This dataset comprises GPS location analyzed in Lamb et al. (2017): 165,562 deployed GPS locations, for 81 Eastern brown pelicans (25 in Florida, 27 in Louisiana, and 29 in Texas) tracked from 2013-04-24 to 2016-02-05. Funding for this study was provided by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management and U.S. Geological Survey (Interagency Agreement no. M12PG00014). The Eastern Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis carolinensis) is a large-bodied seabird that nests in colonies of 10 to upwards of 5,000 pairs, on nearshore barrier islands in subtropical and tropical North American waters. It breeds between March and August, laying 2–3 eggs and raising 1–2 chicks per year. The species is facultatively migratory during...
The dataset contains 3 components: (1) acceleration data logger (ADL) data, (2) GPS location data, and (3) body temperature data. We have ADL data from pythons in captivity (N = 2) and in free-ranging snakes (N=4). We have GPS data for 3 out of 4 free-ranging snakes. We have body temperature data for all 4 free-ranging snakes.

We used an automated radio telemetry network to track the movement of two nectivorous Hawaiian honeycreepers, the ʻapapane (Himatione sanguinea) and ʻiʻiwi (Drepanis coccinea), collecting high temporal and spatial resolution data across the annual cycle. We identify movement syndromes using a multivariate analysis of multiple movement metrics and assessed seasonal changes in movement behavior. Birds made long-distance flights, including multi-day forays outside the tracking array, but exhibited a high degree of fidelity to a core use area, even in the non-breeding period. Both species visited forests at elevations where avian malaria potentially occurs, although overall exhibited very little seasonal change in elevation...

The BioAcoustic Fish Fence (BAFF; Fish Guidance Systems Ltd.) is a multi-modal deterrent that utilizes a combination of lights, sound, and bubbles to guide fish away from a location. An experimental deployment of a BAFF is currently ongoing at Barkley Lock and Dam on the Cumberland River near Grand Rivers, KY. This dataset includes information derived from two telemetry arrays (i.e., VEMCO and HTI) deployed in the vicinity of Barkley Lock and Dam to evaluate fish movement and response to the BAFF. Silver carp, grass carp, and native fish species were detected with this system. Any use of trade, firm, or product names is for descriptive purposes only and does not imply endorsement by the U.S. Government.

The banding data provides a comprehensive list of where and when each of the 21 golden eagles were captured, tagged (all satellite-tagged, some also radio-tagged) and deployed. The banding data is organized into a spreadsheet (Banding_Records.csv) that provides basic information on each bird as well as any notes about recaptures or deaths. The Capture_Sheets.pdf is a supplemental document that provides more detailed biological and spatiotemporal information about 15 of the tagged individuals. Individual golden eagles can be identified across the three datasets with their unique and consistent PTT numbers.

The satellite data consist of 9,253 estimated locations of 21 golden eagles (Aquila chrysaetos) that were satellite-tagged in either east-central Idaho (Salmon, Idaho) or southwestern Idaho (Snake River National Conservation Area) and tracked between 1993 and 1997 via the Argos satellite system. The raw eagle tracking data provided by Argos were filtered one time using a version of the Douglas Argos-Filter Algorithm and converted into XLS spreadsheet form. This preservation project preserved the geospatial and satellite information from the XLS spreadsheet and released it in shapefile format (Satellite_Data.shp) and CSV format (Satellite_Data.csv). Each tagged bird in this dataset has a unique PTT number that is...

Of the 21 golden eagles satellite-tagged in Salmon, Idaho and Snake River National Conservation Area, 10 were also radio-tagged with tail-mounted very high frequency (VHF) transmitters to allow for behavioral observations between 1993 and 1994. The observed data were originally processed as a DIF file. The Data at Risk preservation project transformed the original DIF file data into CSV format and created a shapefile from the geospatial points. The observed data shapefile (Observed_Data.shp) provides the 682 estimated locations of the golden eagles and all behavioral observations taken in the field. The information provided in the Observed dataset can be related to the other two datasets via each bird’s unique PTT...

Long-term environmental management to prevent waterfowl population declines is informed by ecology, movement behavior and habitat use patterns. Extrinsic factors such as human-induced disturbance can cause behavioral changes which may influence movement, and resource needs, driving variation that affects management efficacy. To better understand the relationship between human-based disturbance and animal movement and habitat use, and their potential effects on management, we GPS tracked 15 dabbling ducks in California over about 4-weeks before, during and after the start of a recreational hunting season in October and November 2018. We recorded locations at 2-minute intervals across three separate 24-hour tracking...
In this data set, records (rows) represent GPS locations of ducks marked with telemetry in California and whether locations were overlapping (within 300 m of) locations of marked ducks in other consecutive years (2015-16, 2016-17, and 2017-18) during October - March. Years 2015-16, 2016-17, and 2017-18 represented drought, non-drought, and non-drought, respectively. Matchett and company (2020; see Larger Work section for citation) summarized this data set in tables E3 and E4 to compare overlap of duck locations between consecutive years to investigate interannual habitat stability in relationship with drought, habitat management (daytime roosts and night feeding sites), and in two regions (Suisun Marsh and California...

Zoonotic diseases are of considerable concern to the human population and viruses such as avian influenza (AIV) threaten food security, wildlife conservation and human health. Wild waterfowl and the natural wetlands they use, are known AIV reservoirs, with birds capable of virus transmission to domestic poultry populations. While infection risk models have linked migration routes and AIV outbreaks, there is a limited understanding of wild waterfowl presence on commercial livestock facilities, and movement patterns linked to natural wetlands. In this dataset, records (rows) represent all analyzed locations of individual waterfowl relative to locations of commercial livestock facilities and habitats. Each row has...
