These data show triangulated results from Vemco Positioning Systems (VPS; https://vemco.com/products/vps/) set in Yellowstone Lake, WY. The data consist of transmissions from acoustic transmitters placed in fish to 69 kHz receivers. Field data were sent to Vemco for processing (proprietary software) and processed to determine the triangluated results shared within this data set. The data provided show triangulated positions of Lake Trout within suspected spawaning locations in Yellowstone Lake. Any use of trade, firm, or product names is for descriptive purposes only and does not imply endorsement by the U.S. Government.

The Pacific walrus (Odobenus rosmarus divergens) feeds on benthic invertebrates on the continental shelf of the Chukchi and Bering seas and rests on sea ice between foraging trips. With climate warming, ice-free periods in the Chukchi Sea have increased and are projected to increase in frequency and duration. We radio-tracked walruses to estimate areas of walrus foraging and occupancy in the Chukchi Sea during June–November of 2008–2011, years when sea ice was sparse over the continental shelf. This dataset comprises reference data for each individual bird included in Lamb et al. (2017). Reference data include, but are not limited to, colony name, nest coordinates, nest content, culmen size, tag manufacturer, etc. Funding for this study was provided by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management and U.S. Geological Survey (Interagency Agreement no. This dataset includes information derived from a Vemco telemetry array located at Lock and Dam 15 on the Mississippi River near Rock Island, IL and a longitudinal telemetry array that ranges from Pool 14 to Pool 19. Silver carp, bighead carp, and paddlefish were detected with this system. Lock Queue Reports, which detail the daily lock operation for river traffic, were obtained from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Temperature data were recorded on the Vemco receivers and stage height data were obtained from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Acoustic telemetry is a popular tool for the study of fish spatial ecology. In acoustic telemetry, fish are captured, surgically implanted with an acoustic transmitter or ‘tag’, and then released back into the environment. Networks of autonomous, stationary receivers then are used to track the movements of tagged individuals over long periods of time (> 1 year). Each acoustic receiver records the date, time, and unique transmitter code (or ID) for each acoustic tag detection. The Hawaiian hoary bat (Lasiurus cinereus semotus), a federally and state listed endangered subspecies, is the only extant native terrestrial mammal in the Hawaiian archipelago. It is an insectivorous, solitary and foliage-roosting species that generally roosts alone or in mother-pup family groups. A total of 58 bats (17 female; 41 male; 56 adult; 2 juvenile) were captured at multiple locations on the east side of Hawaii Island from May 2018 through September 2019. Radio transmitters were affixed to 56 bats including two individuals that were recaptured and radio-tagged twice. This dataset contains the capture histories for juvenile green (Chelonia mydas) and hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata) sea turtles tagged with an acoustic telemetry tag between 2012 and 2017. It contains information on how many days had passed since the tag was attached and whether or not the tag was still attached upon recapture. This dataset thus allows estimation of acoustic tag retention rates for these two species of sea turtle in our study site at Buck Island Reef National Monument (BIRNM), St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI).

The role of lynx dispersal in maintaining their populations at the landscape scale is unclear. A large proportion of local lynx populations are known to disperse following a snowshoe hare population crash, but whether these dispersal events contribute to the cyclic dynamics of neighboring populations is not well understood. If lynx dispersal does play an important role in lynx population dynamics then the conservation of dispersal corridors is critical to maintaining those dynamics. An acoustic telemetry receiver was mounted on a gliding robotic fish, a novel type of autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) during a series of field trials in a freshwater lake. Like underwater gliders, gliding robotic fish (dubbed GRACE, for Gliding-Robot-ACE) achieve locomotion primarily through buoyancy-driven gliding or spiraling. They are also equipped with an active tail fin that can provide extra propulsion (e.g., “swimming” against current), act as a rudder to improve steering during glide/spiral, and improve maneuverability via asymmetrical flapping (e.g., tight turns on the surface or during gliding). Hawaiian hoary bats ('ōpe'ape'a; Lasiurus semotus) were captured at 23 sites on Hawaiʻi Island from May 2018 through August 2021. Radio transmitters were affixed to captured bats and, when possible, radio telemetry was used to locate bats in trees or forest stands used for day-roosts. Repeated visits to confirm bat presence were conducted until radio-tagged bats were no longer detected. Of the total 148 captured bats we affixed 131 with radio transmitters and attempted to relocate 127 (38 female; 89 male; 120 adult; 7 juvenile) on subsequent days of tracking. These data, which support a USGS authored manuscript, describe how active and previous previous infection with avian influenza impacts the movement ecology of several wild waterfowl species that overwinter in California. Results varied by species and demonstrate that the relationships between avian influenza infection and wild bird movements are context- and species-dependent.

Capture, GPS-collar tagging, and release of cougars was conducted in northern Arizona and southern Utah and Nevada, USA, from 2003 to 2013 by the U.S. Geological Survey and the National Park Service (Northern Arizona University IACUC Protocol # 02-082-R4), resulting in GPS-tracking and monitoring of study animal activities. This data set includes six individuals that met three criteria: 1) few missing data (≥ 85% fix success rate), 2) long periods of continuous monitoring, with a minimum of 1000 observations, and 3) established home range with no evidence of dispersal. This data set is part of a data release as a companion to a manuscript titled "Foraging movements and colony attendance of least terns (Sternula antillarum) on the central Platte River". This data release includes three tabular digital data file representing movement patterns, behaviors, and foraging success of least terns that nested on sandpits near the Platte River during 2009 and 2010. Movement, behavior, and foraging data were collected at the sandpits where birds nested as well as on riverine sites.
We used Point Blue Conservation Science's dynamic open-water dataset of water distribution and our telemetry data for duck locations to develop frequently updated habitat maps for the Central Valley and Suisun Marsh in California during October-March of 2014-15 through 2017-18.
