These case study sites are detailed in the report accompanying this data layer. The case studies are intended to serve as examples of how some of the opportunities for diverse stakeholders to engage in the process of mitigating road impacts on wildlife that are described in the report might be applied on the ground, as well as other considerations that come into play in selecting sites for possible mitigation and designing mitigation solutions for those sites. Through these case studies, we illustrate potential opportunities for mitigation and partner engagement for each of the four alternative priority sets identified in this study.Wildlife carcasses recorded by Montana Department of Transportation, Idaho Department...

This dataset represents elevation for the Northern U.S. and Canada. This Digital Elevation Model (DEM) was created by mosaicing two datasets: 1. U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) 30 meter National Elevation Dataset (NED) , ~1 arc-second data that is updated over large areas by integrating the 10 meter or better source data (where available), re-sampled to 1 arc-second. 2. The Canadian Digital Elevation Data, Level 1 (CDED1) The Center of Topographic Information (CTI) jointly produces the CDED with federal, provincial, and territorial government agencies as well as the private sector. The CDED consists of an ordered array of ground or reflective surface elevations, recorded in meters, at regularly spaced intervals....

Wildlife carcasses recorded by Montana Department of Transportation, Idaho Department of Fish & Game, and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service were aggregated to the nearest mile marker for major roads of the U.S. Northern Rockies. WGA connectivity flowlines were intersected with the road network and attributed to the nearest mile marker, along with their connectivity ranking, which indicates their expected relative importance to maintaining westwide connectivity. Values for potential risk factors, including average annual daily traffic (AADT), functional class, number of lanes, road surface width, landscape condition of surrounding habitat, ruggedness of surrounding landscape, and topographic position relative to surrounding...

Under the direction of some of the leading American scientists of the 19th century, the United States Coast Survey (USCS) created exceptionally accurate and detailed maps of the country's coastline. These surveys (commonly referred to as "T-sheets") are the single most important data source for understanding the physical and ecological characteristics of the US shoreline prior to substantial Euro-American modification. Their depictions of coastal wetlands and estuaries prior to major development are valuable tools for coastal zone planning and estuary management and form an important foundation for more detailed investigations of historical extent and condition of coastal wetlands. Please visit http://www.caltsheets.org...
The LANDFIRE Data Distribution Site is the geospatial data gateway to search, browse, and download LANDFIRE data. The Data Distribution Site directs you to the LANDFIRE Viewer, where you can view the 30-meter resolution layers, metadata, and descriptions. This viewer provides assorted tools allowing the ability to interact and manipulate any data displayed within the viewer. Data extents are defined by dragging an extent or defining coordinates. All LANDFIRE data are free and available to everyone. The default download is an ESRI grid raster format with attributes and includes metadata in a zipped file. Options to specify different data formats and projections are available through the viewer's Modify Data Request...

Some species respond to environments directly related to altitudinal variation. Elevation (e.g., DEM) is easily implemented in spatial modeling by limiting the model to the minimum and maximum values explicitly stated in the literature. DEMs are utilized directly and are measured in meters above mean sea level. The elevation dataset was derived from the National Elevation Dataset, elevation units are reported in meters. For more information regarding the National Elevation Dataset, see http://ned.usgs.gov/. This is a continuous data layer. These data are divided into 6 regions across the US (Northwest, Southwest, Great Plains, Upper Midwest, Southeast, and Northeast). If you want complete coverage of the entire...

This dataset represents a shaded relief, or hillshade, for the Northern U.S. and Canada. This shaded relief raster was created from a 30 meter Digital Elevation Model (DEM) using the ArcMap geoprocessing tool “hillshade”. The DEM consists of two mosaiced datasets: 1. U.S. Geological Survey’s (USGS) 30 meter National Elevation Dataset (NED) , ~1 arc-second data that is updated over large areas by integrating the 10 meter or better source data(where available), re-sampled to 1 arc-second. 2.
