A vented conductivity, temperature and depth sensor (CTD, InSitu Aqua Troll) was installed at site NR1 (N 47° 04’ 16.1”/W 122° 42’ 15.5”) and continuously measured water temperature, water depth, specific conductance, and salinity at 15-minute intervals from February 11, 2016 to July 18, 2016 (159 days). The sensor was replaced with a vented water-level logger (InSitu Level Troll) on July 19, 2016 and deployed until March 19, 2018 (608 days). The site is tidally influenced and located approximately 4.1 km upstream from the mouth of the Nisqually River and within the tidal prism. The elevation (NAVD88) of the top of the deployment pipe was surveyed by RTN-GPS. Tape-down measurements from the top of the pipe to the...

These data represent modeled stream temperatures for a portion of a larger dataset known as the Great Northern Landscape Conservation Cooperative (GNLCC) (https://www.fws.gov/science/catalog). This metadata record is a combined description for two spatial data feature types, vector lines and points, which cover the same geographic area. The line features are derived from NHDPlus (http://www.horizon-systems.com/NHDPlus/index.php) (USEPA and USGS, 2010) stream lines and the point data represent 1 km intervals along the NHDPlus stream network. Both datasets contain identical modeled stream temperature attributes. These modeled stream temperatures were generated as part of the U.S. Forest Service NorWeST stream temperature...
These data represent stream temperature observation locations for a portion of a larger study area known as the Great Northern Landscape Conservation Cooperative (GNLCC) https://www.fws.gov/science/catalog. These data were collected and processed as part of the NorWeST stream temperature project http://www.fs.fed.us/rm/boise/AWAE/projects/NorWeST.htmlThese thermograph locations and the attendant temperature observations were used as the baseline data for the NorWeST stream temperature modeling project. As a result, modeled temperatures will be most reliable in areas with the greatest density of thermographs. These data reside in ESRI shapefile format, ArcGIS version 9.3. The point shapefile extents correspond to...
A vented conductivity, temperature and depth sensor (CTD, InSitu Aqua Troll) was installed at site NR3 (N 47° 05’ 12”/W 122° 42’ 22”) and continuously measured water level, water temperature, specific conductance, and salinity at 15-minute intervals from February 12, 2016 to August 7, 2016 (177 days) and from October 7, 2016 to February 8, 2017 (124 days). This site is tidally influenced and located approximately 2.2 km upstream from the mouth of the Nisqually River. Elevation (NAVD88) of the deployment pipe was surveyed by RTN-GPS. Elevation of pipe plus distance to sensor is included in the offset. The offset needed to convert water depth to NAVD88 water surface elevation is -0.31 meters. . Water depth of the...

This dataset is a shapefile that contains the grid outlines and identifiers for the tiles produced by the TopoWx ("Topographical Weather/Climate") temperature dataset as applied to the USGS North Central Climate Center Domain and the surrounding area of Montana. The TopoWx dataset contains gridded daily temperature and is an interpolated spatio-temporaldataset in the same vein as the well-known PRISM (http://www.prism.oregonstate.edu) and Daymet products (http://daymet.ornl.gov). Daily Tmin and Tmax are provided at a 30-arcsec resolution (~800m) from 1948-2012 along with the latest 30-year monthly normals (1981-2010). The goals of the TopoWx project were to produce a dataset that: (1) incorporates key landscape-scale...
The Russian River Watershed (RRW) covers about 1,300 square miles (without Santa Rosa Plain) of urban, agricultural, and forested lands in northern Sonoma County and southern Mendocino County, California. Communities in the RRW depend on a combination of Russian River water and groundwater to meet their water-supply demands. Water is used primarily for agricultural irrigation, municipal and private wells supply, and commercial uses - such as for wineries and recreation. Annual rainfall in the RRW is highly variable, making it prone to droughts and flooding from atmospheric river events. In order to better understand surface-water and groundwater issues, the USGS is creating a Coupled Ground-Water and Surface-Water...

An upward-looking acoustic Doppler velocity meter (ADVM; Sontek XR, 1.5 MHz) was deployed in McAllister Creek at site MC2 (N 47° 05’ 43”/W 122° 43’ 38”) and continuously recorded water velocity, temperature and water level at 5-minute intervals from September 26, 2016 to October 14, 2016 (18 days), and at 15-minute intervals from December 2, 2016 to May 25, 2017 (174 days) except for the period of March 6 – 11, 2017 when the sensor was removed for maintenance and battery replacement. The site is tidally influenced and located approximately 0.7 km upstream from the mouth of McAllister Creek. The measurement averaging interval for the ADVM was 60 s. The blanking distance was set at 0.5 m and the cell end was set at...

MethodsStudy area: Our initial study area included the entire globe. We began with a seamless grid of cells with a resolution of 0.5 degrees (i.e., ~50 km at the equator). Next, we created polylines representing coastlines using SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission) v4.1 global digital elevation model data at a resolution of 250 m (Reuter et al. 2007). We used these coastline polylines to identify and retain cells that intersected the coast. We excluded 192,227 cells that did not intersect the coast. To avoid cells with minimal potential coastal wetland habitat, we used the coastline data to remove an additional 1,056 coastal cells that contained less than or equal to 5% coverage of land. We also removed 176...

This data release contains information to support water quality modeling in the Delaware River Basin (DRB). These data support both process-based and machine learning approaches to water quality modeling, including the prediction of stream temperature. This section provides spatial data files that describe the rivers, reservoirs, and observational data in the Delaware River Basin included in this release. One shapefile of polylines describes the 459 river reaches that define the modeling network, and another shapefile of polygons includes the three reservoirs (Pepacton, Cannonsville, and Neversink) for which data are included in this release. Additionally, a point shapefile contains locations of monitoring sites...

An upward-looking acoustic Doppler velocity meter (ADVM, SonTek SW, 3.0 MHz) located in a tidal channel of the Nisqually River Delta at site D2 (N 47d 05’ 37.2”/W 122d 42’ 56.4”) measured water level and current velocity at 15-minute intervals from February 16 to July 20, 2017 (104 of 154 days, accounting for missing periods). This site is in a tidal channel at a levee breach where flow is tidally influenced. The water depth of the sensor ranged from 0.04 to 4.63 m and may have been lower during periods of extreme low tide. The elevation (NAVD88) of the ADVM sensor was surveyed by RTN-GPS. The offset to convert all water depth time-series data to water surface elevation (NAVD88) is 0.06 meters. Instrument temperature...

These data are estimates of average daily minimum temperature, in degrees Fahrenheit, for the climatological period 1971-2000. In other words, each value represents the average of every daily low temperature over the 30 year period. Parameter-elevation Regressions on Independent Slopes Model (PRISM) derived raster data are the underlying data set from which the data were created. PRISM is an analytical model that uses point data and a digital elevation model (DEM) to generate gridded estimates of annual, monthly and event-based climatic parameters. For further information, the online PRISM homepage can be found at http://www.ocs.orst.edu/prism/. The data are available as an ESRI GridASCII export file, in latitude/longitude...
