hydrologic and water-quality data to assess the effectiveness of agricultural conservation management practice (CMP) implementation at Mainstem Plum Creek (USGS site ID: 04084911) and West Plum Creek (USGS site ID: 04084927) in northeastern Wisconsin. Monitoring data from 2010–2020 at Mainstem Plum and 2013–2020 at West Plum were used to detect changes in hydrologic and water-quality responses during runoff events. Runoff events were defined by hydrographers and used to compute event loads and event flow-weighted mean concentrations of...

The dataset contains model coefficients and statistics for the 488 regression models used to estimate streamwater constituent loads for 13 watersheds in Gwinnett County, Georgia for two calibration periods, water years 2003-2010 and 2010-2020. Model terms were selected from an 11-parameter equation, which was a function of discharge, base flow, season, turbidity, and time (trend), using a forward stepwise ordinary least squares regression approach. Model coefficients were fit using U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) LOADEST load estimation software. Models were fit both with and without turbidity explanatory variables for 12 water-quality constituents: total suspended solids, suspended sediment concentration, total nitrogen,...

Transects of near-surface continuous water-quality data and vertical profiles of the same parameters were collected over a 24-hour period from September 7 to September 8, 2023 in the Arthur Kill. The Arthur Kill is a tidal strait located between Staten Island, New York, and Union and Middlesex Counties, New Jersey, and connects Newark Bay to the north and Raritan Bay to the south. It is a major shipping channel for the Port of New York and New Jersey surrounded by industrial and highly developed land. Transects were collected using a Yellow Springs Instruments (YSI) EXO2 series water-quality sonde with a 5-second data collection interval while the boat was in motion. Vertical profiles of water-quality parameters...

Water and surficial sediment samples were collected once at 9 locations. A sediment core (33 cm long) was extracted from Las Vegas Bay to assess changes in microplastic deposition over time. Striped bass (Morone saxatilis), common carp (Cyprinus carpio), quagga mussels (Dreissena bugensis), and Asian clams (Corbicula fluminea) were sampled at a subset of locations to assess biological uptake of microplastics. Sampling and analysis methods are described in the Processing Steps section of the metadata. All samples were...

Nonstationary streamflow due to environmental and human-induced causes can affect water quality over time, yet these effects are poorly accounted for in water-quality trend models. This data release provides instream water-quality trends and estimates of two components of change, for sites across the Nation previously presented in Oelsner et al. (2017). We used previously calibrated Weighted Regressions on Time, Discharge, and Season (WRTDS) models published in De Cicco et al. (2017) to estimate instream water-quality trends and associated uncertainties with the generalized flow normalization procedure available in EGRET version 3.0 (Hirsch et al., 2018a) and EGRETci version 2.0 (Hirsch et al., 2018b). The procedure...
